WSYX is the Columbus, Ohio ABC affiliate, and the reaction to that head-exploding tweet was so negative that the station took down the tweet as well as the article it was linked to. That doesn’t change the fact that to even suggest that U.S.schools shouldn’t teach the single most important event in the 21st Century and one of the most transformative events not only in U.S. history but modern world history is signature significance. To even ask the question demonstrates fealty to propaganda over truth, and a conviction that generations must be taught by withholding any information that might provoke non-conforming thoughts and belief.
The U.S. has a major broadcasting network—several, if we’re being honest— that employs people who want to manipulate the public, lying about the past through omission. Every now and then the aspiring totalitarians of the Left slip up and tell us who they really are. This is one of those times.
Yes, the 9-11 attacks should be taught in schools so Americans learn that Islam is not “a religion of peace,” and that unrestricted, unvetted immigration from Muslim nations poses an existential threat to our values, culture and democracy. It also should be taught in the schools because it is history, and those who want to obscure history never have good intentions.

No surprise at all, that’s the way our Channel 6 rolls around here. And, believe it or not, they’re no worse than the NBC or CBS stations.
Our local new is basically unwatchable except for entertainment value or to see how blatantly they are shilling for local, state, and national liberals. There is zero coverage of major stories such as the fraud found in Minnesota, California, here in Ohio, and elsewhere.
The ABC affiliate ran a piece last night comparing the campaign ads of Vivek and Amy Acton. They went into detail to find negative things to say about Vivek but completely glossed over Acton’s actions as the head of the health department when the wuflu hit, nor has there been any mention or showing of the video of Acton appearing drunk at the county fair when she was “attacked by a gunman.”
All of the stations are guilty of DEI hiring, with reporters and the studio “talent” barely able to read their scripts or talk extemporaneously when on air, or ask any reasonably intelligent questions if given the chance.
Forgot to mention, when defending Amy Acton’s campaign ads, ABC6 sited the New York Times as their source of information for their investigation. And everyone knows the NYT is completely unbiased.
One of the reasons of why the MSM publishes those tweets is that Islamism has gotten stronger after 9/11, and is treated with (more respect) (kid gloves) in Western societies. Who would expect that we would ever have a Muslim (Islamist?) mayor in New York? Another reason may be that nothing positive has followed in the wake of 9/11. The Taliban is still in power in Afghanistan. The Middle East is still a chaos. Islamism is growing in the West. Half of the USA would rather support the IRGC in Iran than our own President.

There was a discussion on Twitter about how the Bush Administration bent over backwards to push the “Religion of Peace” narrative. It doesn’t surprise me at all that New Yorkers, especially denizens of New York City would embrace a Muslim mayor. They’d vote for the devil himself if he ran on a platform of socialized medicine and abortion on demand.
So two days before the 25th anniversary of 9/11, let me ask what the legacy is of that day. I will compare it with two other days that live in infamy: the bombing of Pearl Harbor, and the shots fired at Ford Sumter. Five years after Pearl Harbor Imperial Japan and Nazi Germany were defeated, and the USA became the richest and most powerful nation on the earth. Five years after Fort Sumter slavery was eradicated from the USA, only to remain in some Islamic backwaters.
What can we say about the legacy of 9/11 after 25 years? Does it have a legacy, a lasting impact on the world? How would you teach children about 9/11 at school?
I hate to defend ABC, but maybe we should treat the question in their tweet as a good open question, for which the USA as a nation better find good answers. Because if the USA doesn’t 9/11 becomes nothing more than a personal tragedy at the scale of the sinking of the Titanic. Given the rise of Islamism in this nation, with Islamist radicals who hate the West and especially the USA and Israel winning elections for major and be nominated for a Congressional seat, I have my concerns.
I think the controversy shouldn’t be should we teach about 9/11 but what should we teach about it? That’s the bigger question. You and I are in agreement about Islamism but teaching kids about it is a far more dicey proposition.
To the Left, 9/11 is in the past. After all, Daniel Inouye was the first Japanese-American congressman and took office in 1959, a mere 18 years after Pearl Harbor. Of course, the difference is that Inouye didn’t associate with Pearl Harbor apologists nor did he practice the belief system of the Japanese Imperialists.
I don’t see the problem. Teach that it happened. Teach what the U.S’s response was. There are facts to teach. Forget about “analysis.” I don’t trust teachers to apply that without bias.
The problem is that I don’t trust teachers with the facts either. Sure, you can have a teacher say, “hijackers commandeered passenger planes and flew them into buildings, killing thousands of people.” But it can’t end there because students are going to want to know the who, what, where, when and, most importantly, why.
Then what happens? A teacher blames the U.S. for its support of Israel which was one of Osama bin Laden’s talking points.
Absolutely, we should teach the kids that 9/11 happened. We just aren’t going to be able to teach them that without knowing the facts and, to the Left, the facts are debatable.
So we cannot trust public schools with teaching about 9/11, neither about the facts and especially not about the backstory. That is depressing.
Only telling them the basic facts without the backstory reduces 9/11 to a trivia, not more important than the sinking of the Titanic.
I see two problems: a) horrible education at public schools b) a conflicted relationship of Americans with their own history, and place in the world.

Probably the most idiotic result of this local news leftism is the out-of-state ballot initiatives that they push. The worst was a California initiative that Californians got on several state ballots to make the state notify victims of crimes when their assailant is moved, up for release, etc. They did this because California had just passed such a law and they thought all of us ‘yokels’ needed one too. The only problem was that we had put such a system in place years ago. Except that ours lets people easily sign up online and get text notifications of EVERYTHING; upcoming court appearances, transfers, parole hearings, etc. The California proposal would only notify you of releases and by mail. So the news pushed this incessantly and never mentioned that we already had a better system. It passed because of the city people and we had to scrap the electronic one and go back to one based on mail that required ID and notarized paper to sign up.

There never were any statues of Himmler, Goering, Goebbels or even Hitler in Nazi Germany. There certainly weren’t after the war when the Allied powers forced the removal of swastikas and busts – and only busts – of Hitler out of and off of public buildings. But that wasn’t the choice of the Germans. Throughout the occupation of both Germanys, erection of statues to any of the Nazi leaders would have been prohibited. By the time, the occupation ended and new governments were formed, they treaded very lightly since they were now dominated by either the West or the Soviet Union. The next generation of Germans didn’t care enough about the Nazis to memorialize them.

Lee also was an American war hero before the Civil War. He probably deserved a statue or two for his instrumental work in capturing Mexico City during the Mexican-American War.
The attacks on 9/11 were a major historical event in the 21st century and they have had a tangible impact on daily life. We routinely pass through metal detectors at major events and accede to whatever demands TSA makes on our privacy rights at airports, for example.
I also don’t trust the education system, but just as discussion of the Civil War is a springboard to discussion of slavery, the attacks on 9/11 lead to discussions of immigration and assimilation, foreign relations, foreign policy and different governing systems – theocracy, vs monarchy, vs tyranny vs democratic republic, etc.
The real issue is the deplorable left-leaning governance in public schools. If we cannot trust schools to discuss 9/11, we cannot trust them with anything. The system probably needs a complete overhaul.
