This Is What I Have To Put Up With On The National Legal Ethics Lawyers’ Listserv…

How is it possible that someone with that track record and level of achievement could seriously offer a comment like that?

1. Wait, wasn’t the Left trying to save democracy? You don’t “oust” an elected President until his term runs out or he is defeated. Is this a claim that the 25th Amendment is called for? Then say so. It requires incapacity, not, as in Trump’s case, characteristic demonstrations of eccentric outburst that are obviously habitual and a pattern of long-standing. There are no high crimes and misdemeanors being alleged. But to the Left, and that means most of the legal community, it a President is towing the woke line, he needs to be “ousted.”

2. Why would a lawyer “get in trouble” for advocating anything? The comment alludes to Rule 3.1, prohibiting frivolous claims. Advocating stupid things is still not a legal action and therefore not governed by the legal ethics rules. Go ahead! Advocate nonsense to your heart’s content!

3. An ill-considered tweet including tasteless jokes and analogies this lawyer doesn’t “get” is still not indicative of dementia except to someone whose confirmation bias has mated with their Trump Derangement.

4. “Frivolous” isn’t spelled that way…

5. Suuuure, party affiliation has nothing to do with this! Riiight. Nothing at all. Funny, this Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers member expressed no similar concerns when the previous President was obviously demented and fading fast into vegetablehood for his entire four year term. Trump is engaged, active, and available to the media, but this lawyer thinks a bad social media post proves that he’s unable to serve. Trump tweeted “Covfefe” by mistake in 2017, and that was used to argue for invoking the 25th during his first term

6. This lawyer is not a doctor. Objectively, Trump’s stupid social media barf was no more damning that the idiotic social media posts I read every day, many from lawyers, and many from people half the President’s age.

Is this early Altzheimer’s? Only to people who want it to be.

I’m not angry that a highly regarded legal ethics lawyer and academic wrote such self-evident crap. I’m disgusted.

Why do I pay dues to be a member of a group like this?

  1. I started laughing after the first five words…”I am being objective here”. That’s so rich.

President Trump taking on the role of Jesus in a drawing is a bit arrogant and sacrilegious, but erratic?!? Decidedly not!

Let’s see, right now there’s some guy who dresses up like Jesus, co-opts the words of Jesus from the Bible, pretends to heal people, pretends to do tricks with fish and bread, and pretends to talk directly with God. People nestle into their Lazy-boy recliners every week to watch him on some show called “The Chosen.” That guy is also a bit sacrilegious, but is he erratic?…unhinged?…infected with Alzheimer’s?…nope. No one’s accusing THAT guy of being nuts…nor are they regarding the dozens of people that have donned robes and acted like the Savior down through the years – including all the “Jesus Christ Superstar” guys – as crazy. Because they’re not.

    Nor is President Trump.

Now if some guy was walking down the street saying he was the actual, literal Jesus returned to earth and there wasn’t a director and filming crew around?…that might raise my eyebrows. But none of those guys I mentioned above is doing that.

    Nor is President Trump.

This lawyer’s reaction is EXACTLY what the President is going for when he posted the image. The Left plays right into his hands. He is constantly doing these things because he knows he’s living rent-free in their heads, and he’ll remain there until the day he leaves offi…actually, not any more…he will remain there until the day he dies. And probably after that. President Trump’s legacy – regardless of which side you’re on – will be legendary. Andrew Jackson and Teddy Roosevelt can only watch envious from their graves. President Biden?…not even a B-2-sized blip on the radar.

President Trump has kept his opponents in an off-balance, reactionary state for a decade. He has forced them – in their constant rage – to repeatedly expose themselves for the erratic, unhinged people they accuse Trump of being.

It’s sad the Presidency has come to this – the loss of so much decorum, the relentless trolling, the rants, the “gotta-have-the-last-word” mentality. But to see what it’s done to the Democrats and the Left in general – and revealed about them – is not sad. Those revelations have been a delicious, beautiful thing.

P.S. – I really dislike the paging system WordPress is using. It’s impossible to scan the entire OP and still have your comments available to write/wordsmith. I need to open the second page in a separate window…super inconvenient. It’s not your fault, Jack…just a lament of the environment.

      • Thanks! And I’m glad it’s easier for you work in the revised environment. It’s been more than a decade since I’ve published anything in WP…and I’ll bet a LOT has changed.
