“A nice stroke that turns him into a drooling, pooping blob in a wheelchair unable to speak.”
——Bob Greene, Chairman of the Board of Rocky Mountain PBS, on the station’s X account when asked about his birthday wish for President Trump, who turned 80 last week,
Nice! On the Rocky Mountain PBS website, Greene is described as “an experienced senior executive with over 35 years in sales, marketing and operations in the entertainment, interactive and broadband industries” who is “responsible for developing new revenue platforms and partnerships that leverage and enhance the global scale of Liberty.”
Nah, there’s no mainstream media bias! Responding to this pure verbal hate, a spokesperson for Rocky Mountain Public Media said that it had “only recently become aware of this post in question” and that it violates their social media guidelines, which state that “Personal views and political positions should be kept separate from the station’s content, and should not appear on any RMPM-operated platform or dedicated page/stream” and ” that “when using the internet or social media in your personal life, please make it clear and conspicuous that all of your statements are on your own behalf and are not RMPM’s. Disclaimers such as ‘opinions are my own’ should be used whenever appropriate.” And Greene’s post magically disappeared.
But the official disclaimer doesn’t change the fact that the individual at the top of the station’s management pyramid felt comfortable posting his vile opinion because it was completely consistent with the bias and toxic culture at the station. Hiding that kind of deranged hate doesn’t solve the problem of programming being filtered through such attitudes and such irresponsible leadership.
The episode serves as a vivid reminder of how much NPR and PBS deserved to have their Federal Funding eliminated. I had another discussion with a Trump Deranged friend who was bemoaning the loss of the two Leftist propaganda organs, which bring essential services to remote rural communities, or so the story goes. All NPR and PBS had to do was be fair, objective and non-partisan to have a strong argument that they performed an important function for the public regardless of citizens’ political affiliations. They couldn’t do it. They allowed themselves to be co-opted and dominated by progressives and Democrats who proved unable to restrain their objective of using NPR and PBS to advance a partisan agenda and to indoctrinate listeners. Greene openly expressed that bias, which he was supposed to keep under wraps like the rest of the staff. Yet the NPR and PBS broadcasts are evidence enough.
These people have such contempt for the intelligence of Americans,
Exit Question: Has any previous POTUS been the object of such unrestrained verbal calumny?
No.
But now they’ve done it, every Republican president will be treated similarly. It’s their new playbook.
I suspect Abraham Lincoln was subject to similar treatment by the Democrats.
Exit Question: Possibly Lincoln, especially by the northern Dems (the southern ones had seceded and were limited to armed warfare). The availability of access that we enjoy today was, obviously, not there, so solid evidence one way or the other is not available.
George W. Bush was the object of unrestrained verbal calumny. How quickly we forget!
There was also Death of a President, a British documentary-style fictional movie about Bush’s assassination that Americans on the left lined up to see.
What’s striking is how often, and how consistently, people like Bob Greene project onto Donald Trump the very things that actually characterize Joe Biden, and that were present and obvious from the time of Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign all the way through the four-year Biden regency.
Reagan and both Bushes came in for plenty of hate and still do, but, since social media did not exist at the time of their presidencies for the most part, it wasn’t as pronounced or pervasive as the hatred for Trump. Mostly it comes from idiots spewing their bile online who can be discounted as such, but every so often someone with a little more significance, like this guy, and like the party official in Nebraska when Steve Scalise was shot, says the quiet part out loud. There’s a reason you are not supposed to say the quiet part out loud.
Exactly Steve. The social media factor magnifies the calumny against Trump logarithmicly
You would think that people would use it for more than arguing with celebs and spewing bile at politicians.

Greene’s bio page has disappeared. That link now gives a 404 error. Since I couldn’t read that, I wandered over to their ethics page. I don’t see anything that specifically says they can’t wish ill on the president, so I guess this will just blow over.
Exit Question: Has any previous POTUS been the object of such unrestrained verbal calumny?
Myself, it is perhaps somewhat easier to maintain psychic and emotional distance from the more often than not deranged opinions and turbulent feelings of Americans in this bizarre, conflicted, downward-tending moment in US history.
The problem is that when faced with the irrational and profoundly psychological reaction to Donald Trump, one is sort of forced into a defensive posture and as a result one’s defenses become similarly irrational.
The only rational thing to do is to try and maintain psychic distance, and not to lose sight of the fact that the nation is (to all appearances) in profound spiritual and political crisis which seems to result in a mass formation psychosis or something close to it. The real question is What comes next?
The “rise of Donald Trump”, his appearance on the stage, is itself a phenomenon that should be studied. But there is no one to do it because of ‘partisan commitments’.
That the nation’s ‘unconscious’ (thinking in Jungian terms) called forth, invoked, a narcissistic leader of this magnitude — this belligerent, wounded, partially mad character who gets worse and worse like a disease — is ‘symptomatic’ of where the nation has come to.
You recognize of course that in all likelihood it cannot magically get better, right? The Left-Progressive side will likely evoke its own Madman (or God help us all some deranged female freakshow).
The crisis is only in the beginning stages.
