A “Don’t Trust China, China Is Asshole” Classic!

The Chengdu Snow Village project in the Sichuan province in southwestern sought to attract tourists over the Lunar New Year holiday by promoting its property as a “winter wonderland,” showing photos of thick, gleaming white snow covering the grounds and the roofs of its cabins. When the tourists arrived, however, the “snow” they saw was obviously puffs of cotton, plastic, beds sheets and other white camouflage. One structure was covered in what looked like bedding material with visible staples.

The Snow Village issued an apology on social media blaming warm weather in the region. No, the warm weather wasn’t the problem. The problem was and is the complete breakdown in societal and cultural ethics in China, a direct result of Mao’s “cultural revolution” that induced the nation’s full embrace of Orwellian government alternate realities in the 20th Century. In 2020, as political correctness censors sought tp protect China from its accountability for the world pandemic, a Hong Kong protester summed up the ethical status of China with the memorable quote, “Don’t trust China….China is asshole! ”

Bingo. Imagine any American resort attempting such an absurd con job as using cotton for snow. But Chinese organizations and establishments do this sort of thing repeatedly. Last year, Ethics Alarms discussed the revelation that a famous waterfall in a China’s national park in the Henan province was being supplemented by a hidden water pipe. Park authorities later said the waterfall had been secretly supplemented by “a tiny improvement during dry season,” so tourists wouldn’t be disappointed.

Oh. That’s all right then. At least it’s all right if you share the Bizarro World ethics of the United States’ primary rival for world influence. Just last week, Ethics Alarms reported on the signature significance of Chinese zoos disguising dogs as tigers and pandas, and donkeys as zebras. This is a nation whose entire ethical structure is based on “the ends justify the means.”

You know, like the current Democratic Party in the United States….

…and it’s despicable complicit news media, like CNN. Guess how that leftist propaganda organ spun the fake snow story? Oh, come on, it’s easy! The problem isn’t that China has created an entire culture based on lies and cheating. Poor China is just trying to cope with climate change! Here’s the “snow village” blaming the weather rather than its own corruption for the attempted scam: “In order to create a ‘snowy’ atmosphere the tourist village purchased cotton for the snow… but it did not achieve the expected effect, leaving a very bad impression on tourists who came to visit.”

Ya think???

A spokesperson for the resort told credulous reporters, “Following the precedents of previous years, we typically have snow in winter. So we set up this spot for photoshoot in advance to wait for the snow to come. However, this year, the weather didn’t cooperate, and it didn’t snow.”

CNN is obviously sympathetic. “Last year was the warmest year on record in China, according to a government agency,” CNN informs its readers. Why would CNN, or anyone, believe a Chinese government agency? The story continues, “The average temperature in Chengdu during January is typically anywhere between 37 and 50 degrees Fahrenheit (3 to 10 degrees Celsius). Across the globe, many tourist attractions that depend on snow have been grappling with rising temperatures brought by climate change.”

There is absolutely no way to blame seasonal variations in temperatures in any one year in any single locale on climate change. (Incidentally, it is about 20 degrees in Northern Virginia right now, approaching all-time records for cold.) CNN is peddling fake news. Again. “When Beijing hosted the 2022 Winter Olympics, climate variability forced the Games to be virtually 100% reliant on artificial snow,” CNN adds.

I guess we’re supposed to be grateful that the country didn’t resort to covering the hills with cotton balls….like that Snow Village:

Jack, Jack, Jack, you ignorant slut. It’s climate change, not global warming. Any weather, good or bad, is evidence of climate change. Get with the program. It’s not just global warming any more. It’s extreme weather. So, any weather other than “normal” is conclusive proof that a naturally occurring inert gas comprising .04 percent of the earth’s atmosphere is heating (or cooling, take your pick) the atmosphere and rendering the world uninhabitable. And it’s also proof that the dangerous portion of this kryptonite like gas is produced predominately by white, straight (i.e. unenlightened), capitalist, non-Democratic party voting humans.

    • OB. In response to a post on Facebook talking about increasing CO2 levels causing climate change I asked if any of our climate scientists have ever established the optimal level of CO2. No one has yet to respond.

What is interesting about that photo is that the snow covers roofs and railings with spots of snow on the ground. You would think that if snow is on the roofs and railings there should be far more snow on the ground. The tourists must be easy marks.

      • I asked if any of our climate scientists have ever established the optimal level of CO2.”

Depends, Green Houses seek 1000 ppm CO2 because (and this is where it gets GOOD!) it exponentially increases photosynthesis which results in enviable crop yields/production over the outside world.

The outside world? Climate AlarmaCYSTS slobber profusely that >350 ppm is the Tipping Point beyond which Mother Gaia will teeter precariously on the edge of Climate Armageddon, then leave orbit, plummet into the Sun, and we all get…um…warmed to death.

Funniest thing; we’re past 350 ppm now. Robert Bryce pointed out in Power Hungry that the original Do Not Pass Go point was 450 ppm, but that wasn’t horrifyingly scary enough…so…guess what happened?

~20 years ago the 350.org waifs arranged a bunch of kayaks to form 350 in Chequamegon Bay on Lake Superior in order to call attention to, I guess, themselves.

Being a denizen of the Northwoods and up there at the time, I happened to drive through the parking lot where there happened to be (heh!) beau coup SUVs with license plates from all over the United States.

Not quite Al Gore’s 07/07/2007 Lear Jets For Global Warming…I mean Live Earth Concert, but you get the picture.

While the breathtakingly hypocritical profligacy of AlarmaCYSTS is off the charts, as one [arguably] brilliant EA commenter points out HERE, they must believe no one’s WATCHING.

        They’d be wrong!

  2. My favorite climate related CNN report was also China related. Before the Beijing Olympics a reported was in China reporting on air pollution, speaking with locals who hadn’t seen the sun in weeks because of the heavy smog, breathing difficulties as a result, etc. At the end of the report, the CNN anchor said “still, statistically, the United States is the largest polluter in the world.”

  3. Yet another example of how, in totalitarian society, everyone lies all the time, about matters large and small, consequential and trivial. From the highest levels of government to the lowest strata of the society, everyone lies, either by choice or motivated by self-preservation.

  4. “The average temperature in Chengdu during January is typically anywhere between 37 and 50 degrees Fahrenheit (3 to 10 degrees Celsius). Across the globe, many tourist attractions that depend on snow have been grappling with rising temperatures brought by climate change.”

….Doesn’t that mean that in a typical January, the temperature would be above freezing and there wouldn’t be snow? I don’t know about you, but anything over -5 degrees C and we lose snow here, a whole month of that, and we’d have grass. Maybe Chinese snow is hardier.

On the topic of grass though, my favorite Chinese whitewashing is when they go out and paint their boulevards green.
