“Hacks” star Hannah Einbinder, accepting her Emmy for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series last night, ended her litany of thank-yous by shouting, “Go Birds, fuck ICE and free Palestine!”
I have long believed that using a televised acceptance speech or a presenting slot to make a political statement should earn a permanent ban from future awards ceremonies as well exclusion from any future nominations and awards. It is unethical conduct, self-indulgent and abusing a captive audience that did not come to be preached at, especially since so many actors are ignorant, biased and have the political sophistication of sixth graders.
Okay, her exhortation to her favorite football team is excusable if still inappropriate, but “fuck ICE” is both uncivil and unprofessional (the “fuck” part) as well as anti-American and moronic (the ICE part). “Free Palestine” is even worse. There is no Palestine; the Palestinians are fully responsible for their own fate, and people who don’t read history should not shoot off their mouths in public and definitely not on national TV since, like this actress, they don’t know what they are talking about.
Oh: despite her saying “fuck,” attacking law enforcement and rooting for the destruction of Israel, the New York Times didn’t mention her speech in its “Best and Worst Moments From the 2025 Emmy Awards.”

As is my tradition, I skipped the ceremony and watched the In Memoriam this morning. I do this to grumpily catalog how many deaths were overlooked.
45 deaths were showcased during the 6 m 53 s segment (which technically ended at the 6 m 31 s mark when the Honored Position of Quincy Jones faded off the screen. The In Memoriam section began with Phylicia Rashad paying tribute to the late actor Malcolm Jamal Warner who played her son on The Cosby Show. The remaining 44 names and photos were serenaded by Vince Gill and Lainey Wilson in an overtly Christian song that may explain why there was virtually no audible applause or cheers from the audience, save for Ozzy Osbourne.
The scroll paused to focus on Gill and Wilson singing multiple times. It was the 2 m 21 s mark before the scroll began. It paused again from 2 m 53 s to 3 m 7 s, 4 m 0 s to 4 m 35 s and 5 m 44 s to 5 m 57 s. At least a full minute where the deceased were ignored.

Per Redford’s publicist, he died today, so definitely too late for the segment that aired last night. 🙂 Redford was largely known for movies, both before and behind the camera, but he did appear in some early television (notably a memorable episode of “The Twilight Zone”). They may include him next year.
Whether or not they will include the late Polly Holliday – who died last week and whose insertion into last night’s memorial was too late – is up in the air. Holliday’s most memorable role – the sassy waitress Flo on “Alice” – was over decades ago.
If the word FUCK is included in your statement of gratitude, the award should be snatched from your self indulgnet hands and given to the next runner up. That process should continue until a recepeint merely says “THank you” and exits stage left or right, thier choice
You can read her pro-Palestine “reasoning” in an interview. She’s incoherent and doesn’t know what she’s talking about…like most actors who bleat their political opinions in public.
