“Gee, I Wonder Why We Haven’t Had a Female President Yet” [ A Continuing Series ]

I was tempted to make this another Res Ipsa Loquitur post.

Jeez, will somebody tell her? Nobody wants to hear anyone shouting and screaming like that into a microphone, but it is especially unappealing when a woman does it. It’s shrill, its undignified, and it’s ugly. Her voice cracks, and she’s acting unhinged.

I posted about the impediments to women getting elected President in November of 2025 after the New York Times Gail Collin’s wrote a column titled, “Where, oh Where, Will the First Female President Come From?” The lament would have been more plaintive if she hadn’t been reacting to Kamala Harris’s defeat, which was less due to the candidate being female than it was due to her being a cackling, incoherent idiot.

I wrote in part,

“The first female President is likely to come from a new template of female leadership that does not require that a credible female leader seem as unfeminine as possible and fit the male stereotypes of what a President looks like. That process will take time. Women have not been drawn to politics long enough or in substantial numbers until relatively recently. The talent pool still isn’t very large or deep. Men have a lead of a couple of centuries. Of course, it will only take one break-through female leader to change the template quickly and permanently. It’s too bad that Sigourney Weaver wasn’t interested in politics.”

In the first installment of what I fear will be a long-running series, I focused on all the high-ranking women in government who had disgraced themselves recently, including three female members of Trump’s Cabinet. I ended that post by writing, “I have theories about why our system and culture doesn’t produce competent and trustworthy female leaders in sufficient numbers, as well as why those it does produce tend to be corrupt and incompetent power-abusers. I will leave those theories for another day.”

Those theories are still for another day, but the fact that so many female politicians are wretched public speakers who don’t know how to modulate their voices, where to place it in their heads (think chest, ladies), and the basics of presentation, is a major impediment.

    • George w Bush would have roasted Howard Dean on a spit. He carried himself like a wrestling coach and that got old really fast. The left is hoping for a president like was portrayed in the rather short-lived series Commander in Chief, who could improvise perfect speeches on a moment’s notice, order the military around, put foreign leaders in their place with a good talking to, and save liberals around the world with perfectly executed rescue operations. Unfortunately, someone like that only exists in the minds of television writers.

I suppose writers like that are more stable than the stuff you see on threads, where someone made a post that they didn’t want to see Trump impeached, they wanted to see him tried for treason, convicted, and executed on the White House lawn, like this is revolutionary France where anyone could get the chop for any reason or no reason. Of course Robespierre himself did eventually get the chop.

      • Note the the star of that series was Geena Davis, who is 6 feet tall (you know, like the average male POTUS) and a professional film performer (you know, like Ronald Reagan.) The last line of that excerpt from my previous post was “It’s too bad that Sigourney Weaver wasn’t interested in politics.” Weaver is also six feet tall, which was one reason why I referenced her—the other is that she became famous playing a leadership role (In “Alien”) originally written for a man.

        And where have YOU been?

        • Correct and correct. Unfortunately, the writing was just so ponderous that the series sank under its own weight. Oh, I’ve been around. Unfortunately, Chatgpt’s ability to produce pictures, something I have zero talent for myself, is a bit addictive, although sometimes they have glaring errors and have to be binned.

  1. Joni Ernst might manage it, if she wanted to, with her military background and senate experience. She also isn’t obviously crazy. I’ve heard her speak on ag topics on the radio.

  2. Margaret Thatcher was a successful prime minister who was able to appeal to conservative men. Golda Meir was beloved prime minister of Israel. So there are examples of successful leadership of women in democratic countries in the last hundred years.

A lot of man are looking at the prominent women in the Democrat party, and they all look like their wife’s divorce attorney who is going to take them to the cleaners in family court. They repel men by the way they talk and act. Hillary Clinton’s nickname was Shrillary for a reason.

Being perceived as shrill may also be one reason for the existence of a glass ceiling in the workplace. I do not think that is entirely fair, but I think there is something to it.

But this type of presentation may appeal to young and single women.

  3. Is she acting unhinged, or is she unhinged? I have seen this on a lot of social media posts. This seems to be what women view as persuasive speaking. Yes, it looks unhinged to men. Yes, most of opinions delivered this way seem to be unhinged. However, they do seem to be popular with a lot of women. Are a lot of women unhinged? A lot seem to be taking to social media to state for the world that they are walking a razor’s edge between being a dutiful mother and murdering their children. I would take that as unhinged. So, maybe she is unhinged and so are all her supporters.

    • That is my concern after watching the Clancy fiasco. There are other women calling them out, but can you imagine a bunch of dudes making videos in support of the guy that murdered his kids in South Carolina?

Women have to stop being given a pass for this outrageous behavior. If I was dating a woman and she did “same Lindsay,” I would break up with her immediately.

  4. She seems to be trying to get the crowd to join in the “You can’t buy Ohio” chant but it doesn’t sound like she was successful. She should have told her team to start chanting with her.
