Ethics Quiz: The Despicable Representative From The Great State of South Carolina

This is a bit of departure from the usual Ethics Alarms quiz. I’m not going to ask whether conduct is ethical or not, or what the ethical response is to a particular conflict or dilemma. No, I’m going to ask what a fair and proportionate description would be of the latest vile, racist crap emitted by this serial hate-mongering demagogue.

That’s Rep. James Clyburn—recognize him? He took credit for getting Joe Biden nominated in 2020, and thus has blood on his hands from the carnage out country has suffered from four years of governance by faceless, unelected woke bureaucrats pulling the strings of a senile President. Gee, thanks, Jim!

Check out Clyburn’s EA dossier, easily one of the most damning short of Nancy Pelosi or the late Rep. Barbara Lee. Clyburn’s 85 now, and an “icon,” because he marched with Martin Luther King (but then so did Marion Barry). But he’s always been an flagrant anti-white racist and hyper-partisan liar. Nonetheless, Clyburn topped himse;f while appearing in “The View,” which itself is showing symptoms of dementia. He told the ignorant ladies, and the even more ignorant viewers who watch their daily idiocy, that the modern GOP is trying to bring back slavery. “Anything that’s happened before can happen again,” Clyburn said, as the Trump Deranged of “The View” sat rapt, as if at the feet of the Buddha. “They were trying to set up a process that will allow this country to return to what it was in 1876 when the election got thrown into the House of Representatives and they were able to overturn what Abraham Lincoln and the Congress had done successfully getting rid of slavery. That is what they’re attempting to do today. I get sick and tired of hearing people say this ‘it’s never been like this before,’ Yes, it has!”

Yup. the Republicans are secretly trying to restore slavery. Damn, who squealed? Now, Joe Biden told a black audience, even before his brain started springing leaks, that Republican were planning “to put y’all back in chains!” in 2012, but even then nobody too what Joe said too seriously. Clyburn, however, is supposed to be a revered statesman. Then again, ABC is supposed to have a responsible news department and it allows “The View” to present such garbage under its auspices. In fact, even “The View” is supposed to have some standards, and yet no one of the women on the panel had the integrity, gust or decency to tell the Congressman, “Oh please! How can you say that? The Republicans literally want to go back to selling black men, women and children in auctions, and making them work without pay? By what dark magic would they be able to bring that about, even if they wanted to?”

I should also point out that Clyburn’s history is almost as fanciful as his anti-GOP slander. To begin with, it was the Democrats, not the Republicans, who ended reconstruction with the bartered Presidential election of 1876, and all that happened was the Federal troops were pulled out of the South. Slavery wasn’t “restored,” but the former Confederate states successfully withheld civil rights from blacks with the full support of Southern Democrats until forced integration and the civil rights legislation of the Johnson Administration.

But I digress…

Your Ethics Alarms Ethics Quiz of the Day is…

What is a fair and proportionate characterization of Clyburn’s statement that nonetheless does not minimize the vile and irresponsible nature of his claim?

  1. Jack– You referenced “the late Barbara Lee…” in the post. I have it on good authority that Barbara Lee left Congress and took on the role of mayor of Oakland, CA, where she is today, maintaining the Democrat legacy of ruining every government entity they can get heir hands on.

Could there be two of them?

  2. Answering the Ethics Quiz question, my understanding is that the prevailing view, especially among the Left, is that the practice of sharecropping, popularized during Reconstruction, was virtually equivalent to slavery, hence the “overturning” what Lincoln and Congress did to end slavery. As for “what they are attempting to do today”, Clyburn may have been referring to the progressive notion that tough on crime policies result in more black people in prison, doing prison labor, hence it’s a deliberate plan to force blacks into involuntary servitude again.

    • I’m assuming the Clyburn is including post-Reconstruction segregation and Jim Crows laws as being a part of slavery. Part of the Left’s justification for reparations is that, even if there are no persons today who have been legally held as slaves in the United States, there are plenty who were victimized by discriminatory practices, such as red-lining and school segregation, that are tantamount to slavery in their eyes.

      • And yet Ketanji Brown Jackson views those ‘black codes’ today as valid laws that guide our understanding of our ‘historical tradition’. She feels that those same discriminatory laws should be used as valid guides to justify the way Democrats can limit our Constitutional rights today.

        Democrats going to Democrat.

  3. “but the former Confederate slaves successfully withheld civil rights from blacks with the full support of Southern DemocratsI assume you meant to say “former Confederate States”

  4. To answer the question what is a fair proportionate response would require that an avenue to deliver that message to a similar number of people be available. Because it is generally not available the issue is relatively moot. The best one can do is challenge everyone who spots such garbage to provide concrete evidence of some plan or be called a liar and a conspiracy theorist.

The only people fighting to keep slave wages are those fighting to protect illegal immigrants from deportation. Surplus labor in low skill jobs are filled by those not legally entitled to work here who displace protected American workers driving wages down in those sectors. This leads to demands to raise the minimum wage in legal employment which when successful leads to price escalation and greater shifts toward capital and away from employment of labor.

Think about this. In 1860 farm workers were provided food, shelter, medical care but were owned as property and not paid. That is what made them slaves.

By 2012, far more are provided food, shelter, medical care by the great master of government. While not directly owned, those that stray from the metaphorical plantation become socially estranged which is the whip of the Democrat party. The chains that bind people are not made of steel they are made of free stuff that satisfies their basic needs. Like an wild animal that is fed by humans they lose the ability to survive in the wild without assistance. Democrats want them that way.

Because the Democrats have used the black populace as their willing electoral servants, because they were trained to be the “house nigger”. Now that white women wanted the ability to terminate unwanted pregnancies, black women are aborting 40% of all black children which means the Democrats need a new source of voters they can bind with special gifts for them. They think illegal aliens will fill the bill. So, who is enslaving whom?
