Ethics Observations on the Hampton Inn I.C.E. Freeze-Out In Minnesota

Surely you have heard about this craziness (and ethics breach) by now; it was mentioned in the comments to this EA post yesterday. A post on the official Homeland Security X account revealed that reservations made at the Hampton Inn in Lakeville Minneapolis, a suburb about 25 miles south of Minneapolis, by I.C.E. officers had been cancelled with a message suggesting that they were not welcome at the hotel chain. The DHS post included a copy of the email with the sender and recipient redacted; indeed, it stated the property would not host immigration agents.

In an abundance of caution, I decided to wait to determine “What’s going on here?” What was going on here is that a bunch of rogue woke morons decided to grandstand in anti-Trump, pro-illegal immigrant, pro-Somali immigrant scoundrels Minnesota, where they think up is down, black is white, War is Peace and unethical is ethical.

The Hampton Inn in Lakeville is independently owned and operated, and a Hilton spokesperson said that this was not a Hilton corporate action and the freeze-out was not “reflective of Hilton values.” The company is investigating the incident, as it should. Everpeak Hospitality, which operates that Hampton Inn, contacted the rejected parties, saying, “We do not discriminate against any individuals or agencies and apologize to those impacted.”

Well, in fact it did, as the assholes who pulled off this obnoxious, unprofessional, anti-American stunt were (I assume the past tense is appropriate by now) Everspeak agents. If I were in charge of Hilton, I would inform Everspeak that their days with Hilton are also numbered. I hate boycotts, as regular readers here know, but I would be tempted to make an exception for a company that discriminates against law enforcement officers, or allows others to do so in its name. Social media makes effective boycotts more likely, as Bud Light found out to its sorrow. Hilton was wise not to try to finesse this.

That’s Ethics Observation #1. This was an indefensible act, and those responsible need to be shamed, shunned, and punished.

#2. Immigrant-rights activists in Minnesota have been making them feel unwelcome with stunts like protesting late at night outside hotels where they suspect agents are staying. I regard the fanatic, illogical and stupid opposition to immigration enforcement as a social pathogen deliberately inflicted on the population by reality and ethics-challenged progressives and Democrats with delusions of socialist domination. The state culture that produces such conduct is dangerous and frightening.

#3 The New York Times report on the incident, typically and despicably, defaulted to the “Republicans pounce” trope rather than straight reporting, which would have required a “Minnesota Hilton Refuses to Accommodate U.S. Law Enforcement Officers” headline. Instead we got “Minneapolis-Area Hotel Accused of Turning Away Immigration Agents… the Department of Homeland Security claimed on social media that a Hampton Inn had canceled agents’ bookings.” It wasn’t “accused,” and DHS didn’t “claim”: that’s what happened. Then the Times frames the story as if the Trump administration brought this on themselves:

Gratuitous and irrelevant. It doesn’t matter how many law enforcement officers are in the state or why they are there. They shouldn’t be treated and worse than anyone else by a Hampton Inn.

  • “In early December, President Trump railed against Somali immigrants, calling them “garbage” and saying they should return to where they came from. Minnesota is home to a large Somali community.” So the appropriate response is to make I.C.E agents sleep outside? The President’s verbal excesses also have nothing to do with the story.
  • “Agents detained more than 600 people in Minnesota last month.

So what? That would be called, “Doing their jobs,” in stark contrast to, for example, disgraced Minnesota Governor Tim “Knucklehead” Walz.

#4. Incredibly—well, I guess none of the bizarre manifestations of Trump Derangement we’re seeing now should be regarded as incredible any more—lawyers, professors and previously sane people I know well on Facebook were cheering on the unprofessional innkeepers and announced approval for a Hilton boycott after the chain announced that it disapproved of the Minnesota Hampton Inn’s unforgivable discriminatory conduct. I had to wrestle my hands to the ground to avoid typing, “What the HELL is the matter with you people? Jeez, get help, take a vacation, read the Constitution, get a lobotomy, something. You’re embarrassing yourselves and me for knowing you.”

  1. Imagine if grocery stores, gas stations and any other business started to deny service to people with Resist stickers, Harris Walz political bumper stickers, or Rainbow/tolerance stickers or Minnesota license plates. I wonder how that would go over,
Hilton has removed that facility from their booking site.

  2. Just a few minutes before seeing this EA post, I saw an update from Blaze News which indicated that Hilton is removing the Hampton Inn in Lakeville, MN (owned by Everspeak Hospitality) from their system. https://www.theblaze.com/news/hilton-hotel-ice-cut-minneapolis?utm_source=theblaze-dailyPM&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Daily-Newsletter__PM%202026-01-06&utm_term=ACTIVE%20LIST%20-%20TheBlaze%20Daily%20PM&tpcc=email&sailthru_id=52d019210f365bf272f06062&mb=Y

  3. Living in Oregon, I see this crap all the time. The fervor of the anti-ice folks feed off each other and they’re spewing a narrative that is dangerous for the gullible. They refer to ICE arrests as “kidnappings.” They dial 911 and report it as exactly that. The really dangerous one for the gullible is they have the “wisdom” that ICE and CBP are not real law enforcement. They also spread the claim that ICE and CBP don’t have authority to arrest citizens. Even state government officials claim that ICE and CBP can’t just put whatever license plate they want on a car. Since there are those that try and track the license plates, both agencies have taken up the practice of changing plates daily. The protesters claim that ICE and CBP must follow traffic laws.

Some of the practices of those attempting to interfere with agents are borderline. Things like following are a stretch to get a conviction for interference. Maybe harassment, but probably interference. But things like blocking an agent’s vehicle in with your car is not even close. It’s an 8+ year sentence if convicted. The gullible are doing things like that by being egged on, and many are now shocked at how much trouble they’re in.

    • “The protesters claim that ICE and CBP must follow traffic laws.”

Of all the things you list, this is the only one that is remotely true. The same rules apply to them as for any police car, marked or unmarked, including the exceptions for when flashing lights and sirens are in use.

    • They refer to ICE arrests as “kidnappings.”

      Yes, they do.

As someone online pointed out, gun rights activists would have a stronger claim that arresting people for violating “common sense”, “sensible” gun laws constitute kidnapping, as they argue that these laws are unconstitutional, thus vopid, and arresting people for violating void laws is kidnapping.

If people who simp for illegals get to obstruct enforcement of laws they do not like, then everyone gets to do so.

How will these people feel if gun rights supporters obstructed the enforcement of “common sense”, “sensible” gun laws?

      • The example that I think fits best would be: what of anti-abortion protesters were in front of planned parenthood acting like ANTIFA does in front of ice facilities?

We all know that the left would go apyoplectic for 1/10 of the conduct we witnessed in Portland or Broadview.

I also like to point out the doxing of abortion doctors vs. ICE agents. “If abortion doctors aren’t doing anything illegal, why should they fear being identified?” It is probably the only parallel that the anti-abortion folks are getting away with. Anything else as far as direct harassment gets vigorous law enforcement response and arrest and vigorous prosecution of all involved.

    • Now we have a follow up to this where a woman is now dead. It is alleged that she tried to box in an agent’s vehicle before the video started. They went to remove her and she tried to drive away, moving towards and agent and he shot and killed her.

It is very likely she wouldn’t have tried something so incredibly reckless if it wasn’t for the leftist bubble egging this behavior on. That’s why I consider their conduct both very unethical and very dangerous. She’s not the first to die this way and will be far from the last. That’s someone’s daughter, maybe sister, mother, wife… Gone after being egged on but stupidity.

Insuspect the video below will be removed by YouTube. Be forewarned it is of a police shooting but you cannot see the gore. I had to watch the beginning twice, but it is clear that she tried to run an agent over. I have heard it stated that officers creating an exigency by standing in front of a car shouldn’t be considered self defense. Maybe so, maybe not. A case like this where she could be picked up later is probably a good argument for that line if thinking. She is no bank robber nor a murderer. But that argument aside; she’s dead and it is a near certainly the officer will not be charged.

  4. Have you heard of this moronic trend protesters are using?

    https://www.theblaze.com/news/ice-home-depot-scraper-protest

The morons are angry at Home Depot. They think Home Depot should ban the entry of ICE. So what do they do? They buy an ice scraper. Then they return it, and go buy another one. The poor customer service workers at Home Depot are stuck dealing with their antics.

They’re too stupid to figure out that Home Depot really can’t do anything about it. HD is a very well known place to pick up illegal workers who will work off the books in various construction trades. The odds are very good that if you see a bunch of people hanging out, and people driving up and picking them up, you’re witnessing the off the books hiring of illegal aliens. The ICE agents don’t even have to enter HD property to witness the transactions most of the time. Once observed, the agents have probable cause, and that’s all that’s needed to enter a place open to the public to pursue possible illegal aliens.

  5. Hilton responded correctly. They both have a PR issue, and an absolute business worry. They’re a huge government contractor, and their entire relationship with the federal government is at risk. They could be declared in breech of their contract and be denied future business.

Hilton handled this right. If it was the rouge action of a manager and the manager has been properly terminated, Hilton could restore the agreement with the franchise. If it was the position of the franchisee, the ban can stay.

Everspeak Hospitality: Not so much. If this was the rouge action of a manager, they should be very public that the involved employee(s) are no longer employed there and that the conduct wasn’t condoned, then OK. But they didn’t say that. It could be that the action was taken by one or more employees, but Everspeak Hospitality is only upset they got caught. If so, screw those guys. Or it could be something from the top, and then really screw those guys.

  6. These companies need to undertake a purge of wokeness. It is not in their best interest to have employees go rogue and embarrass the whole company in front of the country. I’d say start with a walk through the parking lot and the firing of all employees who have woke bumper stickers. I know that’s harsh, but enough is enough.

This crap started in Maine with the fuel oil salesman who left a message on his answering machine that if you voted for Trump you’re going to have to get your heating oil somewhere else this winter. That’s marginally more okay for him since he is probably running his own business, and he can choose to take the hit. It is not for self-righteous minor functionaries to decide that the company they work for is suddenly too good to do business with a particular law enforcement agency, because they say so.

Maybe under Biden they can get away with this stuff or even be quietly approved of, but it should be obvious by now that the current administration isn’t going to go for this or even look the other way. Businesses are only about the bottom line, and though 5 years ago they might have needed or believe they needed to kiss the ass of black lives matter to reach that bottom line, today they need to cooperate with the government to reach that bottom line.

    • I would imagine that business owner would have been quite shocked if any costumers actually called to cancel their oil deliveries. The level of unprofessionali in making such a call is stunning. The bubble is thick.

  7. I feel like many of the people who are cheering ICE agents being evicted from the Hampton Inn also probably posted memes of the Holy Family being denied a room in the inn and/or their emmigration to Egypt to escape persecution….

  8. I’m 99.99% sure that if illegal aliens living in the US were not counted in the Census for purposes of representation in Congress, the Democrats wouldn’t give two shits about illegal aliens. In fact, California would be shooing them out of the country (or over into Republican-majority States) in record numbers.
