The Graham Platner Candidacy in Maine Reaches Signature Significance Status on Many Fronts

Yikes.

I haven’t written much about the Graham Platner debacle in Maine. I will have to now, because he is a walking, talking, lying human ethics train wreck, and strong evidence of the contempt our political parties have for both the Republic and its voters. Democrats think they have a real shot at defeating long-time “centrist” Republican Senator Susan Collins, who is pretty much a NeverTrumper. The fact that Platner is running unopposed in the Democratic primary to be the party’s choice to oppose her has been looking for some time as if the Mad Left is whistling past the graveyard, and incidentally, desperate, deluded and nuts. I summarized Platner’s virtues exactly a month ago here, writing in part,

He has said women who are raped are at fault. He said that blacks don’t tip. He has called called white, rural Maine dwellers stupid. He uses “fag” to describe gays. Platner praised Hamas, rationalized urinating on corpses, and has denigrated police officers. He once referred to Jesus as a “zombie” and the Virgin Mary as a “skank.” He also had a Nazi tattoo on his chest and defended it for years. On the plus side, Platner approves of political violence, so at least in that sense he’s a mainstream 2026 Democrat.”

And the hits just keep on coming for Platner. Today we learned that his supposed occupation as a small town Maine harbormaster—-See? He’s a real Maine-y blue collar guy!—is a rather wan resume item. The Washington Free Beacon reports,

“Platner’s town of Sullivan got by without a harbormaster from February 2022, when Platner’s predecessor resigned, until September 2023, when town officials tapped Platner to serve as “an interim Harbor Master until one could be hired,” records show. Platner had volunteered for the role in case Maine law required Sullivan to have one, though the town’s Harbor Committee noted at the time that it was “not clear” he was needed because “operations in the Harbors are handled by those who use the Harbors without dispute” and because the role’s “largest challenges are clerical” and “can be handled by the Harbor Committee.”Platner dropped the “interim” title in March 2024, when he completed the basic training required to be considered a “qualified Harbor Master.” He served in the role until the summer of 2025, when he launched his candidacy, according to Sullivan town manager Ray Weintraub, who told the Free Beacon that being town harbormaster generally consisted of collecting rent fees for Sullivan’s fewer than two dozen permitted moorings, where boats can anchor offshore. “We don’t really have any working waterfront, so to speak, other than a couple of boat launches,” Weintraub explained.”

Wow, this guy is really qualified to be a U.S. Senator! You wonder why “the country’s in the very best of hands” and ends up with idiots, crooks, fakes, poseurs and dolts in Congress? You know, like Republicans George Santos, Lauren Boebert, Margery Taylor Greene, and (oh, let’s pick a Democrat out of the hat) Ex-Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick of Florida, who resigned from Congress moments before the House Ethics Committee was going to sanction her, among other offenses, stealing nearly $5 million in Federal Emergency Management Agency funds for her campaign? It’s because parties keep nominating ridiculous, untrustworthy, unqualified people. Platner, however, is special.

He’s also been endorsed by Senator Bernie Sanders and AOC, another unqualified, incompetent boob.

The juiciest revelations about Platner came from his wife, who, the New York Times revealed, warned his campaign that her lovey-bug has a habit of sexting other women during their marriage. Classy! An Anthony Weiner wannabe! But that’s not all! Here is the transcript of the cringe-worthy video the Platner campaign persuaded his wife to post (hold onto your head!):

  1. “I just—I admire the fuck out of him.Um, so when there are news articles about our marriage, it’s just extra shitty. Can I say that online? I hope I can. Um, it’s extra shitty because people in Maine want affordable gas.”

Does this mean the price of gasoline in Maine is directly proportional to the quality of their marriage?

    • I don’t recall anyone being upset about expensive gas during the Biden administration.

In an interesting twist, I saw an article, I think it was in The Guardian, about how people in Iran are getting upset about inflation and the high cost of chicken and cooking oil and eggs. I wasn’t sure what we were supposed to make of the article. Lefties are saying the Iran war should be stopped by Trump because gas is too expensive here. So, are lefties saying Iran should surrender because chicken and cooking oil are too expensive in Iran as well? They are actually saying something negative about Iran?

More likely, they’re saying Iranians are suffering because of the mean United States and Trump should end the war. Kind of like the way lefties blame the suffering of the Cuban people in Cuba not on their government, but on the mean United States embargoes.

    • No actually. If Platner is elected it is proof that the base of the Democrat Party is just as ethical brain dead as Platner himself. The Maine voters who will cast a vote for him are Democrats.

      • Yellow dog Democrats, meet your yellow dog. His name is Platner. Be careful, he’s known to bite. Nor is he house trained. He’s not “a good boy.” Once in the Senate, he will make John Fetterman look like Cato the Younger.

  2. It is a lot worse than this post suggests. The platform on which he was posting is a playground for sexual predators, and has the nickname “Predator’s Paradise”. The estimates are that 70% of Kik’s users are between 13 and 24. The app has no age verification.

“Graham Platner is a sexual deviant who should be locked in a room away from his phone. He is a horrible, deranged man whose disgustingness knows no bounds,” said RNC Spokeswoman Delanie Bomar.

It is unbelievable that the Democrats in Maine choose to run with this guy instead of Janet Mills who is the current governor. Even Senator Cory Booker acknowledges that he has concerns about Platner.

Mark my words: Platner is toast. The Democrats will do everything in their power to do a Biden-Kamala switcheroo to save the election in Maine for the Democrats. Janet Mills is going to run in November, not Obersturmführer Platner.

    • I will repost my Open Forum post from last Friday as it is appropriate here.

We need to look about what is going on with Graham Plattner in Maine. There are so many rumors coming out about him, that some expect that the Democrat Party is going to pull a Biden-Kamala bait-and-switch, with Janet Mills being the Kamala.

      Here is the full text:

This is getting very curious. These influential voices are coming out on this point VERY LATE. The primary is June 9.

I do not think anything will happen in advance of the primary, and Platner is going to win with no real opponent still in the race.

BUT, under Maine law, if Platner were to drop out after winning the primary, he could be replaced by the Dems on the General Election ballot ONLY IF:

      1. He drops out prior to the 2nd Monday in July, and 2. His replacement is named by the 4th Monday in July.

I think we are seeing the unfolding of a plan by the Dem. establishment OUTSIDE of Maine to begin a drumbeat for Platner to exit the race after the primary, and let the Party hand-pick a replacement for the General.

Pro-Tip — always read state law to figure out that plan that might be in the process of being hatched behind closed doors.

      • Former politician and syndicated talk radio guy (with pretty good political connections) Erick Erickson says that’s the plan. Dem bigwigs won’t spend anything on him, or try to counter Republicans (maybe even aid them, sub-rosa), and then force him out after the primary so they can put in a less-loony candidate of their choosing for the general elction.
Of course, with Susan Collins in place, they wouldn’t gain all that much by swapping in a democrat in the seat.

        • And then they’ll argue, “See? We got rid of our sexual deviant/predator politician, but the Republicans won’t get rid of their rapist/pedophile 34-felony President.”

It’s all backroom deals and spun narratives.

  3. “Platner’s Texts with Women Concerned Campaign as Race Took Off,” reads the New York Times headline. I think that’s called “burying the lede,” right? That is, “to fail to emphasize the most important part of a story or account.” So, none of this is about this candidate’s character or qualifications, it’s about the challenges of being a political operative. The mind boggles.

  4. Regarding the wife’ lament, I bet it will secure for Platner the overly empathetic vote, which comprises a large percentage of Democratic women voters. They’re the ones who feel bad for murderous gang members in the country illegally who are rounded up by ICE.

  5. Maine, being a tiny state population-wise, doesn’t do much political polling. Even so, I have a really hard time believing that Platner has as much support in the state as it might seem – the National Dems have been pushing him hard, but the rank-and-file Dem in the state would tend to vote for Platner only if there was no other choice.

And there is: Susan Collins, who has successfully defended her seat numerous times in a state that skews increasingly blue (Thanks, Massachusetts! Thanks, Covid!).

Maine certainly has its share of loonie Left, much of which has figured out how to suck off the federal and state teat in Augusta. But it’s far from as bonkers a state as California or Massachusetts.

It now appears as if the national Dems have realized that the Overton window hasn’t shifted far enough in Maine to make Platner a realistic choice to defeat Collins – and, as noted above, Maine law allows the party to replace him (the state’s AG, who IS loony left and is running for governor, has a big say in this).

So here comes soon-to-be ex-Governor Janet Mills, who is termed out of the Blaine House and had previously “suspended” her own run at the D nomination for Senate because she basically ran out of money. Dollars to donuts that Platner falls on his sword – or commits Arkancide – and the party pulls the switcheroo and Mills becomes the D standard bearer.

Mind you, Mills is AWFUL. Maine has an immigrant fraud program as serious as Minnesota’s, just nowhere near on the same scale. She’s not openly socialist but a look at her policies would suggest (ahem) a lot of sympathy for that approach. In other words, she’s really no better than Platner, but one helluva lot less cringe-y. And she COULD take Collins down.

Maine’s media is almost completely dominated by leftists, including a leftist foundation that runs four of the state’s five daily newspapers (the fifth gets several million a year in “ad buys” from the state government. The TV stations don’t want to rock the boat.

The other wrinkle is that Maine uses Ranked Choice Voting, and I FULLY expect to see Dems exploit that pig-in-a-poke to the Nth degree.

I imagine this is going to be the most expensive Senate race in Maine history, not by a little, and that 90% of the money will come from out of state.

    • To underscore that point about outside dollars, I am in SC and just got this from Mr. Platner:

Lowering My Ask – Graham Platner It’s Graham Platner, the Marine Corps veteran & Democrat running for U.S. Senate against Susan Collins here in Maine. Here’s the situation: We’re still short of our $100,000 fundraising goal and what we need to defeat Susan Collins. So I’m trying something a little bit different. Our campaign is lowering the amount we’re asking you to give to just $1. Seriously – just $1. Can you chip in just $1 monthly right now to help me defeat Susan Collins, flip Maine blue, and take back the Senate for Democrats? https://go.grahamforsenate.com/05295 A single dollar isn’t much. I know that. But it’s not just about your $1 – it’s about all of us. When your $1 is combined with tens of thousands of other people also chipping in a dollar to help us fight back against the Super PACs and AIPAC, the impact is huge. $1 because Susan Collins is the most vulnerable Republican senator in the country. $1 because a brand-new poll shows us narrowly in the lead. $1 because the GOP Super PACs are spending millions attacking me on TV. $1 because we are building the largest organizing & field operation the state of Maine has ever seen. And $1 because we can fight for big things like Medicare for All, stop taxpayer-funded genocide, take on the oligarchy, and protect our democracy from fascism – but we can only do it together. We need to raise $100,000 before our fundraising deadline at midnight tonight – but right now, we’re still short. The only way we can win & defeat Susan Collins is with your $1 donation now: So please, will you chip in $1 monthly right now to our campaign – more if you can! – and help me defeat Susan Collins, flip Maine blue, and take back the Senate for Democrats? https://go.grahamforsenate.com/05295 People like you play a critical role in our campaign and in this fight. I am so grateful to have you alongside me. In solidarity, Graham Platner Stop2End

    • So here comes soon-to-be ex-Governor Janet Mills, who is termed out of the Blaine House and had previously “suspended” her own run at the D nomination for Senate because she basically ran out of money.

Is Janet Mills still on the ballot for the primary? That would give the Democrat options?

Here is an interesting article from PJ Media that argues that the latest scandal was broken by the Democrats late May in order to prevent the scandal to be broken in October. Key quote:

At stake is nothing less than control of the U.S. Senate.

Which means, between now and July 13, the Dems are highly incentivized to publicize ALL the Platner scandals they’re aware of, because one of two things will happen:

      1. Graham Platner drops out in shame and is replaced by a DNC establishment favorite who’s safer, fully vetted, and more likely to win (and follow orders).
      2. Graham Platner stays on the ballot, but because the scandal(s) dropped in May/June, it’ll be “old news” by the first Tuesday of November.

      https://pjmedia.com/scott-pinsker/2026/06/01/dirty-trick-alert-the-real-reason-why-the-latest-graham-platner-scandal-broke-now-and-not-in-october-n4953458

Scott Pinsker predicts that the Maine Democrats may follow the example of the Virginia Democrats on AG Jay Jones after his awful tweets came out: how your nose and vote him in office anyway.

In other words, this is going to be a very interesting election.
