After his well-deserved (but still tardy) dismissal, Pelley went whining to the New York Times. In his interview, Pelley alleged that Bilton’s letter “betrays a complete misunderstanding of what we work for and what we live for at ’60 Minutes.”‘ He also accused his new bosses of pressuring him to put biased opinions into his stories. That’s pretty funny! Pelley specifically and “60 Minutes” in general are so screamingly soaked with “advocacy journalism” that bias leaks from every pore.
Pelley then went on to claim Weiss was “cold and callous” because she would not explain the reason for recent firings of “60 Minutes” correspondents. I know the reason: she decided that the program would be better with different people in the jobs. I also know the reason why Weiss wouldn’t explain her decisions to Pelley: it’s none of his damn business.
Scott Pelley’s meltdown commenced because the show he and others used to spin news and opinion to accomplish a clear partisan mission was finally told that they were going to have to end the partisan bias or get out. Like most journalists, he is under the delusion that he is qualified to dictate policies and government philosophy, when his proper realm is reporting facts, objectively and fairly. There is nothing more contrary to factual reporting than selectively editing the words of a Presidential candidate to enhance her appeal to voters. That’s what “60 Minutes” did in 2024. That’s the kind of “journalism” that Pelley wants to be part of and have continue: partisan election manipulation.
This is the psychology of the Left today. Its members are furious that their control over the public and the levers of power are slipping away, and their response is tantrums, threats, cheating, lies and violence. The usual suspects—Rachel Maddow, Jimmy Kimmel, et al.—are indignant that Pelley was sacked after an attack on his CBS superiors the likes of which would get anyone fired in any organization in the nation. These people, like Pelley, Don Lemon, and Jim Acosta really believe that they know best and that their efforts to turn public opinion toward the beliefs they favor is respectable journalism. They are the menace to democracy.
Well, that’s one more down, but there are a lot left to deal with.
