Now Do You Believe The News Media Is “The Enemy Of The People”?

Liberal investigative journalist Glenn Greenwald resigned today from The Intercept after the publication he co-founded  censored a column in which he called out Joe Biden based on newly released documents regarding Biden’s conduct in the Ukraine and China.

“The final, precipitating cause [of resignation] is that The Intercept’s editors, in violation of my contractual right of editorial freedom, censored an article I wrote this week, refusing to publish it unless I remove all sections critical of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden,” Greenwald wrote. He condemned “all New-York-based Intercept editors,” saying that they “vehemently” support Biden. “Modern media outlets do not air dissent; they quash it. ”

Greenwald said he would continue publishing a freelance column, joining a number of journalists such as Matt Taibbi and Andrew Sullivan who have moved their work to the independent publishing platform Substack.

He criticized his former publication for “a deep fear of offending hegemonic cultural liberalism and center-left Twitter luminaries, and an overarching need to secure the approval and admiration of the very mainstream media outlets we created The Intercept to oppose, critique and subvert.”

That sounds about right.

The determination of the mainstream media and others to keep the full significance of the Biden scandal away from as much of the public as possible is now as undeniable asn it is ominous. If Biden indeed wins, it will be the most flagrant example of US media news manipulation in our history.

Greenwald has been one of the nation’s most courageous and non-partisan truth-tellers, and his protest demonstrates how dire the situation has become. Naturally, his former publication is ridiculing his stand, sending the message that there is nothing to see here.

Intercept’s Betsy Reed called him “a grown person throwing a tantrum.”.

“While he accuses us of political bias, it was he who was attempting to recycle a political campaign’s—the Trump campaign’s—dubious claims and launder them as journalism,” Reed said in a statement. “We have the greatest respect for the journalist Glenn Greenwald used to be.”

On the podcast The Joe Rogan Experience, Greenwald characterized the media’s dogged protection of Biden, saying,

“They’re all desperate for Trump to lose. They don’t want to be scorned in their social circles. And so they’re willing to abdicate their journalistic function, which is reporting on one of the most powerful people in the world, and Joe Biden in part because they want to manipulate and tinker with the election using journalism, but a much bigger part because they’re scared of being yelled at on Twitter.”

Enemies of truth, enemies of an informed public, enemies of democracy, enemies of the people.

  1. I’m pleased to say that I just coughed up money to subscribe to Greenwald’s new Substack feature.

And by the way – for some reason, your commentary appeared twice, sequentially.

  2. Yes, the blocks duplicated themselves in weird unexpected ways and unless you just happen to scroll down beyond where you think your last line is it hidden from view. I’ve seen this multiple times in the WordPress block editor when I’ve been creating a blog post, one time I had to delete the entire thing because it had multiple duplicates within the text, it was all screwed up! It’s freaking terrible!

  3. Yes! Today’s media is is mostly propaganda and subterfuge. Left and right wing media are guilty of this but the left has the edge on making the self-righteously ignorant even more so.

My mom was a journalism major and has been a writer for decades. She is shocked by what should be simple and fair reporting being turned into a total partisan parade of misdirection, misrepresentation, and outright censorship of stories.

I trust little of what the news says anymore. That’s why I read this blog so much.

    • Mrs. Q. I absolutely agree with your first last paragraph. Because I don’t know your mom I cannot comment on the second but I’ll take your word for it.

    • I had to chuckle at Greenwald’s use of the term “center-left” in the article he posted. “Earth to Glenn: Sweetheart, there is no ‘center-left’ any more.” Sure, there are probably Stalinists and Trotskyites, but center-left? Forget about it.

  4. When the New York Post first published its Hunter Biden expose, the media refused to report the substance of the allegations, but they at least reported that the Post had published “hacked” material and “Russian disinformation.” When Tony Bobulinski stepped forward and said, “I’m a former Captain in the Navy with a Q security clearance, and I have emails, text messages, voice recordings, receipts and itineraries,” the media couldn’t claim there was any hacking or that he was a Russian agent, so they just completely ignored the story.

  5. Today, the crossword puzzle in the “Indianapolis Star” had a clue that asked for Obama’s VP.

It reminds me of a “Jeopardy!” episode that aired right before the 2016 election in which the Final Jeopardy category was female politicians. I quipped to my husband that the answer would be Hillary Clinton.

I was close. It was Madeline Albright…AND Hillary Clinton.

    They’re insidious.

  6. wow. Shared on facebook 4 times. They didn’t ban it. But said “we can’t find their facebook page that they opened 10 eyars ago” lol.

LOVE, LOV,E Joe Rogan. He’s opening the conversation and doing a great thing.
