Facebook, Meet The Slippery Slope. Slippery Slope, Facebook. Public, PAY ATTENTION!

This issue doesn’t need a lot of exposition—I hope, at least not among this enlightened and educated readership— but it is important.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced yesterday that his platform will now block posts and inks that argue that the Holocaust didn’t happen or has been exaggerated. , Facebook  is increasingly a taking action to undermine what it considers  conspiracy theories and misinformation, using the approaching U.S. presidential election as justification.

It isn’t. Facebook is too powerful a platform for public discourse and communication to engage in picking and choosing which opinions and assertions are worthy of being read and heard. In addition, Facebook is not objective, unbiased or trustworthy…or competent. I know this for a fact.

It bans Ethics Alarms. Case closed.

Holocaust survivors around the world have pushed Zuckerberg this summer to remove Holocaust denial posts from the social media site. The effort was coordinated by the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany, which used Facebook itself to promote its suppression efforts, posting one video per day urging him to remove Holocaust-denying groups, pages and posts as “hate speech.”

Once again, and this also is a fact, what is labelled “hate speech” is too often a matter of bias on the part of the hate speech accusers.

In its announcement, Facebook said that the new policy “is supported by the well-documented rise in anti-Semitism globally and the alarming level of ignorance about the Holocaust, especially among young people.” Poppycock. The policy isn’t supported by that in any way. It is not Facebook’s job to protect members of the public from their own ignorance and intellectual torpor. How stupid does someone have to be to believe anything that is posted on social media, even from reliable sources, without checking it?

I invite everyone to speculate what the next debate topic will be that Facebook will be pressured to manipulate and censor. Will Facebook users be allowed to explain why climate change models are too shaky to justify banning automobiles and fossil fuels? Can they opine that aborted embryos are human beings? Is it hate speech to point out that Black Lives Matter is a “hate group”? Is it a conspiracy theory to connect the dots showing that the “resistance” and the Democrats have been willing to abuse law, logic, ethics and the Constitution in their mad and destructive effort to get Donald Trump out of the White House?

In many parts of Europe, it’s a crime to engage in Holocaust denial, and a frightening number of “progressive” Facebook users—Psst! Hypocrites! Censorship isn’t “progressive”…would like such prohibitions here, and not just regarding the Holocaust. Broadcast journalist Keith Olbermann thinks supporting Donald Trump should be illegal. At least one of the Kennedys—they are all the same to me at this point—thinks that opposing climate change cant should be criminalized. Do you think the leadership of the organization with the deceptively cuddly name would be in full support of locking up “racists” by their definition? Is there any doubt?

Is arguing that Zuckerberg has joined the Left’s increasingly open effort to constrain freedom of speech and dissent as a key strategy in gaining permanent and oppressive power advancing a conspiracy theory?

  1. I keep on saying it and I won’t stop; the irrational social justice warriors have already won the battle of the minds across the metropolitan areas of the United States, damn near all college campuses and infiltrating everything with their irrational poison including local governments and school boards and social media and their totalitarian censoring of what they think is wrong think is just one more small example that piles on the evidence to prove my argument. It’s happening over and over again and it will not stop until there is a HUGE public blow up somewhere and the shit really hits the fan because some company or University or government entity didn’t bow to the irrational social justice army of lunatics.

Stupid people like this are gaining power across the USA…

If you don’t want to live under rules created by stupid people then you need to set aside your apathy for society and politics, stand up for intelligent truths and do something about what’s happening!

More and more of the silent majority needs to stand up or it will go the way of the Dodo.

    • I don’t think you can claim a full understanding unless you can at least rationalise why not all others agree with you. Holding that ‘they’ (a vast number) are all ‘stupid’ or ‘brainwashed’ is possible but surely unlikely to be a complete explanation?

Yes, ‘standing up’ (for what you believe) is almost an ethical duty. Others (with whom you clearly disagree) are doing that and I think you may be ‘estopped’ (a concept I’d never heard of before ‘meeting’ Frank) from criticising them for doing so. But when you’re all ‘standing up’ what do you then want to do? I suppose your core choice is whether to fight or seek to compromise? Good luck with that.

        • You assert that “you need to set aside your apathy … (and) stand up …”. Admittedly you may only be implying that your political allies should ‘stand up’ and the others can go to hell, but I understood you to be making the broader point; that we should all be prepared to ‘stand up’ for what we believe, a point with which I agree entirely. I’d go somewhat further and assert that we should all then strive to understand each other and compromise wherever possible. Of course the more popular option is often to insult each other before getting stuck into some serious aggro.

          • Andrew Wakeling wrote, “Admittedly you may only be implying that your political allies should ‘stand up’ and the others can go to hell”

Reasonably correct on your first point but incorrect on your second point, the others are also welcome to their opinion even if I think they’re indoctrinated imbeciles. I wrote the following on my Apathy Fertilizes A Breeding Ground For Stupidity blog back in June of 2019…

When you have one stupid person ranting in public it’s easy for the public to shrug it off and explain it away to others as “it’s just a wacko”, but what happens when that wacko’s rantings become mainstream and there are hordes of stupid people publicly parroting the same irrational emotionally driven nonsense, shutting down public meetings, blocking roadways, wrecking businesses, destroying property and making the public feel unsafe to use their fundamental right to free speech and speak their mind.

Andrew Wakeling wrote, “I understood you to be making the broader point; that we should all be prepared to ‘stand up’ for what we believe, a point with which I agree entirely.”

Not only be prepared but actually stand up and do it! Also from my blog post linked above…

It all boils down to this; you can’t fix stupid but you can stand side-by-side with other intelligent people and speak out against the emotional driven lunacy that stupid people are presenting as the only valid truth.

Andrew Wakeling wrote, “I’d go somewhat further and assert that we should all then strive to understand each other and compromise wherever possible.”

That’s all fine and good when you’re dealing with reasonable people that are tolerant of others opinions, that are actually willing to compromise, and they’re not indoctrinated imbeciles. What we are seeing is blatant bigotry, a complete intolerance to compromise and propaganda induced blind stupidity. Point of fact: the current rioters in the streets born out of the protests are intolerant bigots, totalitarians, Socialists, Marxists and anti-government anarchists and they’re acting like brown shirt fascists, they’re completely unwilling to compromise and they openly state that fact, the chairman of Black Lives Matter of Greater New York, Hawk Newsome, said “If this country doesn’t give us what we want, then we will burn down this system and replace it” and that sentiment has been echoed across the streets of the USA and their violent rioting actions in the streets prove that that is exactly what they intend to do. Common sense has been flushed along with ethics and morals by these people and the photo of the young lady I shared is a really good representation of the irrational mindset of these imbeciles. Society is crumbling in the face of this rise of stupidity intimidating the public and virtue signaling to them to keep them at bay. You think you can compromise with these idiots then you’re simply not using your head; as Mark Twain said, “Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.”  Seriously Andrew, if you think you can compromise with these people then get on a plane and head to Portland, Oregon or Seattle, Washington and give it a try; no Andrew I’m not joking, do it and show everyone else how it’s done.

I choose not to be apathetic, I get involved, I stand up for what I believe…

I think I’ve covered these things you just wrote but you still haven’t covered my request “please explain in some detail your estopped claim”.

Here is a simple definition to help guide you.
Estoppel: the principle which precludes a person from asserting something contrary to what is implied by a previous action or statement of that person or by a previous pertinent judicial determination.

Explain your estoppel claim or withdraw it.

  2. It’s the Holocaust, there are not many events that would garner as much support in protecting the rest of the world from deniers which is the point. Ease us into it. Ignorant people will not give it a second thought. We left the educators unchecked while two parent families that provided balance and support became things of insignificance.

  3. Jack,
This is only indirectly related to this post, but I would recommend the Netflix documentary “The Social Dilemma” for anyone who wants a real wake-up call about social media and basically the whole online experience.

  4. What Facebook is doing does not bode well for the prospects of constructive consideration of the “reparations question.” Methinks the “conversation” has already been framed so as to limit discussion to one and ONLY one “final solution.”
