Meet JoAnna St. Germain, the Face of Trump Derangement

JoAnna St. Germain, a public school teacher (for a bit longer)at Waterville High School in Waterville Maine, personifies what the decade-long hate, fear and anti-democracy campaign from “the resistance,” Democrats, and the mainstream media has inflicted on the soul of America. Once, presumably, she was a normal, rational human being like you. Now, she posts screeds like this on social media:

The Secret Service has the perfect opportunity, if they choose to step up and take it. You are the ones with power. Coordinate. Take out every single person who supports Trump’s illegal, immoral, unconstitutional acts. Look at the sycophants and give them what they’re asking for.

Every other country sees what’s happening and they are taking stands.
If you step up, we can avoid a civil war. I’m not talking about assassinating a president. A president is a person duly elected by the American people.
Tr*mp has shamelessly bragged openly about stealing the election. He is making plans to give himself a third term. I’m talking about Americans recognizing a fascist dictatorship and standing against it.

Secret Service, you are Americans. My beloved military, you are Americans.
We, the people, are counting on you.

Nice. Even with rampant madness oozing through social media and the op-ed pages every day, calling for the execution of the President of the United States and all of his supporters from someone not in already in restraints like this guy…

…is unusual, especially when the provocateur has been entrusted with molding young minds. A few hours later, the teacher wrote, “I have zero shame about what I’ve said. I’m not backtracking a single thing. I believe Trump and every sycophant he has surrounded himself with . . . needs to die,” adding that she posted “knowing I’d likely lose my job and benefits.” When her call for violence was reported in some media outlets, JoAnna “doubled down,” and quite arrogantly too, writing a week ago on her Facebook page:

Apparently, I have made the news. People are quite angry with me for stating openly that Trump and his cronies need to die. Gosh, I fear I may have “Trump Derangement Syndrome”!

I’m going to hold your hand when I say this, and I say it with my full chest:
Fuck fascism. Fuck a country that suppresses the media. Fuck a country that moves to weaken the education system in order to produce weak-minded people who will follow orders. Fuck a country that sends innocent women and men to die thinking they’re defending democracy when they’re really defending the rights of corporations to fuck over the very people lining their pockets.

If you’re mad at this post, knowing that I just threw away a decade of experience teaching the truth, fully knowing that my superintendent will have to fire me? If you’re mad that I’m speaking truth to power?

Fuck you. I’ll still take a bullet to keep your child safe.

Niiiiice!

Later, as she had to know would happen, Waterville Public Schools Superintendent Peter Hallen emailed a statement to parents that said in part, “Please know that I have taken steps to ensure everyone’s safety and am, along with the appropriate authorities, actively investigating the incident.” St. Germain’s reaction:

Well all righty then!

Observations:

  • As the nuns in “The Sound of Music” might sing, “How do you treat a problem like Joanna?”You begin by taking her seriously and not shrugging her off as a just a freak nut case. I know a lot of people who are not far from her point of view at all.
  • I can be as assertive as this woman: I regard her as a victim of the political left in this country abandoning ethical speech and conduct, adopting an “ends justifies the means” ideology in its most irresponsible form, and throttling gullible, ignorant and vulnerable minds with “it isn’t what it is” propaganda until a substantial number of those minds have collapsed like those of the American prisoners of war under North Korean brain-washing techniques in “The Manchurian Candidate.”
  • I found particularly telling this section of her second long post: “Fuck fascism. Fuck a country that suppresses the media. Fuck a country that moves to weaken the education system in order to produce weak-minded people who will follow orders.” It is her favorite party that has behaved like fascists…

…lest we forget.

It is her ideological pals who argued explicitly for censorship during the 2024 Presidential campaign. And she is Exhibit A of what had become of our public education system, which seeks to indoctrinate rather than educate.

  • If substantial numbers of progressives are ready to embrace the assassin of an insurance executive as a hero and martyr, why wouldn’t they rally to support St. Claire? I assume that the will.
  • I’m not completely on board with the analysis of what this scary teacher signifies I read in “Victory Girls,” but I’m not that far away from the gangplank either:

We’ve entered an era where political disagreement is no longer debated—it’s punished. Where calling for the murder of your opponents gets hand-waved as “venting” if you’re on the Left. Where silence and inaction from the institutions that are supposed to protect us signal that some threats are acceptable—so long as they’re aimed in the right direction…

The language the Left uses about Trump supporters isn’t disagreement—it’s dehumanization. “Threats to democracy.” “Fascists.” “Nazis.” “Domestic terrorists.” They say it on cable news, they teach it in classrooms, and they post it on social media. So when someone like St. Germain says those people need to die—why wouldn’t she mean it? She’s been told, over and over again, that Trump supporters are not just wrong, but evil.

And let’s not gloss over this: she didn’t just call for Trump’s assassination—she called for his supporters to die, too. That’s not political anger, that’s a call to wipe out anyone who thinks differently. These are everyday people she’s targeting—neighbors, parents, coworkers. And she’s a teacher. This isn’t just reckless—it’s dangerous. And it damn well shouldn’t be ignored…

What Joanne St. Germain said was calculated, political, and public. She wasn’t crying for help—she was rallying for violence. And not in a whisper, but with a bullhorn. This is not a blip. It’s where the rhetoric on the Left has been heading for years. From normalized riots to mobs chasing Supreme Court justices out of restaurants—now we’ve arrived at open calls for assassination. And they still think they’re the good guys?

…That should raise a bigger question: How long has she been teaching like this? More importantly, how many more like her are out there?

This isn’t just about one teacher mouthing off online. It’s about the rot inside the system—the ones who haven’t gone viral yet, the ones quietly pushing this worldview in classrooms every day, thinking no one’s watching.

It’s a direct result of the rhetoric coming from corporate media, activist teachers, leftist institutions, and Democratic politicians who constantly stoke fear and division without accountability. Believe them when they show you who they are.

  • She’s a coward, not that its as much of a blight on her character as being an open advocate of political violence. She has not allowed comments and replies on any of her Facebook posts. People like this teacher don’t believe in debate or discourse, and, as we see occasionally on Ethics Alarms, they can’t defend their position because it is based in emotion and cant, not reality.
  • It is the rot that “Victory Girls” references that prompted this post yesterday. The JoAnna St. Germains out there can’t be persuaded, debated or reasoned with, and they will hate and fear you if you try. Maybe even kill you…

  1. It’s a mental illness. You are not wrong about that. It’s a calculated, propaganda-fueled mental illness.

Apparently, JoAnna has a problem making herself understood, though. Her first post:
“Take out every single person who supports Trump’s illegal, immoral, unconstitutional acts. Look at the sycophants and give them what they’re asking for.”

Naturally, people would interpret this to mean everyone who voted for and still supports Trump.

Her last post made sure to clarify that she doesn’t mean people who are reading her post, just Trump and his sycophants (generalization here….how does she define sycophant?). So either she is *only* calling for the President of the United States and his…Vice-President? Cabinet? Supreme Court justices? Members of Congress? Advisors like Elon Musk? …to be assassinated or she originally meant every American who voted for and supported him, as well, but is backtracking because she realizes how bad that looks.

Please be clear, JoAnna. What is a sycophant? If a sycophant isn’t someone who is reading your deranged posts, is that person free and clear of your incitement to violence? If VP Vance reads them, does this apply to him? Did it once apply to him and no longer does because he’s reading it? A teacher should be more clear.

Why shouldn’t parents of your students fear for their safety and the safety of their kids if they happen to be Trump supporters?

  2. Isn’t it some sort of federal crime to threaten the president? I’ve seen messages much less vitriolic that have resulted in jail time for the person who posted it. Hopefully this person can be put away where she cannot be a threat to anyone else, including herself.

  3. You may rest assured that views such as hers are not uncommon in Maine’s First Congressional District – e.g., that section of the State south of the Volvo Line, which separates it from the more conservative Second Congressional District.

  4. 3 options: 1. she can’t clearly make herself understood and does not understand what she means, 2. she was deliberately vague to avoid accountability and plead the 1st, 3. She is a nut job not able to handle the burdens of her biology.

As I used to be very intolerant of people who express themselves with topics like this person, I have become convinced it is hormonal/neurochemical unhealthy which pushes people over the edge. If she were arrested and force fed a diet 70%fat/30%beef, her entire mental landscape would calm down and heal, possibly to the point that she could not remember ever having posted such ranting.

  5. Jack wrote, “I know a lot of people who are not far from her point of view at all.”I know a lot of people that are very likely thinking the exact same thing as this completely delusional brainwashed fool, but to be very blunt, they’re all cowards right down to their bones and won’t do or say things that they think might seriously interfere with their daily lives. JoAnna St. Germain may be a complete brainwashed fool, very much like the delusional ANTIFA anarchists across the USA, but she is showing us that she isn’t a snowflaking coward. When investigators look back into her life and social media presence, I’m guessing they’ll find out that she was triggered into this public outburst to prove she isn’t a coward and supports “the cause”. I’m going to make an educated guess that the Secret Service and/or the FBI have been on this one since shortly after she posted the original foolish outburst and there’s likely been a warranted review about the levels of security around the President and his Administration. This story has been afloat for a few days now; does anyone wonder if people like this Gregory Humphrey, a TDS suffering regressive blogger, will openly condemn Ms. JoAnna St. Germain? Humphrey recently blamed talk radio rhetoric for the stabbing murder of a young Muslim boy on his “cesspool of hate” blog which I recently wrote about. These kind of people really do have a….

I’m not sure that professional psychological treatments will help the delusional people that are completely consumed by Trump Derangement Syndrome, the condition may be a permanent untreatable psychosis. This story would be a great story for someone to follow and do an honest study of media outlets, first whether they cover it or not, next if they condemn the behavior or whitewash or enable the behavior with piles of unethical rationalizations. I don’t have access to most of the media outlets because of paywalls so I simply can’t follow the story like that plus I’ve gotta pick the dirt out of my motorcycle tire treads and count the bugs on my the windshield after yesterday’s Crud Run ride, which I also posted about.

  6. My view is that Secret Service may need to pay her a visit, especially since Donald Trump already survived a couple of assassination attempts. My gut feeling is that her speech is protected as per Brandenburg v. Ohio (1969), but I do not see any downsides in arresting her and putting her through a criminal trial, as the process is part of the punishment.

There are too many people from the hard left who are comfortable with political violence; this has been the case since the dawn of Marxism. So when a hard left person talks about violence you need to take that serious.

Political violence in the USA is a reality that takes many forms. It includes Antifa protests in cities like Portland and Seattle, violent counterprotests such as in Charlottesville, BLM riots, anti-Tesla vandalism, SWAT attacks against conservative pundits. The reality is that all this violence and talk of violence has a chilling effect on political speech and activity. As an example I would mention Elon Musk, who has announced that he will step down from DOGE; this sends the wrong message.

Left wing politicians and pundits as a rule do not speak out against left wing (calls of) violence. Left wing local administrations do little to stop left wing violence, as we have seen during BLM riots, and Antifa riots in Portland and Seattle. Sometimes they actively side with left wing rioters as happened after the events in Charlottesville.

The DOJ needs to take a much harder action to chill left wing violence. That includes long prison sentences for left wing rioters and vandals, with J6 as precedent treating this type of violence as insurrection.

The President should also be proactive in invoking the Insurrection Act by deploying the National Guard against left-wing riots that turn violent, if local administrations fail to effectively deal with these.

If the left thinks that it should wage civil war against Trump, Trump should treat it as a war.

    • And then we have the chances of another Kent State happening increased. Yesterday was the 55th anniversary of the National Guard killing four student protesters at Kent State University in 1970. One post I saw literally read how the “Nixon administration murdered” the students, completely devoid of all reality (President Nixon did not deploy the National Guard to Kent State and was not responsible for what happened that day).

If Trump uses the National Guard to quell left-wing protests that turn into riots, you can bet that there will eventually be bloodshed and the Democrats and the media (but I repeat myself) will lock in the narrative that Trump has blood on his hands.

      • Your objection against more extreme measures as deploying the National Guard against left wing violence is about tactics and not about principle.

As we have seen since 1916, the left wants to defeat the Trump by any means possible. In the recent past this included hoaxes, bogus impeachments, lawfare, censorship, disbarments and arrests of lawyers representing Trump, treating Trump supporters as domestic terrorists, election shenanigans, violent BLM and Antifa riots. In 2020 these efforts paid off for the left with the election of Joe Biden, whose administration doubled down on the censorship and the lawfare.

Now Trump is back in the saddle, the political power of the left has declined, but the mindset of the left is still the same at all levels.

My problem with the mindset of conservatives against this onslaught is that they are way too timid, all talk and no action, and way too beholden to decorum and procedure. My view is that bloody-mindedness can only be defeated by bloody-mindedness, and that nothing should be off the table a priori in dealing with all the leftwing nonsense. That includes arresting rogue judges (Dugan) and prosecutors (Letitia James), plus a much sterner form of law enforcement against any form of rioting, swatting, and vandalism. That includes ignoring ruling of rogue judges trying to nullify the will of the people on things like immigration, a la Andrew Jackson (“John Marshall has made his decision, now let him enforce it”). And that include suppression riots by any means possible, may they occur, using of National Guard, watercannons and tear gas. It means the death penalty for Luigi Mangione. And it also means the willingness of juries to declare people not guilty, when prosecuted for protecting their property during riots, even if that involves jury nullification.

The political reality today is different than during the Nixon period. The left has lost a lot of moral credit, and so has the mainstream media. The left may have won the narrative on the Vietnam war back in the day, but is losing the narrative on illegal immigration and DOGE. This makes today’s situation different than during the Kent State University event.

So the correct policy would be to level up the deterrence against any violence of the left. Decent folks would like to see their property and themselves be protected, unlike during the BLM riots.

        • My idea for punishment of those convicted of looting, pillaging, or burning…?

His/her domicile will be emptied of all possessions, those possessions will be placed in a large pile in the middle of the street, and those possessions will be torched by the criminal’s victim(s) while the guilty party – and whoever else wants to take a look – watches.

        • CVB, you wrote “As we have seen since 1916…” While I know that is a type, it is somehow very fitting, given who was President and who received a second term in 1916…

  7. Ms. St. Germain’s reaction is exactly what you expect – and in fact WANT – in the face of an “existential threat.” I know I’m simply repeating what I’ve written before, but an existential threat has but two outcomes: 1) the threat is completely destroyed and you live, or 2) the threat lives and you are completely destroyed.

There are no other outcomes…just those two.

If we were talking about an impending asteroid strike, it would be an existential threat and we would do everything possible to destroy it. If we didn’t, there is just one other outcome: it destroys us.

And President Trump has been called an existential threat too many times to count.

This is why people like JoAnna unabashedly, unashamedly, and unapologetically write and say things like what JoAnna has written: they are convinced that President Trump must be destroyed – in this case, assassinated. If not, she believes that she and those who think like her will be killed.

That’s what they think. It’s not hyperbole to them, it’s not exaggeration, and it’s not a joke.

And yes, the media, the Democratic party, most lawyers, and far too many college professors are 100% responsible for this.

And this is why, when people say to me that the rhetoric needs to be toned down on both sides, I throw it right back at them. YOU started this, I say. YOU ramped up the rhetoric. YOU called people Nazis and Fascists and Hitler. YOU started the foul-mouthed rants and the violence. YOU started burning Teslas and destroying storefront property.

The toning down starts with YOU. YOU start backing off and then I’ll consider what I need to do.

    • Exactly. If you accuse your opponent of being Hitler and his supporters Nazis, both of which are perceived as evil, then there is no other alternative than to use all means necessary to defeat that evil. If that involves violence and assassination of the President and his Administration, then so be it. Anything less would be a capitulation.

  8. This woman is exhibit A in proving my belief the AUC and the DNC are paying people to comment on social media and “gum up the works.” This woman may be a paid DNC troll, but more likely, she’s a wannabe troll. Notice all the talking points she dutifully spouts. She’s not paid but she’s what the DNC is hoping to generate.
