“Nah, There’s No Mainstream Media Bias” Watch: The NYT Isn’t Even Pretending Any More

I’m kind of ticked off: Ann Althouse mocked many of the same unethical items in the Sunday Times front page this morning that I noticed immediately, but Ann gets up earlier on Sundays than I do.

The Times has this:

If you bother to read the article, a “60 Minutes” interview apparently is the one that the Times thinks isn’t “friendly.” Anyone who believes that didn’t watch the Vice-Presidential debate. CBS is a card-carrying member of the Axis; not only that, but interviews on that show are edited before they air. Does the Times really expect us to believe that one of Harris’s attacks of Authentic Frontier gibberish won’t end up on the cutting room floor? As for the others: “The View”? “The View?”The  biased, race-baiting progressive ignoramuses on the dumbest new show on television (Remember: Sonny Hostin, the one lawyer on the show, implied that the eclipse was proof of climate change  doesn’t interview Democrats, they fawn over them. The ladies recenly let Biden lie almost non-stop in his “historic” appearance, and when he boasted about the “Violence Against Women Act,” nobody asked him about the rape accusation against him by a former Senate staffer—that would have been “unfriendly.” Colbert uses political guests, all Democrats, to set up Trump-bashing, his obsession.

Choosing Stern for a “friendly interview” is wildly hypocritical and desperate for an alleged feminist. Stern made his career by denigrating women, and he is another announced foe of Donald Trump.

Then we have this embarrassing op-ed by another biased historian who has abandoned reason for wokeness and Trump Derangement. He is kind enough to include a signature significance line that tells anyone paying attention, “Yes, I am just another Axis Big Lie wielding hack.” That would be this familiar garbage: “This new Lost Cause also holds that to save civilization, extraordinary methods, up to and including violence, are justified. On Jan. 6, 2021, Mr. Trump told a mass of demonstrators, “If you don’t fight like hell, you’re not going to have a country anymore.”

Americans have been told that they must fight for what they believe in, justice, truth, the American Way, whatever, for generations, but only when Trump says it is it a call for genuine violence. A legiiimate editor would redline that automatically, as it outs the whole supposedly scholarly essay for what it really is.

Let’s see…“Trump’s Speeches, Increasingly Angry and Rambling, Reignite the Question of Age” is pretty obvious, don’t you think? After spending most of Biden’s term denying that he was losing his marbles as a symptom of advancing age, now the Times’ is concerned about confirmation bias-based evidence that Trump is showing signs of infirmity because Harris, six years from retirement age, is the essence of youth. Ann does a good job fisking what she calls this Susan Faludi thing, a pure “Vote for Harris over the Evil Orange Man” doubletalk diatribe seeped in deceit. The Editorial Borad trots out a herd of disaffected associates and disgruntled former employees to trash Trump in “The Dangers of Donald Trump, From Those Who Know Him.” First in the parade is Bill Barr, who has nonetheless said he is voting for Trump over Harris. The rest of the rogues gallery is filled with those fired by Trump for cause, like James Comey and Anthony Scaramucci; documented liars, like Michael Cohen, Dr. Fauci and Cassidy Chivers, and authorities the Time routinely derides, like John Bolton, and political foes with an agenda, like Chris Christie and Liz Cheney. “He’s bad because these people say bad things about him” is about as useless and desperate an approach to covering a Presidential candidate as one can imagine. The Times includes no context or factual support, nor are the quotes dated. (Gee, I wonder when Nikki Haley’s quote was made? I guess one of those times she wasn’t sucking up to Trump, like she did at the convention.) This kind of cheap hit job is beneath a great newspaper, but the Times in 2024 isn’t even a good newspaper.

Leeeet’s see what else…Oh! Here’s Maureen Down in a full Trump-and-Vance-Hate melt-down, “JD Smirks His Way Into the Future.” Sample: “Even though Trump lives in a miasma of self-pity and his businesses often ended up in bankruptcy, somehow his fans mistake his swagger and sneers for machismo. What a joke. Trump is the one who caves, a foreign policy weakling and stooge of Putin.”

Sure, Maureen. Putin invaded neighbors under Obama and Biden, but stayed within his own borders in four years of Trump.

And, as a grand finale, we have the Times Editorial Board endorsing Harris, because she is “The Only Patriotic Choice for President.” It’s patriotic, according to the Times, to vote for the ticket and the party that revealed itself as opposing freedom of speech this week, although, to be fair, this has been obvious for a long time.

It is not a fair and free election when 95% of the news media picks the candidate that it supports and makes sure that its reporting and punditry does everything possible to promote that candidate with the public while denigrating her opponent as it has for more than eight years. That is called “trying to rig an election” and “betraying the public trust.”

  1. When the Axis says Republicans are a threat to Democracy, the simply mean they are a threat to the disred one part rule by the Democratc party. That’s all they want. They might as well pound their shoes and say, “We will bury you!”

  2. We must “fight like hell” metaphorically now, because otherwise we will have to “fight like hell” literally much sooner than I thought possible a couple of years ago. Sometimes I contemplate what chaos a Harris/Walz victory would bring to our nation and the world. Most days lately, I am concerned about what evil the Left will unleash immediately if Trump actually wins in November. At other times I muse, “What are you thinking? They’re never going to let him win again.”
