Incompetent Elected Official Of The Month: Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D.-NY)

Amazingly, this is the first time New York’s communist wacko Congresswoman, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, has been designated an Incompetent Elected Official of the Month. Since her election, re-election and re-re-election, she has been honored here with (let’s see…) two Ethics Dunces, two Unethical Quotes, three Unethical tweets, and an over-all assessment as an ethics villain when she could have scored an Unqualified Elected Official, Ethics Dunce, Unethical Tweet, Unethical Quote, and a KABOOM! with a single blazingly moronic tweet. Ethics Alarms did award her a special Incompetent UNelected Official Of The Month in July of 2018 when she was first running for office. This was after she uttered the kind of brainless nonsense we are now accustomed to, saying that “Unemployment is low because everyone has two jobs.”

The sad truth is that I could probably justify an “AOC is an incompetent fool” post every day, certainly every week. She’s a true Dunning-Krueger victim: AOC thinks she’s smart, when she is ignorant and dumber than the average brick. The fact that so many Democrats and progressives view her as a rising star of their “movement” is really all you need to know about how far the Left has fallen. I pretty much decided long ago to put her in Julie Principle territory. AOC does and says stupid, unethical things. Fish swim. Birds fly.

But her latest exhibition deserves attention, illustrated by the recent tweet above. This is the equivalent of a public official publicly announcing, “I’m a moron”:

1 There is no “fake ” account. The Twitter account is Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Press Release (parody). It is exactly what it says it is; in fact, I regard it as one of the most ethical parody sites on the web, because it isn’t trying to trick anyone—well, not anyone with two IQ points to rub together anyway.

2. If AOC thinks it’s “impersonating” her, then she must think a tweet like “Every time my boyfriend farts – I make him plant a tree to offset his carbon emissions” is something she might reasonably be expected to say. And, come to think of it, that would not have been out of place in her “Green New Deal.”

3. She apparently hasn’t heard of “The Streisand Effect,” in which complaining about something a celebrity finds annoying guarantees that more people will become aware of it. Elon Musk didn’t “boost visibility” a tenth as much as AOC’s whining. Funny: in the Fifties, Sixties and Seventies, not a single politician or celebrity publicly complained about Mad Magazine regularly making fun of them. They could figure out that doing so would make them look petty, stuffy, and foolish, while encouraging their critics. It’s not a hard calculation, but AOC is apparently incapable of it.

4. Does she really think parody tweets like “If the government can print money, citizens should be allowed to. If we had money printers in each household, everyone would be rich and the economy would be booming” is a “fake policy statement”? The proper term is “joke.” But it takes wit and humility for a politician to appreciate gags aimed her way. Indeed, progressives increasingly reject humor, unless it denigrates Donald Trump.

5. Ooooh, she’s “assessing.” There must be some way to censor these subversives—that is increasingly her party’s response to “hurtful” words. What self-beclowning bluster! There’s nothing AOC can do to stop a transparent parody Twitter account., except to stop saying ridiculous things that beg for parody.

It is important to note, being fair here, that Rep. Ocasio-Cortez isn’t the mots incompetent member of Congress. She’s not even the most incompetent member of “The Squad”; that honor probably goes to Cori Bush. She is an embarrassment nonetheless, and the real problem is that enough people who must be even dumber than AOC vote for boobs like her (in both parties), inflicting rot on our institutions.

Ethics Alarms must give credit where credit is due: at least Ocasio-Cortez keeps doing her best to let voters know exactly how unfit for office she is. If only enough of them were smart enough to get the message…

  1. Something else that is telling to me is, she feels she has to tell her followers/constituents it’s a parody account. Is that not a huge dis on them that she thinks they are that dumb? Or, is she right to think that? Hmm

      • Agreed. It’s hysterical. I spend less than 5 minutes a week reading twitter (just basically what gets linked on these pages) and I’ve already doubled my time there.

        What a hoot!

On the other hand, it’s tragic that people as non-sensical as AOC are elected by others to represent them. It speaks volumes about the electorate.

      • The thing is this: some of the tweets are a bit too close to some of the dumb things she says. Often, it is hard to know which is her account and which is the parody/mockety.
