Oh, NOW Platner Isn’t An Acceptable Candidate? [Updated]

Exactly a month ago, I wrote “I Would Say Graham Platner Poses An Integrity Test For Democrats, Except They Have Already Flunked.” From that post…

“The fact that the Democratic Party is rallying around an unequivocal scumbag like Graham Platner is damning. So desperate is our aspiring totalitarian party to pack the Supreme Court, add automatic Democratic states like Puerto Rico and D.C. to the stars on the flag, open the borders and lock up their political opponents that they are willing to betray their duty to the political system not to present untrustworthy candidates to voters. It doesn’t matter that Platner, about to be nominated as a Senate candidate in Maine, is a liar, a Nazi admirer, a serial sexual offender and has no qualifications for office.”

But for some reason Platner being accused of “rape rape” (in Whoopi Goldberg’s immortal parlance) is too much. What a ridiculous, repellent, disgusting party the Democrats have become! Now, after the latest revelations, previous supporters of this unequivocal scumbag are running for their lives like the rats on board the Titanic.

“I’ve been very clear that sexual assault or violence against women is a red line. These allegations are very serious and credible. Graham Platner should drop out from the race. I am withdrawing my endorsement,” tweeted Rep. Ro Khanna, who is quite a scumbag in his own right. Democrat Arizona Rep. Ruben Gallego wrote, “The allegations against Graham Platner are troubling and deeply serious. I am rescinding my endorsement.”

Wait, the earlier established facts about Platner weren’t troubling and serious? Democratic anti-gun hysteric David Hogg also withdrew his Platner endorsement today. So did Hollywood Democratic Party lackey Jon Favreau. Finally, The Maine Democrat Party has called for Platner to withdraw from the race.

George Will would call this “condign justice.” Nelson Muntz would say “Ha Ha!” And I channel Connie Corleone when I say, “That’s your party! That’s your party!” No one should let these hypocrites escape accountability for their open contempt for ethics, decency, voters, Maine, Congress or the Republic. Platner’s unfitness for office was already undeniable before Jenny Racicot accused him of rape, but Democrats were willing to hold their noses, cover their eyes and inflict him on the nation anyway. Never mind Platner, this tells us all we need to know about their character, their trustworthiness and their fitness to govern.

  1. Schadenfreude is an ugly emotion. It also happens to be one of my favorites.

The thing I find most interesting here is that the story broke in Politico – which is obviously aligned with the mainstream Democrat Party. So my supposition here is that the D power structure has decided that 1) Platner is a bridge too far right, and 2) could be a useful object lesson to the DSA types currently gaining headlines that it’s a bad idea to get above their raisin’, as the old country song put it.

So who replaces him? There are three obvious candidates. One is Janet Mills, Maine’s current (and term-limited) governor. She dropped out of the Senate race months ago. She’s an old-school D hack but aligned with the D gerentocracy. OTOH, she’s presided over massive corruption and a serious refugee and fraud problem. Not hugely popular.

The second is Shenna Bellows. Bellows is currently Secretary of State for Maine. She ran for governor and was the first one booted under the Ranked Choice Voting system the state uses. I am acquainted…. we were on opposite sides of an issues campaign I was working on back in the early Aughts. Bellows is smart, glib, and telegenic. I had her on my radio show a few times years ago, and she was always an interesting guess. I would have a beer with her any time, but I wouldn’t trust her half as far as I could throw a Peterbilt. Apparently, much of the state feels the same way, given her failed previous run for the Blaine House. In case anyone needs reminding, Bellows was the driver of Maine’s attempt to disqualify Trump from the Maine ballot in 2024, a bid she dropped when SCOTUS told Colorado it couldn’t do that.

The third possibility is Nirav Shah. He’s an epidemiologist who was in that office for the state during the pandemic. As draconian an approach as happened anywhere. An affable, pleasant enough man in many ways. Also something of a Trojan horse. Interestingly, he ran for Governor in the current cycle, but even though he came in first in the primary balloting, he was subsequently bounced by Hannah Pingree thanks to vote redistribution.

Hannah Pingree is the daughter of Maine First CD Representative Chellie Pingree – another part of the old-skool D regime in the state.

From my perspective, Shah probably has the best shot at unseating Collins – if he goes for the slot.

Buh-bye, Mr. Platner. It has been entertaining, if nothing else.

And I mourn for the state where I generated so many wonderful memories.

  2. As Jack suggested, this whole thing seems like an orchestrated take-down, one of the Dems’ specialties. Just in time. What a bunch of slime balls.
