As the Political Correctness Amuck/Microaggression/ Racial Trust Breakdown/Free Speech Rejection Higher Education Breakdown continues to spread (I’ve GOT to come up with a snappier name), we are beginning to see the full, ugly results of paying exorbitant fees to have our children indoctrinated by arrogant, leftist, un-American pedants.
The latest symptom: the Minnesota Student Association, which is the undergraduate student government at the University of Minnesota, rejected a resolution for a moment of recognition on future anniversaries of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The reason, according to the principle student advocate against the resolution, was that remembering the date 9/11 “is often used as reasoning for Islamophobia that takes both physical and verbal forms. The passing of this resolution might make a space that is unsafe for students on campus even more unsafe. Islamophobia and racism … are alive and well.”
Great. First it was punishing speech and thought. Now we need to censor history to make students feel “safe.”
Clearly, we shouldn’t commemorate December 7th either [ NOTE: I shamefully confess that the initial version of this post used JANUARY 7, and I have no idea why. I’ve got a doctor’s appointment on Tuesday…], since it may spark unpleasant thoughts about the Japanese. I can’t see any reason why July 4th wouldn’t be similarly provocative. Don’t tell me the dates are different. They are all dates ensuring our remembrance, as a nation, of our shared tragedies, struggles and experiences. They constitute a vital element of preserving the American culture, a demonstration of respect for the dead and their families, and an opportunity to make certain that we never forget that the price of freedom is eternal vigilance, and that American values make all of us a target.
The advocate was at-large MSA representative and Director of Diversity and Inclusion [ Good God…] David Algadi. He demonstrated that the University has not sufficiently taught critical thinking, at least in his case, by his making this fatuous argument:
“In addition there is a particular racial politic present wherein when folks of color do something it becomes a stereotype, when white folks do something it becomes forgotten. Dylann Roof? James Eagan Holmes? Joseph Stack? Timothy McVeigh? When will we start having moments of silence for all of the times white folks have done something terrible?”
Can we count all the logical fallacies in that mess? And this argument prevailed. Said Prof. Eugene Volokh, much more nicely than I would have, so I’ll quote him:
“Seems to me that an organized, coordinated act of war by a foreign entity against the United States, which kills 3000 people — the only such massive act of war to touch U.S. soil in the lives of most Americans — is somewhat different than even what Timothy McVeigh did. But I leave it to our readers to decide for themselves.”
I’ve already decided. Algadi can say whatever dumb, ignorant, offensive things he wants to, but he has revealed himself to have a weak mind, as well as a biased view of history that would discourage me from trusting him to walk my dog. In that he places his religion and ethnicity above the nation, society and culture he lives in and benefits greatly from, he is also a rotten citizen, and an idiot as well.
His sentiments don’t defeat anti-Muslim bigotry.

American Lefties and European Lefties, though related, are different enough animals to break the comparison.
European Left & Right bear only some key similarities to American Left & Right, and I’d submit that European & American Left though still different are closer to each other than European & American Right are to each other.

Just curious…are college students in school to actually learn something or do they already know everything? And if they are there to learn, should we not assume that they know very little when first they matriculate? Then why, in God’s name, are we allowing them to run a self-governing body, or even express an opinion, when it is painfully obvious that they have no clue what they are talking about?
The inmates are running the asylum. Which is problematic because they’re spouting stuff they’ve been taught by the corrosive academics, so they get not push back from the adults. The complete befuddlement shown by the adults at colleges is mind boggling.
I definitely agree with that. One single adult willing to tell them “Look, kid, you have no idea what you’re talking about. Sit down and shut up.” would likely put a screeching halt to this blather.
Maybe these guys don’t need to “feel safe”. Maybe they don’t need to be in college, either. Or in this country.
