Ethics Dunce Brianna Turner of the WNBA has announced that she refuses to wear the league’s special jerseys to celebrate the U.S.’s 250th Anniversary. “Whoever called for the WNBA all-star uniforms to have the USA 250 patch should have thought that through considering no WNBA players would have been free 250 years ago. The majority wouldn’t even have their freedom 100 years ago,” she tweeted.
This kind of intellectually flabby and historically dunder-headed calculation is typical of the sad victims of anti-USA hate, which is inflicted on them through devices and lies like the “1619 Project.” Hers is also the intellectually handicapped mindset that accepts the “reparations” propaganda: she is personally angry at ancient conditions that never affected her directly or personally.
Citizens who live in the United States of America derive many benefits therefrom. There is no professional women’s basketball in England, for example: Turner is a direct beneficiary of what happened 250 years ago this July. Without the second-rate basketball league that pays Brianna six figures, my guess is that her intellect would have her working at a diner or bouncing drunk and disorderly lesbians from gay bars rather than basketballs.
To be fair, there is no reason why Turner’s stupid historical observations on social media should have any more publicity than anyone else’s. Indeed, at least she isn’t a New York Times reporter posing as a historian or a DEI history professor or one of the anti-white racists elected to Congress. They and others like them make the same offensive statements about the nation they are so lucky to live in, but have sufficient credentials, however dubious, that many Americans take them seriously. You know. They are “experts.”
Come to think of it, I don’t know why what Brianna thinks about anything that doesn’t involve throwing a ball through a hoop is newsworthy. Why is Fox News, Newsweek, USA Today and other allegedly serious news sources reporting this? In fact, why am I writing about it? She’s not even a real celebrity outside of Las Vegas, which is where her team plays its inferior brand of basketball that any of the top 100 men’s college teams could trounce them in.

When did people decide to hate their country so much? They should take her salary for the game to help with the profit loss the WNBA constantly operates in.
Practically, the WNBA is a huge loss. Not enough people watch it for it to make any kind of money. They are carried by the NBA. This is the last thing they need. It’s also a great example of how female privilege plays out. The WNBA is only still on TV because some people value women’s sports, even when they are a net drain on the bottom line.
As someone who feels that watching other people play sports is largely pointless unless you have a loved one in the game, I should ask, why would male basketball be any more interesting to watch than female basketball?
So, the reason is because men are naturally more athletic. They are faster, and they do more entertaining moves. Women’s basketball tends to be slower paced. Many of the female players actually probably have better pure technique because they can’t rely on athleticism the way some men do, but it’s less fun for many people.
I personally believe in women’s sports, but these radical leftists female stars have no business protesting about anything when they can’t even bring in enough revenue to even break even. Their existence is solely out of compassion or value for women’s sports in general.
Thanks for the thoughtful answer! That makes sense, that spectators would be looking for a secondhand adrenaline rush that watching pure skill doesn’t necessarily offer.
I think it might help if athletes and celebrities would put some effort into exploring and leading better alternatives for the things they’re trying to oppose. Constructive role models who talk about what they want to happen and help build it are better for society than ones who just condemn things. I suspect many people don’t understand what it actually means to “be the change you want to see in the world.”

Thinking of alternatives isn’t as fun as virtue signaling though. You don’t really have to articulate anything but broad general principles and then do some kind of meaningless protest.
Maybe a competent staff member versed in history, civics, philosophy, or some other relevant humanity subject should have explained to Turner that the point of the 250th anniversary is not to celebrate the creation of a perfect country, but the creation of the first country whose governing institutions enabled it to make enough social progress in 250 years that she can share the same basic freedoms and rights as anyone else. There are still opportunities for improvement, of course, but the way the country was designed, the only real barrier to improvement is people letting their political parties think for them, as Turner seems to be doing.

Social media is a game changer. It’s given these celebrities a platform on which to spread their ignorance further to people who give their opinions disproportionate weight. She is a useful idiot to race hucksters and anti-America pundits. She is reported on because her ill-conceived thoughts influence others, rightly or wrongly, and it’s important to know where our citizens are getting their understanding of America’s history and government (since they are obviously not being educated in schools).

Boy, is that ever pie in the sky. That’s a pretty big if, right there. Who watches women’s basketball? The entire enterprise seems to be a virtue signaling exercise by the NBA and its owners and the networks (Disney). I suspect the owners thought at some point long ago that the league would bring in some income from their stadiums in the off season. I think women’s professional sports is a European thing that someone in the U.S. thought could make some money over here.
