Unethical Headline of the Week: Mediaite

But I digress. Dershowitz made it very clear why he could no longer stomach hanging out with Democrats, other than the fact that they have savaged him for being an objective analyst of the two contrived impeachments of Donald Trump and all of the equally illegitimate lawfare cases the Biden Administration and Democratic prosecutors manufactured to keep Trump from running for President. The Democratic Party has become largely anti-Israel, pro-Hamas and anti-Semitic, and as a Jew, a lawyer and a rational man, the renowned Harvard law professor can’t tolerate it any longer. That makes sense: I don’t comprehend why any decent and informed person, and certainly any Jew, could continue supporting the party’s current mutation.

Nevertheless there’s Mediaite, playing dastardly cognitive dissonance games by attaching Dershowitz to Jeffrey Epstein in a headline about a development that has absolutely nothing to do with Epstein or, for that matter, Donald Trump. Dershowitz was one of Epstein’s lawyers in his first round of criminal charges, and he did a spectacular job, getting the sexual predator a dream deal. See, that’s what defense attorneys do. That’s their job. Anyone who impugns a lawyer for the clients he or she represents either doesn’t understand the adversary system in law or does understand but wants to deceive the hoards of dummies who walk among us.

ABA Model Rule 1.2(b): A lawyer’s representation of a client, including representation by appointment, does not constitute an endorsement of the client’s political, economic, social or moral views or activities.

Got that? Please memorize it (as I have) and spit it in the face of the next idiot who attacks a lawyer for the bad acts or character of his or her clients. Dershowitz also represented O.J. Simpson and Claus Von Bulow among other bad people, because in the United States of America, everyone is entitled to the best legal representation they can find.

Mediaite, however, having no scruples or shame and recognizing that about 85% of its readers are rabid leftists, probably anti-Semites, and the kind of silly boobs who really believe that President Trump attacked Iran to distract from the phony Epstein files scandal, published that indefensible headline anyway. So did Yahoo! News.

Ethics Alarms will no longer use Mediaite as a source. I will periodically point out what an unethical site it is, however.

  1. Dershowitz publicly announced on The Dershowitz Show a few years ago and he stated why back then, and he also made it very clear at the time that he wasn’t joining the Republican Party. So, unless Dershowitz specifically wrote or stated that he’s now officially joined the Republican Party in the op ed the Mediate title is fake news.

    • I can’t read the quoted op ed, it’s behind the paywall. If the Dershowitz quotes in the Mediate article are accurate, it looks like Dershowitz might have changed his mind about joining the Republican Party. The quotes sound a lot like what Dershowitz said on his The Dershow podcast a few years ago. He’s a very liberal Democrat that’s publicly opposing the Democratic Party because of how extreme the Democratic Party has become, it’s his way of publicly protesting the party. I predict he’ll stick with his public position but he’ll likely vote like a dutiful Democrat anyway, anyone with a (D) after their name, because he agrees with the majority of the Democratic Party platform just not the extremist rhetoric; yes it’s hypocrisy, but that’s how Democrats have been trained to vote.

    • No, it’s true. I read the editorial in the WSJ and he just can’t stomach the Democratic Party’s stance on Israel. He also said he really hopes they’ll mend their ways (I’m paraphrasing) and let him and others return to the fold. I’m not holding my breath, though. He’s been pretty scathing for quite a while on this subject.

  2. Erg, the headline is doubly deceiving. I was entirely unaware of Dershowitz representing Epstein. I assumed the headline meant he was presenting Epstein at the time of his death, where Dershowitz’s involvement in the case might be relevant to current affairs. However, you state Dershowitz was involved in the first case, rendering the association as nothing but cognitive dissonance fodder!

Incidentally, I think you should use Blinky to illustrate the article. 😉

    • And I’m sure that Mediaite wanted to make sure people knew he’d represented Epstein and hoped they would think he’d represented him more recently than he did.

  3. I took a quick look at the headline of this post and “Epstein Lawyer” didn’t even register with me. Strange. I focused on the unlikelihood of Dershowitz becoming a Republican.

The CA Bar Association seems to disagree as they stripped John Eastman’s license to practice law due to his representation of Donald Trump.
