Post 2024 Election Freak-Out Update…

In brief: I just have a couple of minutes…

1. The “Elon Musk wasn’t elected” might be the stupidest rallying cry any party in U.S. political history has ever anchored itself to. I just heard Rep. Maxine Waters, whose corruption and dishonesty know no bounds, shouting about that. Do these people really not understand how their own government works? Are the Democrats trying to win the title of “The Stupid Party” from the GOP? One conservative pundit said he had a three letter rebuttal to the “Elon wasn’t elected” complaint: “EPA.” Or USAID. Or FBI. Is this really the best the Axis has right now? Wow. Also “Good.” Also..

2. Over on Facebook, somebody actually posted this and dozens of once- functioning human beings “liked” it: “Dismantling the government is the first step to fascism and totalitarianism.” There’s a two word rebuttal for this too: “Thomas Jefferson.”

Morons.

3. I’ve been meaning to point out the identity of the Biden Administration head of USAID who has been defending all of that agency’s ridiculous grants and money-laundering activities. It was Samantha Power. Anyone who denies that Barack Obama and his cabal was pulling the strings in the Biden Administration should be forced to explain her presence at the top of USAID for the entire four years. She was Obama’s aide, advisor, “conscience,” and finally U.N. Representative. She was also one of his lackeys, along with Susan Rice, sent out to lie about Benghazi with the help of the mainstream media. Proving that President Trump model 1.0 didn’t comprehend what a leftist money suck USAID was, he let somebody in the Deep State talk him into appointing Mark Green, a Romney Republican, as his USAID chief, from which he immediately went on to become the president and CEO of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, a think tank extension of the same mentality behind USAID.

4. Also on Facebook, a college classmate of mine posted this idiotic meme:

My one word rebuttal for that? “Twitter.” Musk’s purchase of that social media platform was the greatest boon to freedom of speech and a functioning democracy since the destruction of Joe McCarthy. It cost him $44 billion dollars, and I doubt that he has profited a penny. Nothing Bill Gates or any other recent philanthropist has done with his gold has come close to accomplishing so much for the American people. Now Musk is working for nothing in the interests of his adopted country. That he is being vilified for this shows just how irredeemable his critics are.

5. This, from always entertaining conservative cynic Stephen Green:

“[T]he DOGE boys have Democrats spewing nonsense even more nonsensical than usual. Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif., SSR) admitted on CNBC’s Squawk Box Thursday that DOGE is “likely to find awful examples of wasteful spending” and that he’s “sure they can legitimately offer transparency and sunlight to the American people.” “Just come to Congress, show us what you’re finding, and then force up or down votes,” Khanna suggested. “And if Ro Khanna still votes for those [sic] wasteful spending, I’ll have to answer back home.”

“It was immediately following Khanna’s modified limited hangout that the flailing began. ‘Part of the issue Khanna has with Musk’s approach is that he appears to be making decisions without the voice of Congress,” IJR reported, ‘with Khanna stating that Musk can’t just ‘stop the payments or make these decisions unilaterally.’

“Did you catch that? It would be against the will of Congress for DOGE to stop Treasury payments that were never approved by Congress.”

Bingo.

5. I endorse these sentiments on “The Laughing Wolf” blog

6. Just for old times’ sake, here’s a link to the Politico story about Trump again pulling the U.S. out of the oxymoronic UN Human Rights Council. “But human rights organizations and some lawmakers argue that the Human Rights Council is an important, if flawed, entity in policing human rights abuses across the globe,” Politico sniffs. Riiiiight. “Flawed.” As Trump’s announcement says, “In 2018, the year President Trump withdrew from the UNHRC in his first administration, the organization passed more resolutions condemning Israel than Syria, Iran, and North Korea combined.”

  1. “Are the Democrats trying to win the title of ‘The Stupid Party’ from the GOP?”

As a life long Republican, I’m offended by this.

Dear God, is NOTHING sacred to the Democrats?

The GOP snatching defeat from the jaws of victory is as reliable as the sun rising in the East.

If it happens, make sure you’re right with God, because I believe that’s the final sign of the Apocalypse.

  2. 2. How do you have fascism without a government? A person may not like what happens without a government, but fascism isn’t a word that describes that.

Part of what they’re worried about is an authoritarian government, which I think is unlikely under Trump but I can see their concerns based on his approach to running the government itself. They’re also worried that Trump is getting rid of government agencies that they are relying on, wisely or not, to protect them from bad corporate actors.

I do share that concern. We do need ways to hold corporations accountable for not poisoning us, destroying the environment, crashing the economy, controlling what we read, et cetera. I don’t trust that Trump or his team know or care about holding corporations accountable.

I do think that creating transparency and revealing corruption is the first step. People need to realize that they have to take responsibility for monitoring the government themselves, and the Trump team is helping make that happen by showing that the agencies they were trusting to protect them have been betraying that trust.

      • Agreed, but an authoritarian without a government infrastructure to carry out directives is toothless. Authoritarians always, always, expand the government under their command. It’s basic common sense.

    1. Try as they could the Feds couldn’t nab Capone until they did a paper trail and Alcatraz here we go.

Is there a Deep State? That never yielding bureaucracy that has tentacles everywhere. Where is it? A wet dream of the Trump crowd? Then along comes Musk and a crew of gamers, coders, and hackers that start finding crap in a few days. Jesus, I love it!

    3. It’s been ages since Bill Gates was at the top of the richest man charts, but a quip that would go around those times went something like “If Gates stopped on his way in to work to pick up a $100 bill, the value of his time lost grabbing the currency was more than what he would have earned leading Microsoft.”

Musk’s diversion of attention fixing things broken by government is a huge reason he isn’t focusing on other philanthropic or marketplace-enriching endeavors.

Besides that, it’s not the place of some random meme maker to dictate charitable causes anyway, unless the person who earned enough to need that advice paid such an advisor to give it!

    4. No. 2. From Wikipedia:

“Fascism” is a far-right, authoritarian, and ultranationalist political ideology and movement, characterized by a dictatorial leader, centralized autocracy….

How can you run an autocracy without a government? Don’t fascists overwhelm the populace with officious and over-empowered bureaucracies staffed by bureaucrats? Isn’t Trump trying to reign in the government and get it back to doing what the populous wants it to do rather than all the dumb, overbearing things it has been doing?
