Of Hollywood Hubris, Bait and Switch and Flat Learning Curves: Just What We Need, a Woke “Gone With The Wind” With Space Invaders

I don’t know, Dana, I really don’t.

I have no idea what’s going on here. On a website called “Gone With The Wind (2025)” we get puffy blather about a stirring, high budget re-make of the politically incorrect classic, still the most successful movie of all time, ready to open at the end of 2025. It stars black Scarlett (Zendaya) and a black Rhett Butler (John Boyega). The site does not permit copying or screen shots. The director is Barry Jenkins, whose output so far has been only stories about social justice, racism, and black protagonists. The site’s description, however, tells us that this is a “Gone With The Wind” remake that will bring “fresh perspectives and contemporary sensibilities (oh-oh!) to this “modern adaptation.”

Although the web page is headlined “Gone With The Wind” (2025) Official Trailer, no trailer to the new film is on it. Several versions of the trailer for the original 1939 version are there to see, however.

Puzzled, I searched for a trailer for “Gone With The Wind” (2025), and got …

…. the trailer for “Gone With The Wind : Invasion!” Is that really a movie? Is it a spoof? Is the website a tease (that is, unethical fake or hoax) that pretends the new film is a remake? And what the hell is this:

Please rank in order of commercial viability: A GWTW starring Leonardo DiCaprio as Rhett and Megan Fox as Scarlet, a woke remake, and one with invading aliens. It’s a tough assignment.

I would normally assume that no one in Hollywood is so stupid as to make a woke update of “Gone With The Wind,” but then there were recent re-makes of “The Ten Commandments” and “Ben-Hur,” both of which bombed like the siege of Vicksburg. I assume that there are enough stupid people in Hollywood to make a science fiction version, since they got away with “Cowboys and Aliens” (barely) starring Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford in 2011.

Whatever is going on, it’s wrong.

  1. A phenomenon that drove me absolutely apoplectically bonkers: Zombie remakes such as “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.” What idiot came up with that whole thing and who consumed that stuff?

  2. Since there only appeared to be that single page (that was mostly clips from the 1939 movie), I clicked on the “home” link at the top left. Obviously a serious and professional website.

Then I did a Google search for “Gone with the Wind 2025). The first result was an X.com post that told me Melanie Hamilton was going to be played by Elizabeth Taylor in the remake. Other social media posts included one by “Crochet US” and one by an account whose name is in Arabic (I think) on Facebook. Not much else to see and no new info.

  3. Could it be AI? My Facebook Star Trek fan groups are full of fan-created AI posters of shows they want to see and updated character looks. It’s annoying as all get out.

Maybe someone decided to register a website and put up a fantasy updated version. John Boyega and Zendaya seem too much of a fanboy (or fangirl) dream cast.

    • The trailer is definitely AI. It’s a new YouTube genre where uploaders use AI to make trailers for movies jumping genre or time period.

  4. Jack wrote, “The site does not permit copying or screen shots.”

Maybe they can make a broad statement that people shouldn’t make screen shots but they literally cannot stop people making screenshots using a great tool like Windows Snipping Tool. I use this Snipping Tool all the time, it really is great tool.

Since that photo is clearly AI generated, this whole thing might be AI generated BS.

You should see all the AI generated videos and photos of the supposedly new 2025 50th Anniversary Model Honda Goldwing, there are hacks out there creating all kinds of absolute lies to get “clicks” and fill their pockets with unwarranted dollars.

  5. I honestly enjoyed Cowboys and Aliens. I find it easy to shut off my brain and enjoy movies like that, where the title alone is enough to let you know they aren’t being too serious about things. It’s movies that try to be serious and utterly fail that I find more difficult to watch.

  6. I guess the problem with Hollywood is that it is woke. You can’t be creative and woke just like you can’t be a good comedian and woke. If you have to check to see if each thing you say is allowed, you can never be creative. The left isn’t funny because they have to look around to see if they are allowed to laugh. The ‘rules’ are so nonsensical that no one can know what is allowed or not allowed.

    How about THESE movies?

Men in Black: Interns. A group of interns start their first day at ‘Men in Black’ HQ. They are escorted by the talking dog. They briefly meet the ‘star’ agents (allowing the cameos). The headquarters is attacked and everyone is captured except the interns. It is up to the interns, led by talking dog, to save the day. Formulaic and fun. May be rated G for families.

Benjamin Franklin. The true story of Benjamin Franklin (NC-17)

Reality. A movie about a man who runs an online conspiracy video channel. The thing is, he has a real source who is feeding him real secrets. The ‘hero’ (let’s call him Harry) takes these secrets and ‘jazzes’ them up for his online audience. Then his source says they have to meet in person (for the first time) because he has something important to tell him. At the meeting, he outlines a plot that has taken over key positions in the US government and is planning on ultimate control of the population. At the end of the meeting, the source is murdered in a drive-by shooting. The police arrive and, to Harry’s surprise, arrest him for the murder. They have witnesses and the murder weapon with Harry’s fingerprints on them. Harry eventually escapes from custody and must prove his innocence and expose the plot. His biggest obstacle is the fact that everyone believes he is the crazy conspiracy theory person and no one believes him. Harry should be played by Alex Jones. Jones must be contractually required to state that the movie is complete fiction if asked if there is any truth in the movie. He must do so in an extremely unconvincing way.
