Fact: MS NOW, aka MSNBC, Is Entirely A Leftist, Woke, Untrustworthy Anti-Trump Propaganda Operation [Corrected!]

As the screen showed the altered photo of Pretti, MS NOW host Nicolle Wallace ranted, “The people there were pushed to the brink over the weekend, again in the wake of another killing of a nonviolent bystander by ICE agents in Minneapolis This time, it was 37-year-old Alex Pretti, an ICU nurse who cared for veterans. Donald Trump and his cabinet, his administration, are demanding once again that you not believe your eyes and ears.”

She went on: “Fortunately, for the sake of our country and our democracy, Americans in large numbers today are choosing to reject Donald Trump’s lies and his administration’s lies and reject a smear campaign by Donald Trump and his administration that is intended to somehow justify the unjustifiable, state-sanctioned act of brutality on the streets of an American city.”

Nothing like calling the President a liar while using a fake photo to support a non-journalistic, partisan rant. Nah, there’s no mainstream media bias!

The constant use of Pretti’s benign occupation to make him seem like a paragon of virtue and an innocent victim (likewise Renee Good is always described as “a mother”) is deceitful but not outright fabrication. A photo altered to build sympathy, however, is deliberate misinformation.

The practice also exploits indefensible bias. Ted Bundy was attractive without digital enhancement.

MS NOW was caught. Joe Rogan among others pointed out the difference between the real Pretti and the glam version, and finally the network had to admit what it had done. “MS NOW swapped out the original thumbnail image for this video. The previous thumbnail used was an AI-enhanced image of Alex Pretti,” an editor’s note read.

No apology, no explanation of why this was done, no information about who was responsible and what consequences that individual suffered. My guess? He or she got high-fives with MS Now brass saying, “Nice try, kid!”

The sanctification of Pretti was evident all over the Axis media. CNN panelist and co-host of “The View,” counterfeit conservative Ana Navarro, described Pretti as a “perfect guy … the guy you’d want to date your daughter, the guy you want your son to grow up to be, a decent human being who was serving humanity…there is nothing that has been said about that man that isn’t wonderful. And so they can’t malign him.”

Funny, I’d think spitting on law enforcement officers and kicking their vehicles would disqualify someone from being described as “perfect.”

Of course, thanks to the incompetent and irresponsible Kristi Noem, supporters of immigration enforcement have to put up with a “Whataboutism” defense on MS Now after she described Pretti as a terrorist and misrepresented the circumstances that led to his death.

But nobody in their right mind relies on Noem for news and factual reporting. For that matter, those with functioning brains and memories superior to mayflies don’t rely on the President for facts either. Yet I know dozens of once intelligent people who get virtually all of their news from a pure propaganda organ and a sinister one: the former MSNBC.

  1. A photo altered to build sympathy, however, is deliberate misinformation.”

In those halcyon days of yore, when news outlets wouldn’t/couldn’t use altered images, they simply hit the Way Back Machine button, like they did with George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin in 2012.

White Hispanic Zimmerman’s photo du jour was a 2005 booking mug shot: “(H)e was 22 in the photo, which was taken after he was arrested for assaulting an officer. (The charges were dropped.) He looks unhappy, if not angry.” He was also Orange Jumpsuit clad and 60 pounds heavier.

Martin? Was it the current angry, tatted, gold-toothed, purple drank swilling, thug wannabee flipping off the camera?

Not exactly; “(t)he dominant photo of Martin shows him 13 or 14 years old, wearing a red Hollister T-shirt. Other photos, NONE OF THEM RECENT, depict a young Martin in a youth football uniform, holding a baby and posing with a snowboard. HE IS THE PICTURE OF INNOCENCE. (bolds/caps/italics mine)

What might the parable of “The Dishonest Waiter” suggest?

    PWS

  2. Wikimedia Commons (Snopes Illustration)

A better contrast. From the Snopes article. I’m not exactly what the green and red emblems are supposed to indicate, but the image on the right is the enhanced image. His face is more ovoid and broader, his smile is more handsome, his shoulders are broader and (not shown here) he’s been given larger biceps! N.B. The Snopes article says MS NOW says they didn’t manipulate the photo; they simply used a manipulated photo they got off the internet. Is that excuse more or less damning?

  3. Yes, this is manipulation, just like the White House’s altered photo of Nakima Levy Armstrong to make her appear disheveled and weeping after her arrest at the church in St. Paul, MN. A much more radical alteration, in my opinion. I am NOT defending the protest at the church. I am pointing out that it is done by both sides and it needs to be acknowledged.

  4. Jeez. I try to take an early and well-deserved break, and then I’m drawn right back in.
If we can separate the image from the narration — okay — no ‘if’ here. I (an experienced photoshop user) can see the image without hearing the talking head. The altered photo is the original slightly darkened and stretched a bit wider. Done just to make Pretti look prettier or for some other innocent reason? Who knows?
Should we trust the explanation from MSNBC? To ask that question of a biased medium is a waste of time. My answer (also experienced in journalism) is a resounding “No!”
Fortunately for me, I grew up in the Groucho era, before influencers gained mind control, when we all knew the correct answer to, “Who do you trust?” was nobody, not even our own lying eyes.
