Update On The Alleged Clinton Spying Scandal: “What’s Going On Here?” We Still Don’t Know Thanks To The Untrustworthy News Media…And That Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things

So…did “Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign “pay” an internet company to ‘infiltrate”’ servers at Trump Tower and the White House in order to link Donald Trump to Russia”? as the conservative New York Post reported one hour into February 13? That report was quickly picked up and expanded on by other news sources, notably Fox News, but only the so-called “conservative media.” Ethics Alarms reported on that depressing phenomenon the same day, noting,

If you only follow the mainstream media, meaning only those outlets that are directly doing everything they can, every day, in every way, to bolster Democratic Party narratives, progressive agendas and the prospects of minimizing the public’s support of the Republican Party, you are learning about this for the first time. If, however, you also check the conservative news and commentary sources that perform a service with their own biases by preventing the ongoing betrayal of public trust by the mainstream media from completely deceiving the nation, then you know about this breaking story already….As of right now, there are not enough facts and details to analyze the ethical implications of the story itself. However, there can be no doubt that a similar breaking story that implicated Republicans, and especially Donald Trump, would be screaming out from headlines and broadcasts from all the mainstream news sources. Thus there is sufficient evidence to conclude that this is one more striking example of the degree to which the news media is, as that crazy President Trump said years ago in perhaps his most perceptive moment, “the enemy of the people.”

Yesterday, nearly two days after the story was broken by those evil conservative news organizations, the New York Times against assumed its role as the gang-leader of the biased mainstream media, and finally mentioned the story. Its spin: ‘There goes that mains stream media conspiracy machine again!”

The headline was “Court Filing Started a Furor in Right-Wing Outlets, but Their Narrative Is Off Track.” If a reader would be engaged by news of more post-2016 election skullduggery by Democrats to bring down President Trump. nothing in that headline would give them a clue.

By this morning, having received their matching orders from the Times (and presumably the Democratic operatives who have been feeding the Times its orders, as we have periodically seen since 2016), the Washington Post ( “Why Trump is once again claiming that he was spied upon in 2016”—the story is about that crazy Trump who threatens democracy!),  NBC, keeping it straight (but still nothing from MSNBC): “Tech exec used access to White House computers to look for dirt on Trump, says special counsel”;  and yes, CNN had finally acknowledged a story days after a similar breaking story that implicated Republicans, and especially Donald Trump, would have been screaming out from headlines and broadcasts from all the mainstream news sources more than two days earlier. The CNN approach, amazingly unbiased compared to the Times and Wapo: Special counsel Durham alleges Clinton campaign lawyer used data to raise suspicions about Trump.”

I’ve read them all, and others as they pop up here. This morning, the conservative Washington Free Beacon has moved on to a different angle: “Biden Had Firm at Center of Trump Hacking Scandal on Campaign Payroll.”

I still don’t know what the facts are. I can’t trust or believe anybody, and neither can you. I subscribe to Glenn Greewald’s newsletter, because I do trust him, and presumably he’ll clarify this eventually, or I’m wasting Ethics Alarms budget.

Maybe the Times is right, and the story is just a right-wing media fever dream. After Benghazi, the Russian collusion hoax, and the Hunter Biden laptop debacle however, my money’s with those stupid, lying, “Trumpist” conservative sources. That’s just a guess, though. We shouldn’t have to guess.

This is no way to run a democracy.

  1. We’re not running a pure democracy, of course, and the Democratic Party periodically reminds us of that by telling us tortured tales like “a majority of SCOTUS justices were now nominated by presidents who didn’t win the pupluar vote and confirmed by a Senate majority that represents a minority of the population.” That said, even small-d democracy, like the representative republic the Founding Fathers wisely chose over big-D pure democracy can’t function if it depends on a populace that is not well-informed. A populace can’t be well-informed if it is being fed bad information, it’s garbage in, garbage out. The Democratic Party is determined the populace gets nothing but garbage.

  2. That’s probably one of the best pictures of Durham available. It’s probably five or ten years old and was taken when he used to trim his Van Dyke or goatee or whatever is the correct term for that beard. Maybe the newspapers use the least flattering photos available.

  3. Jack wrote, “I still don’t know what the facts are.”

True. Not knowing what the facts are hasn’t stopped the political left’s hive minded propaganda machine from putting it in high gear and plastering their spin far and wide and then demonizing anyone that disagrees with their propaganda hive mind.

Jack wrote, “I can’t trust or believe anybody, and neither can you.”

True. The state of affairs of the media is really sad.

Jack wrote, “Maybe the Times is right, and the story is just a right-wing media fever dream.”

Not likely, their pattern is clear.

The ideological core of the political left in the 21st century and what binds their hive mind together are these four tenants of “truth”…

    1. The left is right.
    2. The right is wrong.
    3. Wrong is evil.
    4. Evil must be destroyed.

…that’s the dead end of their ability to think critically.

The political left has shown it’s pattern of propaganda lies in their narratives so many times since 2016 that it’s beyond me why anyone would blindly accept any narrative that the political left and their lapdog media actively push?

Jack wrote, “After Benghazi, the Russian collusion hoax, and the Hunter Biden laptop debacle however, my money’s with those stupid, lying, “Trumpist” conservative sources. That’s just a guess, though.”

Sure it’s a guess, but it’s an educated guess that’s based on a 6+ year verified pattern of propaganda lies from the left’s propaganda machine.

Jack wrote, “We shouldn’t have to guess.”

    EXACTLY!!!

  4. Let’s just be honest, it does not matter what happened. The mainstream media will pretend none of this ever happened no matter what evidence is provided. They will “fact check” everything into a black hole, “debunk” the truth away, and ignore anything that does not fit the narrative of “democrats are perfect and unless everyone elects them democracy will crumble”.

    The truth is irrelevant.

    Our institutions are corrupt.

No one is going to jail for this. Democrats can do whatever they want. They have permanent immunity from any and all crimes if that D is parked next to their name. Spying on a campaign is only illegal if republicans do it. Spying on a president is only illegal if republicans do it. Hacking government servers is only illegal if republicans do it.

The mainstream media does not exist to inform the people. It exists to control the people.

  5. I think this investigation is going to vindicate much (though not all) of what Trump ahs been saying all along. His poor communication skills and sometimes awkward way of speaking gives progressives an easy out to dismiss what he is trying to get at.

I’ve met some people who had “horse sense” but couldn’t always speak well, and I’ve met many people who can speak fluently but are full of crap.

  6. The Post story seems to have verified factual statements in it. The group that accessed Trump’s computers (or whatever) reported that there was evidence Trump has some sort of association with a particular Russian bank, which suggested collusion. There’s something about Trump’s team possibly having some sort of rare Russian phones (not based on physical evidence of said phones, but something about the nature of the hacked communications.) Durham’s report (probably the source of all this,) describes this “evidence” of Russian collusion, which sounds like think gruel to begin with, and describes all of the accusations as lacking any evidence or substance, although I can’t tell if the evidence was planted or simply lied about, or whether it was just weak circumstantial evidence and bad-faith assumptions, or a little of both. Other headlines have described the company hired by Clinton as having “planted” the evidence of collusion (since no hard evidence seems to exist, this may just mean they lied about it existing,) but this could just be right-wing outlets playing the telephone game.

I notice that no one is currently claiming that the team hired by Clinton actually found anything, but Clinton herself tweeted about the “scandal” at the time, and others in the media reported it as fact.

I can’t even figure out if what Clinton did is legal or not, as no one seems to be arguing the question either way. If no one important goes to jail, the corporate media will bury the story, and that’s the only bottom line I know for sure.
