Lame duck Senator Bill Cassidy (R-La.) made perhaps the most stupid comment in support of Blanche. He said that after much consideration, he had come to believe that Blanche, who had served as the president’s personal lawyer, would be better positioned to push back against Trump’s demands than an alternative. Riiiight. Because Trump’s personal lawyers are so competent and trustworthy. Like Michael Cohen.

Oh, I almost forgot. “There Are So Many Reasons to Reject Todd Blanche. Here’s Another One.” The author’s argument amounts to 1) “under Blanche the Justice Department hasn’t been undermining the President” like the Deep State Justice Department he was a proud part of, 2) “it’is practicing lawfare (unlike Merrick Garland’s totalitarian Justice Department, which targeted conservatives and, of course, Trump), and its cases were rejected (by partisan judges and D.C. grand juries, which will only indict ham sandwiches that are Republicans.)

Some of Ankush Khardori’s points are well taken, sort of. The prosecution of James Comey for his shell game was indeed absurd and is a legitimate example of AG incompetence. However, Comey was a true Deep State operative who lied to Congress and leaked to the press. He should be held accountable, but has not been. True, as the author says, “federal judges across the country have in effect accused department attorneys of squandering the trust and credibility their predecessors had built up over decades.” Then again, Federal judges haven’t exactly covered themselves in glory either.

It is also true that “Justice Department lawyers have had to correct factual misrepresentations they made to judges, apologize for failing to meet deadlines and retract their own legal positions. ” One reason for this is that the Department legitimately chased away partisan lawyers like Khardori, and the talent pool among conservative lawyers is very thin, thanks to the hard left bias of the entire legal profession. Khardori mocks the department for trying to convict a man accused of assault for throwing a Subway sandwich at a federal agent. He should have been convicted. I guess the theory is if you assault a federal officer with something that sounds funny enough, it isn’t a crime.

Details, details. Ultimately, I agree with the essay’s conclusion, if not its twisted road to getting there. Todd Blanche should be rejected.
