Not California!
Paving Paradise, a research analysis study of the loss of California’s agricultural and natural land due to rapid population growth found that 91% of land development since 1970 is a consequence of uncontrolled “immigration,” aka. illegal immigration.
California, a so-called sanctuary state, has the highest concentration of illegal immigrants in the United States, which shouldn’t surprise anyone. Over 400,000 entered the state between 2021 and 2023 during the Biden administration. Because population of California has doubled over the past five decades, 3,740 miles of California’s farmland, forests, wetlands and open spaces have had to be paved over to accommodate the all the lonely people, and we know where they all come from. 2.4 million acres of land, an area three times larger than Yosemite National Park, have been consumed. The overpopulation contributes to water shortages, loss of wildlife, more wildfires, traffic congestion, rising housing costs in the state, researchers found.
To be fair, at least there are more murders, rapes, and other felonies. And twenty-four million former California residents have legally migrated to other states to flee the effects of the open borders, so it all evens out in the end.

One of Victor Davis Hanson’s constant refrains is the devastation the Mexicans have visited and continue to visit upon the California agrarian landscape. Conservation is not a forte of shithole countries.
The lack of respect for “the land” and what properly-tended land gives us is how shithole countries get to be shithole countries. And then the people doing the damage run off to someplace else to ruin.
Interesting, however, is that the new housing (and related supporting commercial development) is not occupied by the illegals…. it is occupied by those who allowed the influx of illegal immigrants and are fleeing the cities where the illegals are landing.
And the folks most likely to advocate loudly and aggressively for the environment are the same people who want open borders and a defunded ICE. Morons and hypocrites.
And the folks most likely to advocate loudly and aggressively for raising the minimum wage (a living wage) are the same people who hire illegal nannies, domestic helps, and gardeners who all get paid under the table below minimum wage, keeping impoverished American citizens out of a legal minimum wage job.

My answer to that question is the condemnation of original sin of pre civil rights racist white supremacy by those whose condemnation treats that racism and the guilt thereof as an inheritance implicitly confered indefinitely to all of-non-color progeny this fulfilling humanities curse to… “do terrible things while feeling intensely moral, justified, and righteous.”
To do terrible things meaning to brainwash generations of of-color children to perpetuate revenge racism.
