Ethics Villain: Arlington County (VA) Commonwealth’s Attorney Parisa Dehghani-Tafti

Dehghani-Tafti admitted that her office considers immigration status when determining case outcomes and that written guidelines allow considering immigration status for any crime. This is an effort to circumvent the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services provision that classifies a DUI conviction as a “significant misdemeanor” which halts DACA recipients from renewing that status and automatically triggers deportation. The unethical memo tells prosecutors to consider DACA status to avoid “disproportionate and devastating collateral consequences.”

Funny: I consider getting hit by a car driven by an illegal immigrant sanctified by Democrats a disproportionate and devastating collateral consequence.

The conduct of the office and Dehghani-Tafti is part of Virginia’s “sanctuary state” defiance of federal law. Arlington’s official board Trust Policy rules governing local law enforcement. prohibits the Arlington County Police Department “from initiating contact with federal immigration authorities” even when an illegal alien is identified as a “violent felon, gang member, human trafficker, or terrorist.”

Nice.

It’s not up to Arlington officials to decide whether Federal law enforcement results in Arlington County Prosecutor Policy “disproportionate collateral consequences.” DUI is a particularly despicable crime to shrug off because the criminals are illegal immigrants, but, you know, the good kind. Driving drunks kill people. The U.S. has a legitimate interest in making sure only drunk citizens kill people, but Arlington’s head prosecutor believes that citizens should be treated more harshly by the legal system than illegals.

Ethics Villain.

Matthew Hurtt, chairman of the Arlington County Republican Committee, accused county officials of “prioritiz[ing] illegal aliens over the safety of Arlington residents.” I’d say that’s fair; that’s the policy of the entire Democratic Party. “It is not the job of a prosecutor to decide lenience against illegal aliens who are oftentimes committing violent crimes against individuals or property crimes, but that is exactly what Arlington Commonwealth’s Attorney Parisa Dehghani-Tafti has been doing,” Hurtt added. Also fair.

So far, you will search in vain, as I did, to find any mention of Parisa Dehghani-Tafti’s damning testimony in the national mainstream media outside of Fox News. Geewhatasurpriseiwonderwhy. As the mid-terms approach, we can expect any developments that might make a significant number of responsible and sane Democrats slap their foreheads and say, “Wait! How can I possibly vote for this lunatic party?” to be embargoed, buried, distorted or spun.

Here’s the first comment on the local NBC news affiliate’s report on Dehghani-Tafti fickery:

“Incompetent criminal president trump and administration white supremacists agenda. Republicans complicit lies. All Jeffrey Epstein’s files now.”

Sounds like one of my Facebook Friends…

  1. So, let me get this straight: Good illegal immigrants now include drunk drivers. How far do they go in alleviating the disproportionate penalties? Do they only get to plead down if they are caught driving drunk? What about getting in an accident that harms only themselves and their property? How about only hitting public property with no human injuries? Hitting another driver or pedestrian? Killing another driver or pedestrian? Killing a white driver or pedestrian instead of a gay or black pedestrian? What happens if another illegal alien is hit or killed?

Seriously, at what point does a drunk illegal alien become a criminal?

  2. Is DACA the only law that didn’t have to pass through both houses of Congress? It comprehensively altered immigration law, but it never passed the Senate. It technically is an executive order, but an executive order that instructs DHS to change the law. Now, Trump tried to repeal that executive order, but was told he couldn’t because (1) the district court didn’t agree that it should be repealed and (2) that is was so sweepingly changed the law that he couldn’t repeal it. Although multiple courts found it to be illegal or unconstitutional, they also blocked it repeal by executive order.
