Afternoon Ethics Warm-Up, 7/5/2019: Assholes, An Idiot, Morons, And Hating America

Good afternoon!

Did you burn your flag yesterday? Lots of people did, and the news media was full of enabling pieces proclaiming the act to be noble free speech. It certainly isn’t noble, but it is free speech, , just like Bill Maher calling Republican women “cunts.” Free speech,  abuse of the right, and signature significance for assholes.

1. Yes, Joe Biden is really an idiot. Who will point that out in the mainstream media? This quote is the kind of thing that President Trump gets routinely mocked for..and Joe?

BIDEN: “Look at what’s happening with Putin. While Putin is trying to undo our elections, he is undoing elections in Europe. Look at what’s happening in Hungary, look what’s happening in Poland, look what’s happening. You think that would happen on my watch or Barack’s watch? You can’t answer that, but I promise it wouldn’t have, and it didn’t.”

Psst! JOE! The Russian interference with the 2016 election DID happen on Barack’s watch, and yours. Or is this just another Big Lie? I have never in my life seen so many Orwellian assertions of the exact opposite of reality put forth by a political party on the assumption that the news media won’t flag it for what it is, and the certainty that the public will swallow it whole.

2. Please let me know which anti-President Trump media types admit that they were 100% wrong about the President planning on giving a partisan campaign speech yesterday. Because he didn’t. At least the Washington Post published conservative columnist Mark Thiessen’ s accurate delivery of the bad news (for the “resistance”) that the Trump Deranged had made fools of themselves, and that the Chief Troll in the White House had managed to get Democrats and progressives to align themselves against the Fourth of July.

Morons.

Thiessen writes in part…

Of all the stupid freak-outs we have experienced since Trump was elected, the hyperventilation over his Fourth of July address and celebration on the Mall may be the stupidest.

His critics called his decision to insert himself into the Independence Day celebrations virtually unprecedented. Sorry, but Trump is not the first U.S. president to give a major speech on the Fourth of July. Harry S. Truman once delivered an Independence Day address in front of the Washington monument. Presidents Woodrow Wilson, John F. Kennedy, Gerald Ford, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush all gave Fourth of July addresses from Independence Hall in Philadelphia. And, in 1986, Ronald Reagan delivered a Fourth of July address from the deck of an aircraft carrier, the USS John F. Kennedy, strategically placed in front of the Statue of Liberty.

Trump’s address took this tradition to new heights on Thursday. Democrats complained before the speech that Trump was politicizing the Fourth of July. He did nothing of the sort. In a speech reminiscent of his outstanding remarks last month at Normandy, Trump delivered a soaring presidential address — a celebration of the greatness of our country. “As we gather this evening, in the joy of freedom, we remember that we all share a truly extraordinary heritage,” Trump said. “Together, we are part of one of the greatest stories ever told — the story of America.”

3. But detesting the U.S. and persuading the public to hate their own country is now clearly part of a reconstructive strategy within the mainstream Left (though they deny it).

Unrestricted immigration and open borders is guaranteed to weaken the culture and core American values. Massive structural changes will be justified because the nation and the  Constitutional system has failed, despite all evidence to the contrary. [ Note: “Everything is terrible” is one of the Big Lies that I will soon add to the directory.”] How dare President Trump use  Independence Day—the holiday designed to celebrate the nation’s birth– to resist the anti-American narrative?

To wit:

—Protesters burned flags yesterday-–the Fourth of July—in front of the White House. Nice.

—Here’s the New York Times in a tweet: “The myth of America as the greatest nation on earth is at best outdated and at worst, wildly inaccurate. If you look at data, the U.S. is really just O.K.”

—Salon: “Fourth of July’s ugly truth exposed: The Declaration of Independence is sexist, racist, prejudiced.”

—Here’s a Gallup poll showing that the percentage of Americans who are “extremely” proud of their nation is at an all-time low;

….anchored by liberals, who  can’t be extremely proud of any nation that is full of deplorables who wouldn’t elect Hillary Clinton.

—Rod Dreher writes at the American Conservative, considering Charlottesville’s rejection of Thomas Jefferson this week along with Nike’s decision that the 1776 flag is unfit for public use:

Little things like this are part of a developing narrative, one that emerges from the actions of people like campus activists, media and academic figures, city councils, and Woke Capitalists in corporate boardrooms. The narrative is this: the American nation is illegitimate, the American nation is wicked at its roots, America is loathsome. If we are going to dissolve this old, bad America, and replace it with something better, then we are going to need to start by teaching her people to hate her through and through. Meanwhile, let’s open the borders to let in a better class of future American.

Attacking figures like Jefferson, and symbols like the Colonial-era flag — again, not the Confederate flag, but a Colonial-era flag — make it clear that what’s under assault now by the Social Justice Warriors — not fringe campus hotheads, but institutionalists like senior corporate executives and city council members — is the symbolic core of America herself. Not Southern secessionists who fought to preserve slavery, but the Founders and the Founding. These symbols are as close as the secular realm gets to sacred. Elementary psychology says that you do not profane what is sacred to a tribe, unless you want war.

Politics today are primarily identity politics. That’s just a fact. You can’t be indifferent to the power of symbolism and identity. There is not a Central Committee for Left-Liberalism in America that decided the Colonial-era American flag was to be spited. But it happened this week, in accordance with the wishes of a crusading left-wing celebrity. And not a single leading politician of the Democratic Party spoke up against it. Maybe they and their handlers didn’t think it was worth mentioning. Boy, are they wrong. I know conservatives who went out this week and bought version of that “Betsy Ross flag” to fly today, to affirm pride in the Founding in the face of Woke Corporate assault (and by the way, conservatives: if you aren’t learning to despise Big Business, it’s time to start paying attention). In this way, the Left is handing over to Donald Trump what ought to be a symbol of American unity and pride in country.

It’s crazy to think about, but here we are: America is led now by an irritable, unstable, incompetent, corrupt narcissist, a man of many deep faults — but at least he doesn’t hate his country, its history, its ancestral religion and its traditions, and at least he doesn’t want to open the borders to allow a wave of foreigners to remake it.

This is how the Left is going to fire up those who already support Trump, and drive many who can’t stand him to vote for him anyway, solely to protect the country from the party and the people who despise what she is.

Dreher is absolutely, and frighteningly, correct.

  1. I would say that this is the point where we should be able to point to our left-leaning friends that the America Haters have moved on from the Confederacy to Jefferson and Madison and will soon target Washington himself.

    Just as we warned them.

  2. As they virtue signaled…I mean…announced in advance, the Lefty net/cable outlets metered their coverage.

Rather ironic was NBC’s 07/05/2019 Today Show spending ~ 7 minutes on something they ostensibly DIDN’T consider disgusting: Competitive Eating.

It’s likely my failing, but their are few repulsive activities that I hold in lower regard.

    • Am I correct in assuming the contestants go behind the stage and regurgitate the contents of their stomach immediately upon the completion of the “contest?”

And here I thought children were starving in the rest of Brooklyn?

      • Jeepers OB, right when I didn’t think it could possibly get any MORE revolting.

Anywo, that reminds me of a pal that visited Africa a few years back and had a cab driver tell him how much he wanted to come to the country Lefty hates so much.

After some back-n-forth, the cabby confessed he wanted to emigrate because he believed it simply HAD to be Heaven on Earth.

Why? Because even our poor people are fat.

  3. 3. Re unrestricted migration: Ran across something called the Cloward-Piven strategy the other day in a Rush Limbaugh monologue. Had never heard of it. It makes some sense of the open borders movement. It’s intended not only to dilute but overwhelm national institutions and norms.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloward%E2%80%93Piven_strategy

Here’s piece by a couple of Commies who are all in on the strategy:

    Nice.

  4. This is how the Left is going to fire up those who already support Trump, and drive many who can’t stand him to vote for him anyway, solely to protect the country from the party and the people who despise what she is.

Reminds me of the little speech given by Iceman to Maverick in ‘Top Gun:’ You may not like those flying with you, and they may not like you… but whose side are you on?’

Leftists are NOT on America’s side, and thus are enemies of the People by definition.

  5. 1. Biden is lying. Period. They let the Russians do what they did. At this point, I wonder if collusion was an effort to cover up incompetence – both on their part in government and on Hillary’s part as a campaigner.

    2. They won’t. They never will.

    3. This is starting to become the elephant in the room. The Left in this country has decided that they want to totally remake our system of government. The First and Second Amendments are completely on the table for significant truncation – at least for those not “progressive.” Due process won’t exist for the wrong people.

And the one person standing between that future and America is Donald Trump. Makes my 2020 choice easy – just as Hillary made my 2016 choice easy,

    • Re: No. 1:

I can’t help thinking the Obama Administration did not take action against Russian”meddling” to provide a nice basis to delegitimize Trump and the 2016 election results, to provide fodder for Democrats in 2018 and again 2020.

      jvb

    • IM, exactly why I voted and will vote for Trump despite my personal revulsion.

To vote any other way is to vote for the practical end of the Constitution and the likely ruination of anyone to the right of AOC.

  6. Here’s what can happen when someone appears to be obsessed with unconditional hate for President Trump.

Here is a quote from Feeble Minded, Dim Witted, Imbecilic–Yes This Is About Donald Trump On The 4th Of July,

“no brain mass in the occupant of the White House in 2019.”

Here is a quote from Summing Up Trump’s July 4th Debacle,

“Following the embarrassing spectacle on the Mall, with twisted and distorted history being spewed from the podium, I was left jarred once again about my country.”

“Trump was inaugurated and the essential ingredients of a republic have, one by one, been removed from the national mix.”

Here is a quote from July 4th Or “Birth Of A Nation”? Leni Riefenstahl Type Film To Follow? from before the 4th of July’s festivities,

“Only those too diseased in spirit and soul will find joy in Trump’s plans.”

After reading the bloggers two posts about the the events and President Trump’s speech at the “Salute to America” I have to ask myself it he watched ANY of the event or ALL of the the President’s speech himself?

To this day the blogger dekerivers (linked above), whose writings show that he’s likely a hate induced emotional snowflake, cannot type President Trump in one of his blogs. This self-proclaimed Liberal Democrat has succumbed to all the anti-Trump propaganda and put his Liberal Democrat roots in permanent storage in favor of hate.

How do people get so damned stupid that they cannot think critically anymore.

  7. 1. This is exactly in kind with the other Big Lie that Obama’s was the most “scandal-free” administration ever.

Joe Biden is exactly like the rest of the Democrat party — the truth is only useful if it advances their cause, and there is no cost, or challenge, for lying through your teeth.

I guess they’ll blame Trump for that, too. After all, if Trump acts the idiot, apparently it authorizes the Democrats and their media apologists to follow suit.

    2. Umm, Jack, even CNN noted Trump’s moderation in one of the most gobsmackingly fair pieces I’ve seen from them in… well, maybe ever. Consider:

His remarks did not turn into the hyper-partisan campaign-style rally that some of his critics had feared would besmirch the normally nonpartisan atmosphere of the nation’s Independence Day commemorations.

Coming from CNN, that’s the equivalent a Sara Huckabee Sanders press release.

Now, admittedly the usual suspects, the LA Times, the NY Times, and the Boston Globe were predictable in their condemnation and assurances that he didn’t mean any of it and it was all a ruse. But even the WaPo had to turn away from accusations of rank partisanship:

But Trump largely steered clear of partisanship and instead spoke of the history of America’s founding while reveling in the displays of military might from the U.S. armed forces.

Now, granted, prior to the event virtually all of them were hyperventilating. But post-event, at least some of them had to admit it wasn’t what they expected.

    Progress? I wish.

    3. Yes, I agree — Dreher’s argument is very persuasive. But this…

    … demands further examination.

Consider that the Democrats are asking Americans to elect a politician that does not conform to any of the qualities listed after “at least…” above.

So we are being asked to elect a Democrat that will not protect the country from unarmed invasion, will work to elevate favored racial, sexual and religious minorities over the majority, reject American tradition and traditional religious faith, and convince our youth that the idea of America as founded is not only no longer worth fighting for, but should be replaced by something more “modern,” including a rejection of the idea of individual rights.

    Frightening, indeed.

  8. #1. Joe Biden and I are of one mind here; neither of us knows what the hell Joe Biden is talking about.
I’m operating in a vacuum, i.e., Biden’s mind, but I’ll try. Is he talking about the Hungarian Parliament putting Academy of Sciences institutes under government control? Maybe the gay pride marches in Poland — no, scratch that, those would have been celebrated. The Polish government harassing judges and prosecutors? Russia attempting to discredit democratic elections in Europe?
Well, we know the Obama-Biden team allowed Russian attempts to discredit the U.S. election in 2016 and even fueled the discrediting of the results. So, maybe they would have done nothing about Russia. For those other situations, maybe they just wouldn’t have happened. Or, maybe they would have given those countries the Libya treatment, destroyed the existing government, killed the leader, and ignored the aftermath. That would have shown Orbán, Morawiecki, and a few others a thing or two.
But, I’m just guessing, and I’m waiting for the news media to step up in their best PR mode and tell us what Biden meant.
