This Is What I Have To Put Up With On The National Legal Ethics Lawyers’ Listserv…

What does that tell us? Look: this was posted today on the Association for Professional Responsibility Lawyers’ listserv:

“I am being objective here, so please no backlash. I am wondering if a lawyer would get in trouble for urging others to oust a President who acts extremely erratically.  I am speaking specifically about Trump posting a picture of himself as Jesus and then saying he was doing it as a “doctor.” Even if the President was a Democrat this would appear to be behavior that might indicate dementia. The political party is unimportant.  Would it be “frivilous” under the Rules – the President is still showing up for work. His doctors say he is fine. But that is early Alzheimer’s behavior, isn’t it?  If this is going to make people angry because I asked then forgive me as that is not my intent.”

The writer is a law school professor and practicing lawyer as well as an author of several legal ethics textbooks. The author of that post is also on two current high commissions to review and reform the rules governing lawyer conduct.

  1. I started laughing after the first five words…”I am being objective here”. That’s so rich.

President Trump taking on the role of Jesus in a drawing is a bit arrogant and sacrilegious, but erratic?!? Decidedly not!

Let’s see, right now there’s some guy who dresses up like Jesus, co-opts the words of Jesus from the Bible, pretends to heal people, pretends to do tricks with fish and bread, and pretends to talk directly with God. People nestle into their Lazy-boy recliners every week to watch him on some show called “The Chosen.” That guy is also a bit sacrilegious, but is he erratic?…unhinged?…infected with Alzheimer’s?…nope. No one’s accusing THAT guy of being nuts…nor are they regarding the dozens of people that have donned robes and acted like the Savior down through the years – including all the “Jesus Christ Superstar” guys – as crazy. Because they’re not.

    Nor is President Trump.

Now if some guy was walking down the street saying he was the actual, literal Jesus returned to earth and there wasn’t a director and filming crew around?…that might raise my eyebrows. But none of those guys I mentioned above is doing that.

    Nor is President Trump.

This lawyer’s reaction is EXACTLY what the President is going for when he posted the image. The Left plays right into his hands. He is constantly doing these things because he knows he’s living rent-free in their heads, and he’ll remain there until the day he leaves offi…actually, not any more…he will remain there until the day he dies. And probably after that. President Trump’s legacy – regardless of which side you’re on – will be legendary. Andrew Jackson and Teddy Roosevelt can only watch envious from their graves. President Biden?…not even a B-2-sized blip on the radar.

President Trump has kept his opponents in an off-balance, reactionary state for a decade. He has forced them – in their constant rage – to repeatedly expose themselves for the erratic, unhinged people they accuse Trump of being.

It’s sad the Presidency has come to this – the loss of so much decorum, the relentless trolling, the rants, the “gotta-have-the-last-word” mentality. But to see what it’s done to the Democrats and the Left in general – and revealed about them – is not sad. Those revelations have been a delicious, beautiful thing.

P.S. – I really dislike the paging system WordPress is using. It’s impossible to scan the entire OP and still have your comments available to write/wordsmith. I need to open the second page in a separate window…super inconvenient. It’s not your fault, Jack…just a lament of the environment.

      • Thanks! And I’m glad it’s easier for you work in the revised environment. It’s been more than a decade since I’ve published anything in WP…and I’ll bet a LOT has changed.
