Knock me over with a feather. I once subscribed to Slate when it was an innovative commentary e-magazine genuinely striving to be independent and non-partisan. Then it went full woke and Trump Deranged, and managed to get on the EA blacklist. Frankly, I didn’t know it was still being published. But Hanna Stotland an independent educational consultant specializing in crisis management authoring her second Slate piece after seven years, delivered a superb analysis.
UPDATE: You can read the whole paywalled article at the archive link provided in the comments below by James Flood. [Thanks, James.] I was tempted to paste the whole thing into this post, but that would be unethical….
Some notable passages from the publicly available version deserve emphasis and should whet your curiosity:
She’s deadlifting two hundred and fifty pounds?
Totally off the subject, but it strikes me that weight lifting in your socks might be a bit dangerous. Aren’t you more prone to slip in your stocking feet as opposed to tennis shoes? I’m not sure what verb would follow ‘slip’ but when you’re holding a 250 pound weight, it cannot be good.
Having done deadlifts until my lower back broke down, I noticed the same thing. I have to believe those are more than just socks.
If the new things coming out seemingly every day are even close to true, she’s not getting a dime from anybody. Maybe the U, because they’re complete morons, but with enrollments down everywhere, maybe they decide not to pay her, either.
One of the things I read said after one of the sessions she got up and did body builder poses – I thought that was really weird, but makes sense now…
Madness….

According to Rollo Tomassi the sole reason for bringing charges against the Cornell 7 right now is the midterm elections, to get women to the polls and help the Democrats win Congress
Someone uses that as a handle? Cute. You know the reference? “Rollo Tomassi” is the imaginary “guy who gets away with it” in “LA Confidential.”
Rollo is the most influential influencer of the Manosphere, instead of Andrew Tate.
Interesting perspective, and yes, it is a train wreck. The sad thing is multiple lives have been and will be further damaged inextricably by the reckless and hedonistic actions of 8 individuals one night in 2024. And yes, I do mean 8 and not 7. It has been wildly reported the female had no objections to a threesome sexual experience. It is unclear as to how many more than three sexual partners was too many for her and how she communicated that to those assembled. Was it 4, 5, 6,or 7?
By all accounts I have read, many of those caught up in this inexcusable situation were not in the frat house that fateful night. Cornell administrators, the local DA, and various Cornell Campus Security personnel are the obvious victims of the fallout that is sure to come from the self-serving politicians running for re-election this November who have inserted themselves into this tragedy. To quote former Obama WH Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel “You never want a serious crisis to go to waste”.
The family and friends of the “Cornell 8” will also be damaged through no fault of their own. I would suggest, however, that the parents of the Cornell 8 bare some culpability for not raising more intelligent and responsible children.
Rest assured both the progressive and conservative media will relish the circus. Sex sells, you know. A multitude of celebrities will also share their irrelevant opinions for no other reason than to appear relevant. The only winners in this debacle will be the sensitivity consultants, defense attorneys, and self-serving politicians.
Since the lives of the “Cornell 8” are beyond repair, my hope is that the parents of coming-of-age children will use this tragic mess as an example on how not to behave. Tragically, most will likely get caught up in the media sensationalization and choose a side and stoke the embers of discontent.
Let’s not confuse unethical with immoral.
We can have an argument about whether a gang bang is immoral, based on which systems of morals we subscribe to. A libertine will have a different view than a conservative Catholic. I do not think it is unethical to engage in wild sexual experiments as long as everyone consents.
This event, similarly as the Duke Lacrosse case, is ethically significant because of the rape accusations following the withdrawal of consent after the fact as the women in the gang bang faced reputational damage. Similarly as the Duke Lacrosse case, (electoral?) politics got involved.
