It’s Reassuring To Know I’m Not The Only One With Hopelessly Trump Deranged Facebook Friends…

One of Ethics Alarms’ five commenters, indeed one whom I have had the pleasure to meet in person, took the plunge I will not take and wrote a Facebook post focusing on the Minneapolis I.C.E. shooting, noting that so many critics of the agent involved are displaying ignorance regarding the kinds of instant decisions “first-responders” must make in unpredictable and dangerous situations.

Since his was, typical of his contributions here, persuasive, measured, articulate and non-confrontational, one might assume that the responses to his post might reflect thoughtful consideration. In most cases, one would be wrong in that assumption.

One bright commenter wondered why the agent who fired on I.C.E.-defying protester Good didn’t “shoot out a tire” as her car came at him. Another analogized the Good scenario to this: “So when a masked man with no identification breaks down your door in the wrong house, brandishing a gun and yells at your terrified wife to drop to the ground and it takes her 5 seconds to understand the situation as she is frozen in fear, then turns to run it is perfectly fine for her to get 3 headshots because she might have had a weapon?”

I don’t know how it is possible to respond to someone who thinks that is a valid argument, except with the “Cheers” classic. “What color is the sky on your planet?”

Another “It isn’t what it is” reply was this: “These agents are not law enforcement”…[They are]…”and they are not following legal procedures.” [They are.] “When you surge a masked paramilitary force into American cities, to rattle civilians”….[Right, that’s what I.C.E is there to do.]…” bad shit is gonna happen”…[If the irresponsible elected officials encourage bad shit]… all the more so when it’s done for political purposes [Dishonest Axis talking point alert!]… (It has nothing to do with “fighting crime.”)”

Regarding that: I.C.E. just released a partial list of the illegal immigrant criminals who were roaming “sanctuary state” Minnesota’s communities and who have been apprehended. These are among the people the Minnesota scofflaws are calling “peaceful neighbors,” and I’d say that it is irrefutable that arresting them constitutes “fighting crime”:

Sriudorn Phaivan, a Laotian illegal alien convicted of strong-arm sodomy of a boy & strong-arm sodomy of a girl with a deportation order since 2018.

Tou Vang, a Laotian illegal alien convicted of sexual assault and sodomy of a girl under age 13 and procuring a child for prostitution with a deportation order since 2006.

Chong Vue, a Laotian illegal alien convicted of the strong-arm rape of a 12-year-old girl and kidnapping a child with intent to sexually assault her, with a deportation order since 2004.

Ge Yang, a Laotian illegal alien convicted of strong-arm rape, aggravated assault with a weapon, and strangulation with a deportation order since 2012.

Pao Choua Xiong, a Laotian illegal alien convicted of rape and child fondling with a deportation order since 2003.

Kou Lor, a Laotian illegal alien convicted of rape, rape with a weapon, and sexual assault with a deportation order since 1996.

Hernan Cortes-Valencia, Mexican illegal alien convicted of sexual assault of a child and DUI with a deportation order since 2016.

Abdirashid Adosh Elmi, a Somalian illegal alien convicted of homicide.

Gilberto Salguero Landaverde, a Salvadoran illegal alien convicted of three counts of homicide with a deportation order since June 2025.

Gabriel Figueroa Gama, a Mexican illegal convicted of homicide who has been previously deported in 2002.

Galuak Michael Rotgai, a Sudanese illegal alien convicted of homicide.

Thai Lor, a Laotian illegal alien convicted of two counts of homicide with a deportation order since 2009.

Mariana Sia Kanu, an illegal alien from Sierra Leone convicted of two counts of homicide with a deportation order since 2022.

Aldrin Guerrero Munoz, a Mexican illegal alien convicted of homicide with a deportation order since 2015.

Abdirashid Mohamed Ahmed, a Somalian illegal alien convicted of manslaughter with a deportation order since 2022.

Mongong Dual Maniang Deng, a Sudanese illegal alien convicted of attempt to commit homicide, weapon possession, and DUI.

Aler Gomez Lucas, a Guatemalan illegal alien convicted of negligent homicide with a vehicle and DUI with a deportation order since 2022.

Shwe Htoo, a Burmese illegal alien convicted of negligent homicide.

Here is what’s particularly disturbing: The EA commenter has over a thousand FB friends, and not one of them responded to his post with a logical, factually accurate claim that the I.C.E. agent was in the wrong, though some expressed the neutral position that confirmation bias was driving the opposing narratives. One unforgivable claim that surfaced was that the agent shot an “unarmed” woman. She was driving a car at him. This lie has taken hold on the Left; it is a near exact replay of the “Hands up! Don’t shoot!” lie that sparked riots over the legal and necessary shooting of Michael Brown. Brown was “unarmed” too: he was just charging his 300 pound bulk at a police officer who had ordered him to stop.

I wonder why the officer didn’t shoot his sneakers off?

  1. Listing the illegals caught and what they did won’t sway anyone on the left.

Just look at how the reverence they have for the human garbage that was George Floyd. They were willing to look past his previous actions in the furtherance of their agenda.

The media tries to sway the middle with the “good immigrant” stories. Just recognize those are only for the middle. The left is riddled with guilt for the actions of their ancestors and their penance is to let those fleeing the third world walk all over them. They welcome the rapists and murderers and don’t want even them to be deported. Just look at the way the sanctuary states refuse to turn over the rapists and murderers when they are released.

It really is a death cult.

    • I found it useful to have the names and the crimes. but to be somewhat nitpicky, were those types of crimes in the majority or not? That was 18 out of how many? and what were the crimes of the others?

Probably naive but if more people knew the type of people being arrested and deported, they might be a little less harsh towards ICE and their tactics. It’s just I don’t trust Trump all that much; not that he is deliberately lying just that he speaks off the cuff with no thought as to whether it’s true.

  2. Let me list the whoppers that I’m seeing in my feed:

    • ICE can’t arrest a citizen.
    • It isn’t a crime just to get in the way of ICE.
    • “She was just trying to get away. OK, you realize eluding an officer is a crime, right?
    • The 4th amendment means an officer needs a judicial warrant to open a car door.

All of this makes me realize what a good civics teacher I had back in high school. We went down, step by step, how to handle a traffic stop. We went step by step on how to handle an officer at your front door. My only criticism of the guy was he was rabidly anti gun, but hey, aren’t almost all teachers? Sadly this experience is not universal. I’ve gone through this with my kids, and they say they got none of it at school.

  3. I am just wondering, why is everybody focused on the events last week in Minneapolis, and almost nobody (surely not on the left) pays attention to the developments in Iran?

    • Right? I seldom post on Facebook anymore but did on Friday just to say that I can’t believe people want to argue about a stupid woman in Minnesota and no one is talking about Iran.

Elon Musk has made Starlink available for those who can access it in Iran to get around the government’s internet blackout there. At the same time, the UK wants to ban X.com, making me wonder which side they’re on. All of this should be bigger news than ICE enforcing our laws.

      • Sorry, but I can’t help thinking the left is keeping quiet on Iran because Trump has threatened to take kinetic action if the mullahs start murdering lots of people. So, it’s simply physics, my dear. If Trump’s against the mullahs, the left is for the mullahs and, you know, national sovereignty, and duly elected despots any enemies of Israel. See, e.g., Venezuela.

        • I hear rumors that 2000 protesters already have been killed in the recent Iran protests. Silence by the leftwing media. I guess that this is because Iran is not Hams controlled Gaza, and the animus against the mullahs does not even approach the animus against Israel or Donald Trump.

    • Holy cow! Were the crimes for which they were convicted and set for deportation committed in the U.S. or their country of origin? I hope not the former. That’s a heck of a lot of chaos they’ve loosed here if it’s the former. But maybe they preyed on their own “community”, so no one really cared that much?

  4. During the last year the lists of apprehended illegal immigrant criminals has seemed to be overwhelmed by sex abuse crimes. We believe that Venezuela purposely sent criminals and freed prisoners to our borders. Did other countries do the same? Are they trying to help the Left destroy America, or just ridding themselves of problems?

    It’s horrifying.

  5. I’m taking a stab at the issue. Here goes.

Very few people are on Facebook to have their minds changed, or even for friendly exchange of information to improve their understanding of reality.

Many people are on it to kill time, to posture, to virtue signal, to guess what their friends are up to (based on wall updates)…to promote their business, to “private message” someone (perhaps to get a third person’s contact information). Perhaps to “facebook stalk” a person of vague romantic interest. To see if a business such as a restaurant still exists.

Facebook is a “crippled medium,” if you’ll pardon the metaphor. Crippled in a particular way. It is in “Safe Mode” all the time when it comes to debate.

Thoughtful people interested ideas are elsewhere. Perhaps Substack. Perhaps Twitter/X if they can manage the chaos and semi-anarchy. I don’t know where they are, but Facebook does not sustain thoughtful debate.

I don’t know how to characterize Facebook, but a debating society it is not.

P.S.: In my own highly limited experience I can think of one successful “Facebook Salon” for the fruitful and pleasant exchange of ideas. It was run by the late Professor Fred Shelley of blessed memory. Many people knew each other from academic Geography circles or professional GIS/Mapping/Remote Sensing and similar vocations / avocations. Fred would after repeated warnings ban people from his “salon.” It was on his FB page.

P.P.S.: Facebook makes it hard to find things that people said last week. That’s not a bug, that’s a feature.
