He hasn’t received as much attention as Graham Platner because 1) he has no chance of winning, and 2) so far, no prominent Republicans who aren’t known lunatics have endorsed him. (Rep. Lauren Boebert has. Of course she has…). However, to call Victor Marx, who won the Republican primary for governor in Colorado, the Republican Graham Platner isn’t far-fetched at all.
Here are some “highlights” of this guy:
- A supporter and associate of the late Charlie Kirk, Marx is a right-wing “influencer.” He has about three million followers on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and X, where he likes to post videos of himself disarming people holding fake guns.
- He is the founder of All Things Possible ministries, which he has claimed rescued more than 40,000 women and children from abuse, though the number can’t be substantiated.
- Platner had said he was a communist. This guy’s father was named Karl Marx.
- He has made a lot of dubious claims, such as that he once was in a gun battle with ISIS. He has also claimed that he can perform exorcisms over the phone. Cool!
- Marx served for three years in the United States Marine Corps ,which he said he joined to avoid prosecution for fighting, theft and drug use.
- Marx has been arrested at least twice for disorderly conduct.
- In 2023, Marx’s brother-in-law shot at Marx, who was not hit. The brother-in-law is currently awaiting trial for allegedly murdering his girlfriend .
- Before entering politics, Marx ran a Christian martial arts school.
Marx also was the target of another Michelle Goldberg deceit column, this one with the deliberately deceptive headline, “He Says He Killed a Man. Republicans Nominated Him Anyway.” The headline refers to an unsubstantiated story Marx tells, claiming that at age seven, his abusive stepfather took him to a rural area in Mendenhall, Mississippi, and made him shoot and kill someone. The victim has never been identified.
I think we can agree on this, however: both parties need to stop nominating res ipsa loquitur whack jobs for national positions of trust, and citizens need to stop voting for them.
It is irresponsible and unethical to inflict these lying, unstable, untrustworthy people on the rest of the country, especially voters who take their civic duties seriously. We don’t deserve this. The nation doesn’t deserve this. The Founders don’t deserve this either.
Ethics Alarms 
The primary was a South Park episode choice (remember giant douche vs turd sandwich). The two other candidates were a mainstream conservative (who we voted for) and a state senator whose campaign slogan was “its time” (because CO has never had a female governor and she had the requisite parts).
Problem in CO is that the Front Range (the I-25 corridor from Ft. Collins, through Boulder and Denver, into Colorado Springs contains roughly 3/4 of the state’s population. Those of us on the Western Slope (us) or the Eastern Plains kinda get screwed over.
Maybe we could join Utah? The state line is only 30 miles away, and our city is 25% LDS…
I was actually hoping the lady parts would work on her side. She at least had “fix the roads” as a goal. It doesn’t matter, no super religious candidate will be Governor here. PS I too would be happy to annex into Kansas or Nebraska. Or reconsider the 51st state concept. Alas…. we will just keep pretending while they yell about the environment while clearly building in unsustainable areas. (For the non western state readers- this means water. Colorado doesn’t have enough to support the population, current industrial and casual use, think golf courses and watering lawns, livestock and the 100+ year old water treaties with other states, particularly in years like this where it’s been very dry.)

We northern hicks think you Greenies are crazy, but I agree that for the most part, the issues come up the I-25 corridor from the towns mentioned. Ugh, Boulder. Western Colorado isn’t that different from us or Utah.
Not wanting to join your neighbors to the North? We almost got Nebraska’s panhandle a few decades back.
I’d be happy with any surrounding state but New Mexico. Not sure they aren’t doing worse as a state.
As a fellow western slope resident, I too would prefer to join Utah at this point. Western slope Colorado is largely ignored by the Eastern slope.

Agreed. But I do understand the outcome. Hopefully I never have to, but I’d vote for one of these idiots rather than for a bona fide communist like Mamdani. He and his ilk are gaining way to much ground and power. They cannot be dismissed.

And the alternatives – Bottoms was boring, and Kirkmeyer had far too much Dolores Umbridge energy. At least i’m hoping for a few entertaining attack ads this way.
