A Canary Dies In An Ethics Culture Mine, And It’s No Surprise That The Mine IS In The State Of Washington

In the city of Federal Way, Washington, Denise Yun is running for the City Council on a platform of protecting businesses from crime. Meanwhile, Nick Rose, a Federal Way Trinity Ace Hardware store owner, apparently caught her attempting to steal multiple hammers from his store by stuffing them into her purse.

Seeing her act suspiciously and spying the glint of something metallic in the woman’s jumbo purse, Rose asked if he could see what she had in there, to which Yun replied, “Absolutely not!” So he reached into her bag anyway, and pulled out one of his hammers. “It was one of my hammers that had a little ACE tag hanging on it. It was a ball peen hammer, so I just grabbed it. And as soon as that happened, she just stormed out of the store,” he said. Taking the rest of the hammers.

Yun denied that she was shoplifting in an interview with the Federal Way Mirror. She admitted to putting the hammers into her purse, but said she did it to prevent them from falling on her feet. Sure. Yun also claims she left the hammers with the store before leaving before leaving, but surveillance footage shows otherwise. Also not backed up by the video is her claim—you know this was coming—that Rose made a “racist comment” about her running for office. Rose says that he had no idea who she was until he did some research after her hasty exit. But he’s white, she isn’t, and in places like Seattle, playing the race card to get out of accountability free is standard operating procedure.

Here’s the kicker, though: she’s not leaving the race. That’s the dead canary. Her entire narrative about how a racist white man set out to ruin her campaign by falsely charging her with shoplifting and then “deceptively editing” the surveillance footage now takes up the bulk of her campaign website. (She also argues that its absurd that anyone would think she could be so stupid as to try to shoplift while running for office. Insert “bag of hammers” joke here.) Yun is obviously betting that in Ultra Woke Washington, where Black Lives Matter was cheered on as it provoked chaos, a Korean American woman will always be believed over a white man, and besides, shoplifting is no big deal anyway, right? Furthermore, what’s a few hammers when compared to a city counsel member’s agenda of “equitable” voting and promoting “diversity”?

The Bizarro World values and ethics being cultivated on the West Coast will metastasize quickly, especially since parallel ethics madness is flourishing on the East Coast as well. How long will it take before being a shoplifter is considered a credential for aspiring elected officials?

  1. “The Bizarro World values and ethics being cultivated on the West Coast will metastasize quickly, …” was that …will “metastasized” or “metallized” quickly…”? Sorry, I tried a “bag of hammers” joke. Me bad.

  2. Ugly and discouraging, and hardly newsworthy (A brassy hypocrit running for office . . haven’t we seen this before? And who hasn’t seen dead, choked silent canaries scattered throughout governmental halls?) but the ridicule was great fun – so Thanx. We’ve moved on from the west coast’s descent into abysses of failed leadership, morality and legality.

  3. Why would she need a bag of ball peen hammers?

    Take it away, Comrade Pete.”

“If I had a hammer, I’d hammer in the mornin’…”

    • Looked at the video. I guess she wanted hammers to give to volunteers to erect campaign signs. Her cart at the Ace, which she abandoned when scooting out the front door with her bag (and at least one hammer), was filled with wooden stakes, thirty or so, it appears.

Who doesn’t these days know everything, and everyone is on video? She should have worn a hoodie and a Covid mask so she’d look like Barack Obama’s son if he had one, and brazenly strolled out the door pushing her cart of goodies. Why’d she pay for anything?

      • … and the love between the brothers and sisters, all, all, all, all over this land.”

Jesus, Pete was a Commie’s Commie. Bernie Sanders style.

  4. She also attempted to return the hammers with a $200 donation? I thought she didn’t steal them. She’s an idiot and Seattle deserves what they get if they vote for her.

  5. But you missed her reclama:

Being a Korean American woman candidate for the city of federal way council I thought was a plus considering there’s no Korean American who has ran for this seat although the population of the Korean Americans are at least 15,000 and many are small business owners.

At Ace Hardware Store on Pacific Hwy I had stopped there to price how much wooden stakes cost because my campaign signs had arrived. A young gentlemen helped with the different size stakes and loaded all of them in my shopping cart. The Store Manager Nick was behind us the entire time and knew I was running for office and suggested I should buy hammers to place the signs on the ground. He released a video that was edited to show people a one sided story. This incident of his statement of trying to ruin my campaign by alleging I stole merchandise from his store is untrue. Not only that, his goal of branding me a thief by contacting the local media with the video edited and not showing the full version of me in the store that would have exonerated me has caused exactly what he wanted. For people to not vote for me and vote for my opponent. This is what it’s like to campaign in the eyes of a Trump Republican. When I arrived to pay for all the merchandise in the cart he said to me: “How many Koreans gave you 100 of dollars in cash to run for office in Korea Town?”

I was angry and hurt by his comment and left the store, left all the merchandise in the shopping cart.
I hope people understand that there are two sides to a story and I am not stupid enough to steal anything while running for office and had given the employee my phone number when they had more wooden stakes.

I have not been charged with any crime and I look forward to the day when all the facts of this incident are in full view and I will be vindicated and exonerated.

    And it gets better:

This isn’t the first time Yun has been accused of shoplifting.

Yun pleaded guilty to Second Degree Attempted Theft for an incident on Sep. 18, 2000 at the Nordstrom at Bellevue Square Mall. Loss prevention staff saw Yun enter fitting rooms with a Nordstrom bag and merchandise, but when she exited, the items weren’t located. Yun paid for one dress, but stole $1,451 worth of other merchandise.

  6. “How long will it take before being a shoplifter is considered a credential for aspiring elected officials?”
It’s usually under “Previous Experience” on their resumes.

  7. She could plausibly admit she felt threatened by the clerk reaching into her bag and accidentally left with the hammers in her haste to leave. That would involve admitting a mistake, which is of course verboten. Democrats don’t make mistakes.
