Swalwell’s fall from grace is all about the 2026 California gubernatorial election and how the corrupt Democrats in that most infected of all states (I know it’s a close call) installed what is called a “jungle primary” in which all candidates in all political parties are tossed into a single primary election, and the two candidates who emerge with the highest percentage of the primary vote advance to the general election. They did this to rig the system and ensure that it would be possible, even likely, that no Republican would be on the ballot for Governor at all.
Remember, this is the party that ran in 2024 on “saving democracy” and that currently opposes voter ID.
In a wonderful example of being hoisted by one’s own petard, they ended up with eight Democrat candidates and two GOP candidates in the primary, with a real possibility that two Republican candidates might emerge as the two top primary winners, guaranteeing that a Republican will be elected Governor in November. Oh, can’t have that…so the only way to make sure the GOP has no chance now is to eliminate the support that had split the votes for one of the two leading Democrat candidates, and thus ensure that support would consolidate behind the remaining poll-leading Democrat, thereby guaranteeing that at least one Democrat is on the ballot in November.
Brilliant!
What have the Democrats done any time they want to slime someone into political and public purgatory for their own benefit? Why, recruit some cooperative partisan operative with lady parts to come forward at just the right moment with a sexual misconduct accusation from the distant past! They did this to Clarence Thomas. They used this device on Donald Trump. Not only did they use the tactic on Brett Kavanaugh, but Eric Swalwell was one of the most vocal voices in the anti-Kavanaugh mob.
Of course, it is extremely likely that Swalwell is also guilty of repeat sexual misconduct, because Swalwell is a) an unethical idiot and b) can’t be trusted. I admit to not devoting enough space on Ethics Alarms chronicling this, though I did a quick summary in a 2022 post after he tweeted that it was ridiculous to let parents decide how their kinds should be educated over the rule of “experts”—you know, the teachers that pimp for critical race theory, socialism, “stolen lands” gibberish and changing their gender identities:
This really stupid tweet is typical of Swalwell [but] isn’t even his worst. In 2018, the same year he had the gall to announce he was running for President, Swalwell tweeted that any effort by gun owners to oppose gun confiscation by the federal government would be met with nuclear bombs. In another tweet, he wrote sarcastically, “It’s not like separation of church & state is in the Bill of Rights or anything…” This year, he tweeted, “The Republicans won’t stop with banning abortion. They want to ban interracial marriage.” When I wrote last week about how there were so many unethical people running for office in 2022 that I couldn’t possibly narrow the list of the most unethical down to a mere dozen as I have in the past, I forgot to mention Swalwell. This the only member of Congress who somehow managed to have a sexual affair with a Chinese spy (in 2015, before he was elected to the House). Nonetheless, he was re-elected in his California district by a landslide. What Swalwell misses in all aspects of life and logic cannot be catalogued without devoting volumes to the task.”
Swalwell is probably not innocent, but until now it has been in his despicable party’s interest to let dumb, woke voters inflict him on the nation anyway. Now it isn’t, so Democrats are siccing all of their henchmen, henchwomen and henchhacks on him at once; even the Manhattan D.A.’s office.
I would say it is obvious, but that’s too embarrassing, since I missed it.
Long-time readers here will recall that I went through almost the whole 2016 Presidential campaign writing that no matter how unethical and corrupt Hillary Clinton was, I would swallow my bile and vote for her rather than a man I had concluded was unfit to serve in all respects, especially ethically. Then, at literally the last moment, as the evidence mounted showing how the party had rigged the primaries, cheated in televised “townhalls” and worse, I concluded that the choice was really between one untrustworthy man and an entire untrustworthy, indeed undemocratic political organization. I changed course and voted for a write-in candidate.
Since then, Trump has surprised me and risen in my estimation while the Democratic Party has revealed itself to be more and more repugnant and dangerous. As much as Eric Swalwell should never be permitted within miles of a job requiring the public trust, his vile character has nothing to do with why his party has turned on him.
The Democratic Party’s vile character is the explanation.
This thread by Michael Tracey captures my own thoughts about this accusation, like so many in the past few years: https://x.com/mtracey/status/2042948847962349939
Before we are defending Eric Swalwell a couple of thoughts:
The accusations against Eric Swalwell there may be comparable to both. The Democrats may be willing to throw him under the bus for naked electoral reasons. The Kavanaugh hearings convinced me that the Democrat Party has zero ethics when it is about defending their power and influence. However that does not mean that Eric Swalwell is innocent of what he is accused of. The Democrat Party has a history in protecting politicians and influential donors whenever this is political useful, none more than Bill Clinton during his impeachment trial.
The only thing that Eric Swalwell needs for his defense is the truth. If he is innocent, then he does all men who have ever been falsely accused for sexual wrongdoing a service by fighting the accusations; I see this as a moral obligation on his part.
President Trump should not have made an endorsement for one of the two Republican candidates, Steve Hilton, until after the jungle primary. It would have been a blast to have two Republican candidates take the top spot and run against each other for Governor.
Did Trump ever endorse anyone in the Texas Senate race, as he promised to do?
I was hoping he would bite the bullet and endorse Cornyn. The last thing we want is to run a candidate who can lose to a Democrat in Texas. The sun might stop in its orbit.
Was Ann Richards the last Democrat elected statewide in Texas? I remember being really tickled when Bush beat her for governor. Later, now that I live in North Carolina, I could tell people that I had the distinction of having voted for Bush four times. A badge of honor in my opinion.
The Democratic Party has tried to use sexual misconduct as a tool of political power for so long I don’t even really know what to believe anymore. Did Swalwell cheat on his wife and do a bunch of other weird stuff with the consent of these women and now they want to bring him down because they hate him and want revenge
Or, if this is true, the Democratic party has known about it for a long time and preferred to keep him on a leash because he does serve political purposes, but when he goes too far off, then he pays?
There is so much bad faith everywhere that it seems impossible to figure out the truth. He’s a weird dude who shouldn’t have power anywhere, but I’m not certain about anything else.
I did wonder who in the democrat party he angered.
Since the Clinton years, no deviant behavior has been off limits for the Democrats, so long as they’re useful.
From Bill himself, to the appropriately named Anthony Weiner, there was the California dem rep who was involved in threesomes (it was a feature when she was running for election), the weird gay guy in San Fran, etc.
They have no standards whatsoever, until they think they can get somebody that fits what they want better, or somebody crossed the line and didn’t support a pet group.
I would think Swalwell has great recognition in California, but not sure how he was polling.
He either did something so egregious even they can’t countenance it, or he’s on the outside of one of the favored groups they want to elevate.
I tend to think the latter.
Heh! I’m actually enjoying this, BB; that make me a bad person?
PWS
No worse than the rest of us who can’t help but take a peek at the carnage of the train wreck as we pass by. ; )
“Swalwell’s fall from grace . . .” That is the funniest thing I have read in a very long time. Swalwell and grace mentioned in the same breath – the jokes write themselves!
Swalwell’s fall was because his candidacy threatened a loss for the Democrats in California. Could you imagine a debate between Swalwell and Steven Hilton? Hilton would mop the floor with him.

Swalwell might resign from Congress:

Eric Swalwell throws the towel and resigns from Congress.
“I am deeply sorry to my family, staff, and constituents for mistakes in judgment I’ve made in my past,” Swalwell wrote. “I will fight the serious false allegation made against me. However, I must take responsibility and ownership for the mistakes I did make.“
