A: Because its staff is lazy, inattentive and irresponsible.
The cable business news network posted this press release from the natural foods and nutrition huckster group, The Weston A. Price Foundation.
It isn’t news. It is poison. The press release makes the false claim that vaccinations spread measles, as well as other diseases. This is standard anti-vaxx hysteria, and it gets children killed. It is false. “Measles live vaccine doesn’t transmit easily at all,” said Dr. Jane Seward of the CDC’s Division of Viral Diseases told NBC, which apparently doesn’t communicate with its subsidiaries. “I don’t think there has ever been a secondary transmission,” she added. “There is no evidence of any transmission of measles virus from a child to household contacts.” As for the Foundation itself:
“The Weston A. Price Foundation is a nonprofit, tax-exempt charity founded in 1999 to disseminate the research of nutrition pioneer Dr. Weston Price, whose studies of isolated nonindustrialized peoples established the parameters of human health and determined the optimum characteristics of human diets. Dr. Price’s research demonstrated that humans achieve perfect physical form and perfect health generation after generation only when they consume nutrient-dense whole foods and the vital fat-soluble activators found exclusively in animal fats….
Yes, it is strange, like Dr. Price’s theories, and not in a benign way. Among the foundation’s other objectives is to show that vaccinations are unnecessary if you eat right, or something: when a home page prominently displays a link that reads, COD LIVER OIL: Our Most Important Superfood, my eyes tend to gloss over, I file the group under “Nut Balls” and move on.
CNBC posted this promotional piece uncritically and without context, leaving the impression that it was actual news, thus allowing fake news to go to the top of Google searches for gullible readers. At the bottom of the screen it says “More from CNBC” and not “More from health food hyping anti-science fanatics.“
Meanwhile, over at ABC, I am informed that late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel is getting hosannas and kudos for slamming the anti-vaccination movement and parents that fall for its lies. That makes him better than Jenny McCarthy, but here’s the ethics problem: Kimmel also advocates parents engaging in child abuse for the fun of it. His judgment is suspect; his common sense is suspect; his ethics aren’t even suspect: they stink. Cognitive dissonance rules: if I have to stand shoulder to shoulder with a guy who persuades parents to make their kids cry so he can show funny videos, I’m choosing another cause, thanks. Kimmel can become a credible vaccination warrior when he stops being an ethics corrupter. As it stands right now, Jimmy Kimmel has no standing or credibility when he calls parents out for being irresponsible. He sent out his “community activist team” the streets with a petition in support of “a child’s right to choose,” asking parents, “Is there anything else you’ve injected your child with, besides betrayal?” Funny, except that Kimmel entices parents to wrap up an old sneaker and make their 6 year old think its his birthday present so that America can howl along with Jimmy at the child’s disappointment. What is that, if not betrayal?
OK, Jimmy’s child abuse doesn’t kill anyone.
Whoopie. Rationalization #22.
He will become an effective voice for vaccination when he stops being a hypocrite.
Q: Does Jimmy Kimmel care enough about the issue to give up a funny bit?
A: Don’t ask.

Thank you.
This is the same network that gave Al Sharpton his own program.
No, that’s MSNBC. This one is supposed to be respectable.
Sorry, Jack, but I’m still on the fence. Número uno, I do not trust the CDC when it comes to ACCURATE REPORTING of U.S. Health/disease stats. Here’s why… https://jonrappoport.wordpress.com/2015/03/04/jimmy-kimmel-quoted-me-so-heres-more-on-vaccines/
Blow me down but I believe this guy is on to something.
The only thing he is ONTO is his own self-aggrandizement. There is NO SCIENTIFIC basis for his assertions, no credible research backing it up and no LEGITIMATE reason to believe him.
So, I should believe you instead. Credentials, please.
One doesn’t need credentials for this issue, just basic biology class knowledge and common sense.
My God in heaven, is there any way to stop these dingbats? This is…is…is…CRIMINAL! Does the scientific method hold no modern weight at all? I am speechless…and Michelle Bachman endorses this CRAP.
I AM NOT a Digngbat, although I play one on TV.
I am a naturopathic medical student and while I agree with you that the notion of a vaccine leading to transmission is unlikely (I found your site looking for a Snopes insight into the cnbc article.), I have read Weston Price’s original text from the 30’s and I would highly encourage you to do so before you slander this brilliant man’s far-before-his-time thinking and methodical research. The research behind a nutrient dense, whole foods, unprocessed and sans added sugar diet is well backed by conventional research standards. He took children during the depression and started feeding then nutrient rich foods along with cod liver oil and pasture butter (for the verified vitamin A and D content) and had remarkable improvements in all parameters of health, best documented being the effect on teeth as he was, after all, a dentist. Please don’t glaze over the next time you read about cod liver oil. Perhaps it would help prevent your future cancer or arthritis.

Then he went to primitive people and applied confirmation bias. This happens a lot. He had an importnat idea, then went from being a scientist and innovator to being a zealot and therefore a quack. It’s the usual course: many quacks have an initial inspiration with value.
He also died in 1948, and his Foundation uses his name to undermine science that came after him. That’s not his fault. Let’s say he was quackified post mortem.
Thanks for a valuable comment.
Let’s do some real research. The key words are “isolated, non-industrialized peoples.” Are their life spans longer than we in the industrialized west? If they are, could it be that they are, in fact, ISOLATED from the rest of the world and its diseases and environment? Frankly, I’d like to see the stats on the average life span of “isolated, non-industrialized” peoples.” The Neanderthals lived about 40 years on average — they were isolated, non-industrialized people too.
So why doesn’t the term “isolated” jump out at you at all? Why would anything that “works” with isolated,non-industrialized people also work with we who are not? Think, for God’s sake.
To be fair, I do believe that some non-Western medicines and therapies (Chinese,e.g.) which are just gaining credence in the US and elsewhere are at least good adjuncts to the medicine generally practiced now.
But here’s the big question: What would Price say (or have said) about the polio vaccine????? How would he account for the thousands and thousands of child deaths from polio in the 1950s if there hadn’t been a vaccine THAT WAS USED BY LAW to protect those children?
I have seen the media over zealously DEFEND vaccines as well. A local station interviewed a women who “chose” not to vaccinate her children BECAUSE THEY LEGITIMATELY HAD A BAD REACTION!
They then lumped this poor women in with the anti-vaccination nuts, calling her part of the “small” but growing movement of parents who reject vaccination. Never mind that this woman’s family was PRECISELY the population harmed by the irresponsible, ethically dense fools who do not vaccinate.
Some people simply cannot safely be vaccinated. That is WHY everyone who safely can MUST. That the media cannot even understand so basic a medical concept, especially when hundreds of doctors are willing to sit down and explain, is the height of incompetence.
You wrote “scene” for seen, a Jack Marshall=style typo! I can’t tell you how happy this makes me!
