Saturday Morning Wake-Up (2): A Biden Presidency Ethics Train Wreck Update

1. I’ll introduce this by noting that an American Research Group poll found that public approval of President Biden’s handling of his job has fallen to just 39%.

Of the 39% of Americans saying they approve of the way Biden is handling his job, 65% say they expect the national economy will be better a year from now. (They are whistling past the graveyard.) Of the 56% saying they disapprove of the way Biden his handling his job as president, 71% believe the national economy will be worse a year from now. Why wouldn’t it be?

Of Republicans polled, just 3% approve of the way Biden is handling his job. 34% of Independents approve, but 80% of Democrats actually told another human being that they approve like the way Biden is running his Presidency because every thing is going so well. That’s incompetent citizenship. One can still be a Democrats and be able to honestly assess a disaster when a Democrat is at the helm of the Ship of State, can’t you? Talk about cult-like behavior.

2. Here’s a more encouraging poll, sort of: the latest Rasmussen Reports survey found that nearly three-quarters ,72%, of voters believe that “America is becoming a police state” under Biden. Rasmussen defined “police state” as “a tyrannical government that engages in mass surveillance, censorship, ideological indoctrination, and targeting of political opponents.” Targeting of political opponents? Why would anyone think that?

(Yes, I’m going to work that reference to Biden’s ‘anyone who opposes my party and government is a fascist and danger to democracy’ speech every chance I get. Lest we forget.)

Republicans led the way with 76% expressing fears of totalitarian trends under Biden, but Democrats were not far behind at 67%. Combining the two polls, one can only conclude that a large number of Democrats like the fact that Biden is overseeing a developing police state. And I think that’s a correct impression.

3. In a speech this week to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, President Biden expressed his admiration for the “Congressional Black Caucus.” Whatever! Blacks, Hispanics, “LatinX,” gays, transgenders, women—-they’re all just tribal voting blocs to pander to, I guess.

4. Sorry, I woke up snarky today. #3 is just a lesser example of the phenomenon illustrated by this episode, in which President Biden enlivened a campaign event by repeating a story about the 2017 Charlottesville riot and his decision to run for president in 2020 minutes apart and nearly word-for-word. The New York Post says Biden was “showing his age.” Stuff like that isn’t showing age, it’s displaying dementia. Repeating what you have just said is classic short-term memory loss. Is it really plausible that Biden isn’t going to get worse by Democratic National Convention time? And would the party really nominate someone who might give his acceptance speech twice?

5. This is unethical, if not dementia: From Politico: “Biden to join the picket line in UAW strike/His decision to stand alongside the striking workers represents perhaps the most significant display of union solidarity ever by a sitting president”

The President should not take sides in management-labor disputes. This is grandstanding of the worst sort; it’s also abuse of position and power. Almost certainly, Biden does not know the details of the two sides’ positions.

6. From the “Do Something!” files: Biden announced yesterday the establishment of a White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention. To make it crystal clear that the gesture is meaningless, babbling VP Kamala Harris was put in charge. Biden summarized what the new office would do this way: “The Office of Gun Violence Prevention along with the rest of my Administration will continue to do everything it can to combat the epidemic of gun violence that is tearing our families, our communities, and our country apart.”

Everything! This is sop to anti-gun fanatics and victims’ groups. If they were thinking straight, and they can’t, they would recognize such cynical virtue-signaling as the insult to their intelligence that it is.

7. “Nah, this isn’t an aspiring totalitarian government!” Miguel Cardona, President Biden’s black—wait, Hispanic—Secretary of Education, sat for an interview with The Associated Press this week, and in response to a standard and useless “how do you feel about question about whether other Secretaries of Education have had to endure such intense public criticism of public education, Cardona said, “I’ve never seen it where it is now. There was civility, we could disagree, we could have healthy conversations around what’s best for kids.” Cardona then said, saying the quiet part out loud, “I respect differences of opinion. I don’t have too much respect for people that are misbehaving in public and acting like they know what’s right for kids.”

That would be parents he doesn’t respect for acting like they know what’s right for their own kids. Yes, the woke government and their paid indoctrinators know best. This is really how progressives think; the reason earlier Secretaries of Education didn’t have to deal with a backlash was that parents foolishly trusted the public schools while they evolved into ideologically and politically biased tools of the Left. Cardona should have to explain that comment, and the White House as well. Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe lost his bid for re- election when he said, “I don’t think parents should be telling schools what they should teach” and doubled down when asked to explain that sentiment by saying, “You don’t want parents coming in in every different school jurisdiction saying, ‘This is what should be taught here.'”

Are 80% of Democrats really in agreement with that?

  1. Re #7 It is not difficult for parents to know what should be taught. They want their kids to be able to read, solve math problems, construct and write cogent essays at or above grade level.
Only after that has been accomplished should the student be exposed to more esoteric subject matter.
Secretary Cardona seems to be unable to understand the criticism of parents. Parents are not telling faculty what to teach they are demanding that the fundamentals be mastered before exposing their children to that which is unnecessary to their academic achievement.

  2. #1-4: These days, being a democrat requires a mindset willing to ignore reality.
#6: That’s a relief; with Cackles in charge, nothing will actually get done. In any case, Bruen is steadily working its way through the courts now, most recently against Kalifornia’s magazine limits.
#7: “What would the parents know about raising the State’s children?” Say Stalin, Mao, Fidel, democrats,,,,,
