Stay Classy, College Football!

“I also do want to say I apologize for the celebration,” said Simmons, who tied a school record with five sacks. “I was definitely in that mode, feeling myself. But, you know, it happens. Charge it to the game.”

Wow. That’s some kind of record for self-excusing rationalizations in an alleged apology. What mode? Your asshole mode? “Feeling myself”—ah, the old unethical and hedonistic “If it feels good, do it” Sixties nonsense, cross-bred with “celebrating my truth.” “It happens”—no jerk, it didn’t “happen,” you did it. You made it “happen.” “Charge it to the game”—what??? Charge it to you! Sure, football makes awful human beings (and demented ones), but you, of all people, are ethically estopped from blaming your antics on “the game.”

Speaking of a player feeling himself, the Coach excused Raleek Brown’s balls-sniffing stunt as the fault of society. “Unfortunately, in our society right now, we live in a ‘look at me’ society,” Sarkisian said. “That’s the world that we live in. So we’ve got to get to – it’s about the team and focus on the team, and not so much ‘look at me.’ So we’ll try to improve upon that, but five sacks was pretty cool today, too!”

Steve Sarkisian is paid $10.8 million dollars to “try” to get his players not to pretend to pee and sniff their groins in front of stadiums full of people and TV audiences, but he made it pretty clear that he doesn’t really care about any of that as long as his team wins. If Texas cared about values, education, anything but money and alumni favor, it would fire Sarkisian. He’s an ethics corrupter.

Is this a great sport or what?

    • They’re black guys.

I’m old enough to remember when there were no celebrations in sports, particularly professional sports.

Speaking of unprofessional celebrations, Wilson Contreras strolled around the bases after hitting his home run and came to a virtual stop before finally crossing the plate. Which was incredibly bush. Max Fried buzzed the next batter’s tower. Fried should have plunked the guy and there should have been a bench clearing brawl. Shameful. That homer was the first run scored by the pathetic Red Sox in almost thirty innings of post season play. What a jerk Contreras is.

      • And speaking of things going to hell, why do the baseball broadcasts feature two commercials for pubic hair trimmers that show people staring at guys who are trimming their pubic hair? Doesn’t MLB want young children watching baseball and then playing baseball? They run commercials to that effect. Manscaping lawn mowers? What are they thinking? Disgusting. Absolutely disgusting.

      • I give him an ethics pass for that. 1) He was trying to stir up the team. At that point, it was 2-1, and a few days ago, he couldn’t swing a bat. 2) It’s the Yankees. The Red Sox doing anything to piss off the Yankees and their fans is fair based on their history. And Yankee Stadium is the only place in the majors where the home team broadcasts a “Nyah, nyah” sound effect after an opposing player strikes out. 3) He missed most of September with a leg issue. He has plausible deniability.

        The Yankees suck.
