And This Is Why The Obama Administration Will Not (And Should Not) Regain America’s Trust

Hmmm..what possibly could account for this?

Hmmm..what possibly could account for this?

Consistent in their cynical view of human nature, their disdain for the intelligence of the American public and their refusal to believe the wisdom of Abraham Lincoln, officials in the Obama administration, we are told, are confident that the President’s poll numbers will rise and he will once again be believed and trusted. I’m sure President Obama believes the same thing. They are very wrong.

From today’s Washington Post:

“The White House systematically delayed enacting a series of rules on the environment, worker safety and health care to prevent them from becoming points of contention before the 2012 election, according to documents and interviews with current and former administration officials. Some agency officials were instructed to hold off submitting proposals to the White House for up to a year to ensure that they would not be issued before voters went to the polls, the current and former officials said. The delays meant that rules were postponed or never issued. The stalled regulations included crucial elements of the Affordable Care Act, what bodies of water deserved federal protection, pollution controls for industrial boilers and limits on dangerous silica exposure in the workplace. The Obama administration has repeatedly said that any delays until after the election were coincidental and that such decisions were made without regard to politics. But seven current and former administration officials told The Washington Post that the motives behind many of the delays were clearly political, as Obama’s top aides focused on avoiding controversy before his reelection.”

Let us begin by acknowledging that this report does not issue from Fox News  and the much-derided “conservative media” that are presumed to see everything Democratic through a jaundiced eye. This is the thoroughly left-leaning Washington Post, to the extent that there is such a thing anymore, a respected news source, and one that has shown signs throughout President’s Obama’s tenure that there are some things even a loyalist won’t abide, even from the First Black President. That said,

1. This is fully consistent with the trend much commented on in the conservative media, of Friday night  document dumps and and holiday eve releases announcing downward corrections of positive economic reports the Administration had trumpeted. This administration hides the ball whenever it can.

2. The revelation is also consistent with reports explaining some of the reasons behind the Affordable Care Act rollout problems, which were in part caused when the Administration did not want to publicize or admit to problems in the law while the Republicans were demanding that it be delayed. The trait at issue: politics first, governing later–if ever or at all.

3. The Post story illustrates another of many instances where deadlines and schedules were manipulated to ensure that voters had as little relevant information about what they were voting for as possible, in essence forcing them to decide who was going to make decisions effecting their lives on false pretenses and inadequate data.

4. The accounts give credibility to critics who believe that the real origins of the 9/11/12 fatal attack on the Benghazi compound, killing the U.S. ambassador to Libya as well as other Americans, was  intentionally and falsely attributed by Susan Rice, Hillary Clinton, the President and others to a YouTube video to avoid embarrassing the President, whose campaign had celebrated his alleged “decimation” of Al Qaeda.

5. The tactic is also consistent with the motivation behind the President’s ongoing deception, exposed this November, allowing voters to believe that his “signature health initiative” would not require them to change health plans or physicians if they did not want to.

6. Assuming that the delayed regulations were developed in good faith, this means that the health and safety of workers and the public were intentionally placed at risk for political gain.

7. All of this mocks the promise, issued by candidate Obama in 2008, that his administration would be the most transparent in history.

There are those partisan, flacks and blind supporters who will always excuse such conduct because “everybody does it.” In fact, this is just not true. The only previous Presidential administration that seemed to be run purely to hold power rather than to use its power in the best interest of the public and the nation was that of Richard Nixon. Even if the rationalization were true, it can not be used to excuse this administration, which was elected on the pledge that it would not embrace tactics of obfuscation and deliberate misrepresentation. In addition, a candidate and a party deliberately withholding and misrepresenting its intentions and policies from the electorate is a frontal attack on the principles and integrity of democracy. The public has a right to know who and what it is voting for. The Obama Administration has now demonstrated beyond any doubt that it does not accept that premise. It does not trust the public’s judgment, and does not respect its informed concerns.

We now know that what we are told, what we are assured, even what we are unequivocally guaranteedperiod—by President Obama, his staff, his appointees and his spokespersons, are often, even usually, not the whole truth, or the truth at all, but merely cynical and methodical poll-based formulations of what the Administration wants us to believe until it can do what it wants to. There is no reason to trust this administration again, about anything. This has been a betrayal, and trust does not recover from betrayal. We know that our welfare, including our birthright to informed self-determination is not the most important thing to our current government—power is.

It is an old tale, and the Founders’ fear. I did not expect it to be reenacted by this President and his government. I expected incompetence, and got that. I didn’t expect this.

  1. 2. The revelation is also consistent with reports explaining some of the reasons behind the Affordable Care Act rollout problems, which were in part caused when the Administration did not want to publicize or admit to problems in the law while the Republicans were demanding that it be delayed. And stupid politics at that.

Carter- nevermind Clinton, Kennedy, or Roosevelt- would have wrangled tons of concessions from Republicans in exchange for delaying implementation, which would allow him more time to fix things and mitigate if not prevent the disaster.

The most egregious part about this is that this incident was used to attack freedom of speech.

  2. This is news why?

People knew this was happening back when the CFR (consolidated federal register, the list of all new regulations) didn’t come out despite repeatedly missing statutory deadlines. If it wasn’t worth getting upset about last year before the election when people were admitting that they were putting off regulations for political reasons, it isn’t worth getting upset about now.

  3. I think a bigger and more easy-to-spot reason not to trust the Jarrett administration is their failure to emphasize the fact that the dollar is rapidly losing its place as the world’s reserve currency. It’s going to get ugly, and likely will happen on Jarrett’s watch, and will get ugly very quickly. Worse, no tax increases will be able to fix that Humpty Dumpty.

  4. If we could prosecute Nixon and some of his associates, just why haven’t impeachment charges been filed against obama. He and his administration’s excesses of betrayal of the American public make Nixon’s look like the act of blowing a spit wad in the classroom.
