Wow. I see they’ve erased the Karankawas and the Tonkawas. Talk about quietly hinting at ethnic cleansing. Pretty unrepresentative of all tribes, favoring a privileged few who *outlasted* the rest (sort of).
Exactly what “slice” of time are we basing this off of? Plenty of tribal histories recount living in entirely different parts of North America before they were either violently displaced by other tribes or they chose to violently displace other tribes while migrating.
They definitely would *NOT* be “United” given that they were exactly as prone to internecine violence as the Old World ‘tribes’ were, with the culturally diverse smattering of a few of them being avid practitioners of cannibalism.
They definitely would *NOT* be “States” as they never even got past proto-empires in the places they established ‘cities’ and the rest mostly giving up on centralized static settlements, the cities from which we get the idea of civilization.
Why is there a dot over a capitalized letter “i”?
While conquest isn’t exactly “illegal immigration”, it’s probably not preferred. But it was inevitable and it was also 400-500 years ago into a ‘political’ environment that was fundamentally built around tribes arbitrarily moving in and establishing themselves, with the various European ‘tribes’ just another player on that landscape.
I only see this meme as yawn-worthy. How long has the left been beating us over the head with this? Yes, the Indians were here before Columbus arrived. Yes, the Indians were conquered by the Europeans who had superior technology and also unintentionally brought illnesses that they had long ago become immune to. Yes, they were very quickly displaced as the dominant people in the Americas. We know. This isn’t the same as sneaking past the border of a modern nation in violation of laws and we all know it.
What is more, a lot of this was all hashed out for the umpteenth time six years ago, piggybacking on the killing of a lifetime crook and hoodlum who died at the hands of a crazy but not racist cop while resisting arrest and high as a kite. I’m not ready to rehash it again, thanks.
Of course, the same people who spreads this meme also claim that Europe has a duty to admit hordes of migrant rapists instead of saying it is okay for Europe to machine gun them down en masse.
It is almost as if indigeounity is not the basis for their beliefs.
They are also the same people who think that the Holy Family heading to another loosely-governed part of the Roman Empire is the same as people sneaking across the U.S. border today.
I don’t think any of those tribes would be here either. Some of those tribes only predate Columbus by a few hundred years. Only recently have researchers seriously begun to study the history and prehistory of this hemisphere. They have found that human habitation of this hemisphere far predates what they thought and involved many more waves of settlement than they previously believed. One really chilling finding is the DNA studies. They mostly see that most waves of conquest resulted in the previous inhabitants being completely exterminated. Their DNA chain just ends. No intermarriage, no taking of captives as wives, just all dead.
The Cherokee are in that location because of an invasion from Mexico that wiped out all the inhabitants up the Missisippi corridor. Only the arrival of the Cherokee from the West, allying themselves with the surviving tribes in Ohio, etc beat them back. The Cherokee then settled the now vacant territory.
The Precolumbian population in what is now Guatemala may have been 5-10 million people. It is only about 20 million today. This hemisphere may have had a population of over 100 million people, most of whom had disappeared by 1492. The Amazon rain forest is the remnant of orchards that had existed for several thousand years supporting numerous cities connected by a sophisticated road network (roads up to 45 feet wide). At the time of Rome, it appears that Western Hemisphere civilization rivaled the size, sophistication, and road network of Rome. This orchard system and the vast fields of maize in South America had disappeared along with the cities and civilizations they supported by the time of European conquest. The Europeans moved into the vacuum. The question that is unanswered is what happened to these rather advanced civilizations.
It is to the great shame of history and archeology that this field of study was left untouched for so long.
What is lost on this meme’s enthusiastic supporters is that by claiming the title “United States” there is a presumptive colonialistic implication which assumes the included tribes would unite and ignores the fact that what resulted in the unity was an analysis and synthesis of a new form of government from the long arc of Greek, Roman and European political history with a good helping of Judea/Christian influence.
Why can’t the Left treat this whole “land acknowledgment” mess much like it wants us to treat President Clinton’s White House dating practices, or the revelations of President Biden’s complete incompetence, or Boy Biden’s laptop, or the discovery that Hillary Clinton was behind the Russia Collusion Hoax, or Fauci’s lies about Wuhan, or…

That’s odd. Why haven’t terminally offended White Lefties DEMANDED that Sioux City IA, Sioux Falls, SD, the Big Sioux River, and ALL the other Sioux named entities be summarily CANCELED…?

That’s what they told us when we were visiting the area some years back. They’re also still ticked off about being driven out of Minnesota, Wisconsin, etc. by eastern tribes.
The map looks more like a tool for identifying who owns the casinos in those areas, or at least who owns the portion the mob lets them have.
I bet they wish they took immigration enforcement better! Let’s learn from their mistake and not repeat it ourselves.
The least they can do is add all the tribes. I am personally aware of several that aren’t mentioned and that means there are likely dozens if not hundreds of tribes not mentioned.
Where are the Seminoles? Florida is empty. I see the Miami, but only up in Ohio. I thought they were driven into Florida by Andrew Jackson.
Exactly. Kiowa, Yuma, Arickaree and others roamed on the high plains into the Rockies, and those are just the ones I’m aware of with a bit of research I could like my find many more just in the high plains region.
For example, the Florida tribes haven’t been mentioned at all.
Who gets to claim first? There were three major initial migrations across the Bering land bridge, and most of them moved south on their own, or were pushed south by subsequent migrations. Only a few groups in the Americas, like in Tierra del Fuego (no place left to get displaced to), Andes, remote Amazon, were truly “aboriginal” before Europeans.
Where are the Kanaka Maoli Native Hawaiians shown?
And wouldn’t the country as shown also exclude all the current illegal aliens? And all people of color, like, oh, say, the descendants of slaves, and Somalis and Palestinians and Turks and Indians and Puerto Ricans?
