…unless, of course, we should have compassion and empathy for unapologetic, self-destructive idiots like Anaya Peterson.
Peterson is a mother of five and—KABOOM!—a law student, but nonetheless thought it would be a good idea to get her eyes tattooed. After all, Australian model Amber Luke tattooed her eyes a vivid blue and only went blind for three weeks! That was good enough for Peterson, whose seven-year-old daughter cautioned her that the procedure was too risky. “What if you go blind?” the kid asked? Oh pshaw, Mom answered; adults know best.
Now it looks as if Mother may go blind after all. “I don’t have 20/20 vision anymore. From a distance, I can’t see features on faces,” Peterson told the media. “If I didn’t have my eyeballs tattooed, I wouldn’t be having this problem. Even today I woke up with more floaters in my eyes. And that is dangerous.”
Why is she so willing to talk about this? Why isn’t she hiding her head under a bag while she petitions to have her seven-year-old appointed as her guardian?
Ol’ Blue Eye says she regrets the decision to tattoo the whites of her eyes. Ya think? “It was traumatizing to go through,” she says about her hospitalization after waking up one morning looking like this:
“I just remember thinking, ‘I’m not doing that shit again, with the eye tattoo. I’m definitely not doing that shit again.” You figured that out, did you? A bit late, but still…
“I’m kind of recovered — on the outside, it’s recovered. It’s just inside. I’m basically on the verge of going blind,” she says now. “If I could go back in time, I would have done one black [eye tattoo] and left it. I would have done one black. Absolutely.”
Here’s the aspiring lawyer before her eye tattoos had the predictable effect on her:
Yes, she’s a body modification (as in “mutilation”) addict. Has anyone pointed out to her that lawyers who “speak with forked tongue,” as Indians used to say in the old Westerns, may not engender trust from clients, judges and juries? Who would hire a lawyer who looks like that, except maybe someone who works in a carnival side-show, like a geek?
I would oppose a single cent of public assistance funds going to Peterson, or any other individual who willfully cripples themselves, and that includes unemployment funds. One is at liberty to do what one likes to their own body, but the rest of us shouldn’t be required to pay for the consequences of massive stupidity. But we are, of course: Peterson lives in Ireland, but if she were here, she’d probably be starting a GoFundMe. After all, she has all those children. Compassion! Pity! Charity! Empathy!
Not from me, baby, no sirree. I’ll support public assistance for Peterson’s children, as long as they are removed from her care, but that’s as far as this ethicist is willing to go.
